  1. DFW is on a roll in terms of having live free OTA sports because now Nexstar will carry 15 Rangers games this upcoming season. It will be on KDAF plus other stations throughout the state and the South. https://tvnewscheck.com/programming/article/nexstar-to-offer-15-texas-rangers-games/

  2. On the surface level, I understand Nexstar's reasoning for the streaming delay: forcing people to watch the news live on TV. But that only works if every station group does it. If I can't livestream my local Nexstar affiliate what stops me from turning to my local Tegna or Gray station stream? Then again...if no TV group streamed wouldn't audiences just turn to digital video outlets? My own food for thought.

  4. Thought I'd keep this thread alive by asking a question. A friend of my family that watched a TV station that used the theme and promo in question is wondering which composer came up with it in the 1980's? HINT: It was a nod to a longtime slogan famously used by American Express. The two station IDs attached will explain. WNOL Station ID 1986.mp4 WPMT (Independent, Now Fox) Station ID 1985.mp4

  6. Looks like Hearst partnered with Vivid Zero on the new diagrid look. Their 2025 studio reel contains brief clip of what appears to be WCVB's version of the open at the 0:32 second mark. https://www.facebook.com/100057501037117/videos/1278638849916517/

  7. Someone should give them some advice… The graphics for the headlines and the show title above it look like something a high school student who grew up in Fargo, North Dakota watching news on the cheap would make. WDIV doesn’t have these yet to my knowledge (haven’t looked lately) but it would fit right in with the rest of their ailing product. The buyouts last year were most unkind to them quality wise.

  8. I don't know of a single person that actually called KOLR10 "OzarksFirst" outright as its name, outside the context of the website. KRBK and KOZL are essentially complementary to KOLR10 (the virtual duopoly of Nexstar owning them with Mission owning KOLR notwithstanding). OzarksFirst.com is a well-established domain name. But to just supplant the legacy brand of KOLR10 News? I'm not sure I quite understand that logic. I guess time will tell if the name holds as the actual on-air brand. Overture is always a personal favorite but it was probably time for a change. I kinda wish SAM had created new PM cuts for Overture back when they did new cuts for AM shows. Guardian is a good choice music-wise. That is probably the best thing I can say about this change. Graphics isn't bad but I think the CBS package is aesthetically far superior to the ABC one.

  9. I will say that the animations are a lot smoother than when they first launched, what 7-ish years ago?

  10. In addition to stations already mentioned, WAVY, WKRN, KXAN, WXIN, WGHP, KELOLand, WDAF, and WSPA now stream live and have Roku/Fire TV apps as well. Its about damn time Nexstar got out of the livestream gutter and caught up to the 21st century. https://www.amazon.com/s?i=mobile-apps&rh=p_4%3ANexstar%2BBroadcasting%2C%2BInc.&language=en_US&linkCode=sl2&linkId=a2879ac5f46addecead377a6577a4371&search-type=ss&tag=lukebk-20&ref=as_li_ss_tl

  11. I just noticed this... for WJW's 75th anniversary last year, they have a shop. The coolest is a T-shirt featuring all past WJW general and news-related logos and that's probably THE item to get. https://fox8shop.1stplacespiritwear.com/sites/OH/Cleveland/Fox 8 https://fox8shop.1stplacespiritwear.com/sites/OH/Cleveland/Fox+8/product.html?sku=I7S114683T1206L1D11970&category=Mens

  12. I just checked WPRI and it looks like they're doing their streams live again too but I also noticed this... this could be the first of many popping up from Nexstar (FINALLY). WPRI, btw, is the first Southern New England television station to launch their own smart TV app. I'll be downloading this on my Roku, ASAP. https://www.wpri.com/wpri-12-smart-tv-app/

  13. The fall of WFRV's web efforts from their CBS days, including a livestream page that doesn't even load and is under the 'Digital Center' category like it's 1999 and CueCat is the future is a case study on how badly they've done (the page points to another page called Video Center in the same vertical, itself literally a clone of their YouTube page, just with the janky Nexstar player instead). I completely forget they exist because Nexstar's apps and websites are just so bad as glorified web wrappers, and even their Twitter presence is terrible and was always underdeveloped (they had one of their news anchors running the feed under Four Points management!). The station brands as Local 5, yet their app is named WFRVNews and the website is WeAreGreenBay.com; it's no wonder it would be a last place operation if not for WGBA (which at least is NBC26 everywhere, and WBAY and WLUK have the same branding consistency). And they acquired Frankly in the MG deal, a known good news site developer; how did they manage to screw it all up so badly?

  14. Several Nexstar stations do a lot of digital efforts (i.e. WKRGNow) which amount to a totally separate set of newscasts at different times of the day when their main ones are not broadcasting. It's a lot of effort that's stuck in an archaic method of delivery (web streaming) and can be leveraged through OTT platforms. And many of the stations Nexstar took over (especially Media General and Tribune) had robust efforts that were squandered in favor of broadcast-only methods and trying to squeeze every penny out of the pay-tv companies. Media General had a large presence on NewsOn before Nexstar took them over. Many Tribune stations even had their own streaming Roku and FireTV apps.

  15. Maybe Nexstar is finally starting to realize the game they started is finally catching up to them. The more people that cut the cord, the less money they can extract from the pay TV companies and viewers.

  19. Early returns say that I hate it but I'll wait and see what it looks like on some of their bigger stations. I see someone tried to be cute and replicate the new peacock's design and animation and failed miserably. It really doesn't work when you try to shoehorn in the border that it wasn't designed for. Also it supposed to be misaligned with the 2 like that?

  20. Ugh these corporate group graphics are becoming more and bland and boring. Geez. With the automated rundowns and lockdown cameras and bland samey theme music. Todays newscasts are BORING.

  21. The Graphics are okay, better than Tegna but nothing that stands out..

  22. Holy shit really?! You think the CBS package is good?! It's a terrible knock-off of the 2015 WTTV package that Tribune Creative West created which is far beyond the LinearDrift knockoff.
