  1. I'm digging... Right now, I have 32 cases, each with 10 DVDs (3-4 newscasts per DVD) sitting on the desk to migrate from DVD to a Hard Drive. I've been through 12 (not in the 32 above) already - a nice tedious process, but when all is said and done, I'll have everything stored (at least) 4 ways: CD/DVD, Server Storage, Upload to Vimeo, and external hard drive (which will probably end up at my parents), and a possible second one elsewhere for safekeeping... Now the question - do I upgrade my Vimeo account so that I can upload more than 5GB/week? (about 10-11 videos...) More are in boxes... Update: just found another 34 cases in a box upstairs... Lots of newscasts!!!! J

  2. It's a great management tool to knock your assumed "Golden Boy" (Muir) down a few notches...just as a reminder as to "who" is in charge. ABC could have said "Just sit this one out Dave...we have it covered..." To which Davids Agent reacts.... "Holy Sh$T"... Good way to make the talent and his agent much less important at contract re-negotiation time. Might even save a few million off the top.

  3. Dray used to be at CBS3 before going to ABC7 in NY. Wasn't a fan of him when he was here before. Wonder where Steve fits into the weather lineup?

  4. I saw that. I dare say that I still think he has done an overall great job. As for the content of that one report, there is certainly more than one person vetting the content of a news story. If there's blame, it needs to be shared. And, from my point of view, it's certainly not as potentially heinous an ethical crime as keeping a mic and a camera on a distraught woman after she makes it vividly clear that she doesn't want to be filmed, as was the case on CNN this week. Let's face it, when you're flying by the seat of your pants, as these folks are during times like these, fumbles happen. I'll actually argue that I haven't seen anyone really do bad work this week.

  5. Tom Llamas has been exceptional. I guess you can add me to the chorus of folks thinking that David Muir might have wanted to come back to work given such a massively important story. Save for personal or family illness, I'm not seeing a good reason to sit this out. We all need our time off, but I'd find it impossible to not be in the mix during such a crucial time. In my field of radio, I also know that listener loyalty is built during times like these. They want that connection to the voice they hear every day during such deeply affecting times. And when something new and shiny comes along, it's the performance of a anchor/reporter during times like these that keep people focused on you and your work. While I'm here, I have to say that Matt Gutman's reports have been particularly strong. This is a guy who is clearly not afraid to get his hands dirty on the field. Top marks for him, indeed.

  6. WGME added a 7PM newscast this week, shifting Entertainment Tonight from its longtime home to 7:30PM. The Insider was cancelled by CTD, which created the vacancy. Sister station WPFO's 6:30PM newscast was cancelled last December after a two-year run.

  8. WPLG does it, WSVN does it, WABC does it, most stations in the west coast do it. So... yeah.

  9. I really think we're gonna hear about retirement soon for Glenn. With the addition of Steve Sosna, they will now have six meteorologists. You could make it seven if you count Violeta Yas, from Telemundo 62, who occasionally fills in on Channel 10

  10. You know what was even better? The mid-90s opens with an animation across the Texas State Capitol:

  12. I will say though... Jeff and Dawn have brought a consistency that hadn't been seen at 'FLD since 2008. Kudos to them for finally rebuilding consistency and a solid product!

  13. The local inserts on Satellite News Channel are really interesting. I thought Headline News was the only cable network to do that in the mid/late '90s.

  15. The hits keep on coming! No Phoenix news material but the KNXV promos are a nice bonus and the regional Satellite News Channel stuff is pretty darn rare.
