  1. All stations are/were wall to wall. It's pretty bad out here right now. I'm in the Inland Empire area of SoCal and the winds haven't been this bad in years. I was in Riverside this afternoon when the Palisades fire broke out. Turned my iHeart app on KTLA who started breaking coverage at that time. Got home (I usually WFH) around 1pm and all stations were in rolling coverage. Thus far, all stations are definitely serving the public. Coverage has been top notch. Grades, ratings don't matter when lives are in danger, but KTLA and KNBC have been top notch.

  2. I wouldn't want an affiliate/local station to have to spend any time/resources doing packages for the network (particularly breaking news). Their primary focus should be on serving their local communities first. In this case, it made perfect sense to go with WDSU until they could get a network crew down to New Orleans. Plus, it very important that networks send anchors and/or correspondents around the country/world to develop connections (at the local level) to better serve their audience. While they can't truly compete with a local station, getting to know people, etc.. on the ground is invaluable.

  4. All stations are pretty much live and you can expect the first network prime time back after the holidays is not happening for the O&O's. This is where you see everyone on high alert. (Nine-box image from Geo on Discord) ETA - KABC deferred to WNT at 6:30, came back at 7, with the game shows moving to Localish. Fox 11 saying 'all night' with their coverage. 8pm, nobody went to network and KTLA is now simulcasting on NewsNation. FNC and CNN have been in and out, MSNBC more out than not.

  5. It doesn't help the head of the MTA doesn't seem to live in reality. But that goes beyond discussion on this board and its primary focus.

  6. Irrespective of one’s own opinions on congestion pricing, I’m surprised at the lack of MTA perspective in most reporting. Most reporting I’ve caught over the last few weeks focuses entirely on the citizen’s angst or support about the tolls and does little to share why the MTA is implementing them.

  7. Robert Johnson is joining NBC10 from North Carolina as their new weekday meteorologist. I wonder if anyone is leaving?

  8. This goes pretty far back in Kansas City history, but Torey Southwick died recently at age 94. He did kids' shows with a puppet named Old Gus. https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/kansascity/name/torey-southwick-obituary?id=57176047

  9. KNTV was probably the longest stop in Terry McSweeney's long and legendary career. He retired last night after a twelve-year run there and more than four decades in journalism, with stops at KTXL, WPBF, KSAZ, WTEN, and even KGO along the way before rejoining KNTV for the second time. He was also there from 1987 to 1995. https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/nbc-bay-area-longtime-anchor-terry-mcsweeney-retires/3752027/

  10. WAGA's Alex Whittler announced on IG that she was promoted to host of Good Day ATL replacing Sharon Lawson who left last year "for her own well being". Im never up that early so not sure if GD ATL has a separate team for 4:30-7AM. But quite the load as she will also continue anchoring the hour long noon newscast. Originally she anchored just the noon.

  11. It looks like Lindsey Mastis has left WJLA-TV Washington, D.C., and seems to be getting out of the TV news business to enter the tech and AI industries. https://www.facebook.com/LindseyMastisJournalist/posts/pfbid02LoBGcc7ZmASbdHFhw1pbnQLcas96uvuLxUq4WQVaXa99x7a91C7nSEmuqi4zgxaol

  12. One of the best meteorologists in the history of Capital Region television is hanging it up and retiring on June 30th. However, Pet Connection will still be around. https://www.news10.com/top-stories/steve-caporizzo-i-know-it-is-time/

  13. They'd be more likely to go to KSBI since that would not hit any subchannel rules. And in most markets where Inyo or Scripps aren't sistered up, the Ion station is a possibility for an emergency affiliation, but Nexstar playing chicken wtih NBC is going to hurt them more than it does the network, which can simply shift viewers to Peacock or at worse, junk one of their SpinCo networks like SyFy, Universal Kids or Oxygen market by market to carry their shows on a one-day delay if somehow Innovate/HC2 refuse to carry them (I would hope it wouldn't get that desperate).

  14. I"m surprised CBS didn't try and do this 20 years ago, when they could have seen the writing on the wall for Guiding Light and As The World Turns. Passions was still on the air as the newest of the daytime serials and would last until right before CBS pulled the plug on the other shows. Sort of ironic that the filler show (The Talk) is being replaced by a soap opera.

  15. It sounds like Chuck exited in a pay dispute. Not necessarily any bad blood, but just couldn't meet in the middle. Meanwhile, devastating news for Roz Varon, as her daughter died last week after a brief, undisclosed illness. Sara basically grew up on the morning show, and had gotten married last year. By my count, I don't think she was even 30. In the 9 months since Roz's retirement, she's gotten divorced, Sara and her husband moved across the country, and now this. Just terrible. She says the station will mention it later in the week.
