  1. I guess Joe Torres no longer needs his glasses? Starting with the March 7th weekend newscast, he's been without them. Going to take a while to get accustomed to it.

  2. Ernie Anastos truly left a lasting mark on New York journalism. His work at both ABC 7 and FOX 5 set a standard for storytelling and professionalism that few have matched. The discussion here reflects on his career and influence, showing how much he meant to viewers and colleagues alike. May he rest in peace.

  3. Will he be joining his toupee in South Florida? (That was sent there after Marty Bass found himself under... interesting circumstances.)

  4. An insane amount of technical errors. On the debut day, they were in the middle of a live report on a fire that killed 3 kids and the automation dumped them out into a 3-minute commercial break at 4:03p … right after the show had just started. They came back, apologized, and had to start all over again. Double boxes randomly showed up during a weather hit (the news anchor was looking down and had no clue he was on camera), no audio off the top of the newscast, going to black for 30ish seconds, reporters who clearly don’t know they’re live on air (one guy was chit-chatting with a state trooper passing him in a parking lot as he was being introduced and the anchor had to introduce him a second time to get his attention), etc. They’re using an extremely condensed version of the new open that seems unnecessarily rushed and they are also alternating the same three transitions/wipes over and over and over again before each story. It has just been really, really bad quality from a station that has never had widespread issues like this before.

  5. The current longest-running anchor team in DFW and one of the longest in the entire country... Steve Eager and Heather Hays. 25 years together, and still counting, at KDFW. https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1483715459782045&id=100044308155592

  6. That was during the GE cost cutting era. Under Comcast, NBC has invested in many of their O&Os and there has been no talk of selling actual stations publicly. What Comcast and NBCU has done is sell sports networks and NECN that seemed to become a second thought that was outside their focus. They have also grown their Telemundo O&O presence. My DMA is (except for one station - still considered a flagship though owned by a sidecar) is all network O&OS and as mentioned probably safer from many of the changes facing local TV and affiliates.

  7. I remember watching on Fox 5 with Dari Alexander when I was younger. I’m won’t tell you my age but I’m under 25.

  8. Ernie was still well known by younger generations aparently. Even the "New Yorker" IG page was posing about him. He looked really great at 82!

  9. This one is really sad. He was a legendary news figure in this great city.

  10. That's the joke. Like the third place station in a two station race. Dish has always been scum so it's probably Sling TV that keeps them in business.

  11. Wait, there's a third satellite-based provider besides those two?

  12. And the stations are gone. I'm surprised that Dish is still around. They're the third DSS provider in a 2 way race to the bottom with DirecTV.

  13. One thing that is beginning to irritate me about this whole GrayONE package is how long it's taking to roll out... How about instead of trying to get more stations, invest money in current stations, especially those that can't handle the GrayONE graphics first?? This is exactly like how Sinclair was -- taking YEARS to roll out a single package to all stations... They are focusing on the wrong priorities...

  15. TV listings still go by WSVN's news as Channel 7 News, though that hasn't been used since WSVN's early tabloid days.

  16. All of this, plus Sunbeam only owns FL stations in Miami. They have no other station to air it on unless they syndicate it. Is anyone's cable boxes listing ABC 18 as "ABC 7 News", tvpassport has the same thing.

  17. If I just got pink-slipped from my job, if the job offer is where there are openings and perhaps I have a connection to land said job, and if my family and I wanted to keep living in the market and community and not have to move, you can bet I wouldn't care that it's one of the lower rated stations with more than it's fair share of drama. I get that this board likes to slam the current issues at CBS News- most of it is warranted. But I'm examining this through a lens of people getting back on their feet and back to a job. Plus, if history tells us anything, the leadership door will continue to revolve at corporate.

  18. Sounds like a missed opportunity to revive (Women's) Wide World of Sports.

  19. Marquee should keep going for as long as they want to. Don't give Sinclair any more ideas.

  20. Why am I, and everyone else here, not surprised? I legitimately called it.

  21. Well keep in mind WLS dropped "Eyewitness News" in 1997, and brought it back in 2013. I never thought in my lifetime they bring that back either.

  22. Some news involving New York's Capitol Region (both articles from The Albany Times-Union, meaning they are paywalled)... Seven years at WTEN, four as Nexstar's New York State political reporter, and Jamie DeLine is leaving for a new job in Raleigh. https://www.timesunion.com/kristi/article/political-reporter-jamie-deline-leaving-wten-new-21331751.php Also, Meteorologist Reid Kisselback will be leaving WNYT at the end of the week. He, too, has accepted a new job in Raleigh. https://www.timesunion.com/kristi/article/meteorologist-reid-kisselback-leaving-wnyt-21331416.php So what's the connection here if both are taking new jobs in Raleigh? Well, actually, they're married to each other and are expecting their first child together, a baby girl, this winter so congrats to them on that front.

  24. I've never heard of it, but considering the sheer number of diginets out there, I'm not surprised.

  25. I am very interested to see if their CW stations (and especially WVTV, who under Rincon shouldn't, but does still carry TND) do dip out of the CW's Penn & Teller marathon on Sunday night to air it.

  26. And with all of this shuffling and consolidation, they still won't put a "local" newscast in St. Louis on KDNL ABC 30.

  27. That means they probably now operate KMYT as well. I have a feeling it will be "KOKI" soon, a.k.a., being seen on KTUL 8.2, have the newscasts merged, and operations will be gutted on both sides. Ugh. This is why Sinclair is pure evil. And no way in HELL will Sinclair will continue to maintain KOKI's current newscast schedule. Lots of cuts coming there too once operations merge if Sinclair is still dealing with financial issues (which I believe is BS though). Ugh.

  28. It's bad enough that KTUL got decimated by Sinclair. It's downright appalling that it appears KOKI is going to be gutted as well. That basically leaves Griffin and Scripps to serve the market, and even Scripps is in a risky position as well. Sickening for a market of Tulsa's size.

  29. After some googling, it may be KOKH preparing to be "sold" to Sinclair. They were part of the Imagicomm sale to Rincon. Figures that there is funny business between Rincon and Sinclair. Don't be fooled by the new graphics in in Springfield and Quincy/Kirksville, Rincon may as well be a shadow company run by Sinclair itself despite any "divestitures"....

  30. Wow ABC really wants the ABC 7 logo to be consistent in their top tier stations. The KGO switch was totally left field. I'm really going to miss the stations previous logos. It was those subtle differences that forged unique identities for them. There was a charm in that. Even back in the days when WLS' logo was awkwardly placed haha. I thought it was the most quirkiest. I guess they are adopting this practice from the other national networks, like CBS and NBC. Now I wonder, if WABC will modify their unique "Eyewitness News" wordmark to match the ones on the other stations in the west.. I'm glad KGO kept their version of the ABC O&O theme. I still think its wild that KABC switched to the WABC music Dispatch theme. Its not a fit for LA in my opinion. The theme feels out of place for that region.

  31. WUSA (CBS/Washington, DC) unveiled the new TEGNA graphics today using a different varient of the Pixel Lens theme music & a voiceover & lol at them butchering a town name in Falls Church, VA as well as not using Washington, DC in the list of town names.

  33. It sure sounds to me like they are trying to implement the Tegna model before the merger goes through... There's a controversial word used for Tegna stations "Tegnafiying"... and I think Nexstar caught it.
