The gold one was one of the worst things ever devised by mortal man. Those colors belong in a 1970’s car dealership. The other one was good except for the silly flying box on the left. That got old after a while.3 points

Day 1 of the then-new WTHR Channel 13 Eyewitness News. New set (developed by Devlin Design Group), new music, new graphics, new name (the second stint), new logo, new everything. The first 90 minutes of WTHR's then-new era are here from Monday, May 8th, 1995:3 points

You read that right. KWQC commissioned it (thanks to Cyle Dickens' help nonetheless) and will debut on June 10th.2 points

With that, the last of the NBC/Telemundo building divides (in terms of main operations) has finally closed. NYC was the last market where the NBC (30 Rock) and Telemundo (Fort Lee, N.J.) stations were in separate places.2 points

Technically that was RenderON specifically for WPTV. I doubt corporate had much say in that and it was before the days of standardization. But I still agree and it's one of my favorites.2 points

The official teaser image of NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas is here. When Llamas takes over Lester's role on June 2, it will be the first time a presenter came from a college graduate (specifically Loyola University) since Brokaw, because two predecessors (Brian Williams and Lester Holt) are college dropouts and did not receive a degree, not even Brokaw's predecessor (John Chancellor).2 points

Ahh gotcha it funny because when that 2019 blackout happened, WNBC used then WNJUs building to do the 11pm show that night. If there a blackout next time both stations in the word of Gen Z would be cooked. I’m sure in that NJ bureau the studio is gonna be taken out so no broadcast capabilities I hope they planned this well for screwed up scenarios. I have more scenarios in the tube but I digress.2 points

Warner-Chappell, which owns the rights to the original Hello package, composed this new series of themes, effectively Hello News v.2 (or Series 5, if you want to go by how Gari called their theme updates). Chris Majka composed a custom theme using the Hello signature that debuted last year, alongside selected cuts from Gari’s first three Hello series (the ones KWQC brought back in 2023 for their 75th anniversary).1 point

Lester Holt's farewell was also featured on... CBS Evening News. With a tribute from Maurice DuBois to his closing phrase every night. output.mp41 point

Agreed. I like the second ones more except for the flying box. The Brown graphics admittedly were not the best but I maintain that they were still more imaginative and lively than what we have now. EDIT: This is perhaps the best thing **a Scripps station ever had graphically**... ScreenRecording_05-31-2025 11-49-48_1.mov1 point

I wish WTHR was still of this format 30 years later, instead of becoming just 13 News (unfortunately, profit is king apparently, so Eyewitness went out the window in 2022).1 point

For TEGNA's CBS affiliates that want to do more news at noon but can't because of CBS programming... Put it on streaming! That's what WTSP has recently started to do with a live half-hour newscast at 12:30pm on 10 Tampa Bay+.1 point

This morning, the Fart Tank came back. If you haven't seen the original, it's still (IMO) the best Morning News bit they've ever done. https://youtu.be/NAesSGtlCqY?si=FnmKO77veXO3QUKv1 point

Great retrospective of Lester’s NN tenure, it’s hard to believe 10 years has flown by since he was elevated from weekends. He’s always been one of my favorites.1 point

It was in my last Optimum bill. TBH, since Optimum added NY1, I've never watched. I don't live within the 5 boroughs. Now if News 12 NJ went back to it's hyperlocal roots and was live more than ~3 hours a day....1 point

Better than the current Scripps package! Would be nice if local markets can customize color though... I've always associated WFTS with reds and whites, not blue.1 point

Between here and the Discord, we've seen multiple people confirm that this is a new package for the group, so there's been a thread title change.1 point

It looks like TEGNA is joining in Gray in launching 24/7 weather streams for their stations. I mentioned WVEC and WXIA some time ago here. Now, 13WMAZ wants to join in on the fun and deliver 24/7 weather coverage... Straight from the Heart.1 point

Lonnie's absence from the CBS 2 11:00 PM newscast, as well as the national news is starting to feel a tiny bit suspicious. He came back like two weeks ago, then came back again this week. It will also be interesting to see Craig Allen on the CBS national news this weekend.0 points
