  1. It’s also pretty commonly released and of course folks are gonna want to know. We may never find out but trying to slam that door shut like this is overkill.

  2. I’m curious too. “None of our business?” that can be said about a lot of the “news” in this market.

  3. It does not make sense to separate msnbc, cnbc, & USA from NBC. The other channels, I can understand getting rid of them.

  4. So they’re keeping Bravo, which they see as important programming aspect of peacock, but will dump everything else. I see this being extremely complicated from an operations perspective. MSNBC, CNBC, and NBC News are all tightly interconnected when it comes to programming and news gathering. USA Network is tightly connected with NBC Sports for sports programming. Then there’s the olympics, where NBC uses its cable channels (USA, E!, CNBC, and golf channel) to air coverage. If you separate NBC Sports from USA and NBC News from CNBC and MSNBC you’re severely impacting both the “strong” NBC operation and the “weak” cable operation

  6. I think TEGNA is doing this as part of a prospective buyout or merger. Why do I believe this? Two reasons: Meredith Corporation did the exact same thing in 2020. It eliminated creative services departments at its TV stations in favor of two marketing hubs. At that time, Meredith executives were eagerly planning to get out of the TV business, and they hoped cost cutting would appeal to a prospective buyer. Gray Television (now Gray Media) answered the call a year later. TEGNA wants out of the business while the getting is somewhat good. Under previous CEO Dave Lougee, TEGNA tried to merge with Standard General, but the FCC effectively blocked the merger. TEGNA management knows that the incoming Trump administration will likely deregulate broadcasting in whole or part, so they’re hoping 2025 is the year they can cash out and get their golden parachutes.

  7. It's always interesting when these "rebrands" happen and just like this example they tout how they will bring you stories that "impact you and your family every day". So... what were you exactly doing before then? Aside from this new logo, how does this brand change what's in your rundown? I think we know the answer to that though...

  8. The moderators will complain that we're turning this into the MSNBC thread so all in all... Yes one party maybe more of the aggressor in our country's current issues, but all sides have to be subject to vigorous fact-checking and questioning. Yes channels like MSNBC should have room for opposing voices if they are not seeking a bickering match or spreading conspiracies/lies. (Understandably, that last part is going to be extremely difficult to accomplish with the incoming administration).

  9. Based on the previous posts, it seems like the changes will happen in Spring 2025 ahead of their move to the new studios in Hudson Square.

  10. Why doesn't MSNBC just focus on reporting on the actual news of the day, with indepth coverage of breaking news during evening hours, instead of just focusing on politics? The channel can put political opinionated programs, but I feel like they put way too much on the air. I try not to watch the news channels because they're too focused on these types of programs, but when I watch, I turn to msnbc, mainly because I watch NBC for regular news. The main issue with NBC and the other networks are that they don't provide additional reporting & coverage of important events of the day. It's only half an hour in the evening for the major news headlines of the entire country and maybe additional coverage in the morning. That' is why I hope msnbc & cnn would be an an outlet to provide that coverage. Fox News probably won't because what they're doing is not news, just viewpoints from certain personalities.

  11. I couldn't disagree with you more. MSNBC is absolutely the Fox News of the Democratic Party. The amount of stories they run about Trump and Republicans being the end of society is insane. I had two different family members who were addicted to MSNBC and both separately turned it off because they couldn't deal with it. Whatever goes on at MSNBC is not journalism.

  16. I would argue the brand has been successful for 34 years which is why they decided not to use CBS News Los Angeles on channel 9 where a bulk of the newscasts are aired. Even when the two stations became a duopoly, it was KCAL’s management that ran the combined operation.

  17. Oh, I'm sure they did tell him the reason truly (likely that he refused to help any of the younger talent out of jealousy and anger that his low-effort anchoring was being replaced with actual personality), but he dismissed it out of hand in multiple evals and then when they pull the trigger he just dismissed it and then caught the Larry Conners Express to refuse to take any blame for his own demise. Putting all of this in writing in a legal filing just amplified it.

  18. By 2009, Rob Johnson was anchoring evenings solo, and ratings were rising. That fall, Bill was brought in to shoot some promos and feature some of his cold case investigations. At some point, Walter returned to do his commentaries. In November '09, Rob was off, and the station heavily promoted a one night only reunion of the legends on the 10pm news. It was well-received, and they were installed as 6pm co-anchors by September of 2010. Once their contracts ran out in (I think) February '13, they were "retired." Given a full farewell, but it wasn't really their choice.

  19. KIMA Action News at 11 on 12/18/2014. With anchor Terry Chick, who would be let go within a few months or so. Bare-bones as can be...I was so glad when this 'set' was sent packing. Terry pre-recorded a 11PM segment from Tri-CIties for the Yakima market. Scott Stovall still does the same thing today.

  21. Chuck Scarborough & Sue Simmons anchoring News Channel 4's Live at 5 on 9/11. It's always interesting to see how much or how little of network coverage aired in NYC. WSVN 9/11/01. The station alternates between local coverage and fox news channel coverage. You seldom see them use any Fox News stuff now. https://youtu.be/0dH9Y7346Po?si=Fga84QO_bA8ky73s
