  1. That's awesome! I'm gonna try my hand at a mock-up of this later on. I think it'll be a cool-looking logo if it does end up getting used, much better than the current one that replaced the old "W6N" looking logo (not that the current one is bad in any way, but this would be a nice upgrade and I kind of like the retro look, and it'd also go along with their affiliates KTLA and PIX11 using somewhat retro logo styles). EDIT: Made my own mock-up of what this might have looked like. Thanks, Spring Rubber, for the description of this. Hope it's close to what they obviously accidentally showed off too early.

  2. Meteorologist Mike Witcher is returning to Knoxville's WBIR in May. He left the station in 2014 to join WeatherNation in Denver. http://www.wbir.com/weather/meteorologist-mike-witcher-returning-to-wbir-in-may/430706193 http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/longtime-kbir-meteorologist-returns/189066

  3. The city is bad outside of downtown... but you have to understand that 4.8 million of the 5.5 million or so in the viewing area don't live in the city... things are quite alright in the burbs thank you... so it's a complete misconception people who aren't from the area have about it...

  4. Ever since the Comcast takeover in 2011-2012ish, WCAU's brand has been hard news. I don't feel like Tracy, Vai, and Jessica going live in Wawa takes anything away from the substance of the newscast. They still had Rosemary doing most of the morning newscast in the studio and checking in after news, weather, and traffic. The morning newscast has gone on location, DNC and the Inauguration, and they had someone in home base doing the rest of the newscast.

  6. They couldn't if they also acquire Tribune, since that deal alone would put them over the cap, let alone anything beyond that.

  9. Chicagos Best is getting a spinoff of sorts. S.E.E. Chicago (Shopping, Entertainment and Events) is gonna air at 1030pm Sundays starting this weekend on WGN. Some nutritionist/author/reality show veteran named Dawn Jackson Blatner hosts.

  11. This open is from Argentina (I previously posted it on the International News section), belongs to the TV channel Telefe, and aired between April 1997 until June 1998. It's a good open, with a lot of time-lapse shots and a virtual studio; the music is the thing I dislike.

  12. It's about comparable in size and probably pulls in more ad dollars... your point?

  13. No it just seems like an odd thing to do - broadcast from a WaWa? I thought WCAU was going a more serious tone and then they do this. Just seems like something their sales department dreamed up.

  14. I would think they would sell to one company to get the deal done, but Scripps has turned into a big joke just like TEGNA. I think at the time Wolfes will keep both stations in their hands, but I do think down the road they will sell. I was told the children don't want the business. However, the family has alot in real estate.

  15. I think it's too early to tell, at least for me. I actually kind of like the idea of having a new, young presence if a station's going to have a designated digital person. It's generally lower-risk, and if they pay their dues, they eventually get promoted to on-air, or go somewhere else with a solid entry on the resume. Also, I'm inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, considering the hiring under Idler and company has been way more hit than miss. He comes from a good program, likely has a decent idea of the market because of it, and his initial reports have been serviceable. Besides, the last gentleman to be hired at such a young age now anchors at 5, 6, and 10, in case anyone needed a success story. By that logic, Jesse will be promoted to lead anchor in 2051, give or take a year.
