  1. I'm no rocket scientist, but I'm 99% sure that when people stop watching something, its ratings go down. Math.

  2. To Des Moines we go: Fun fact: The VO in this open series is David Oman, who was at the time also the co-chair of the Iowa Republican Party (and is still important in Iowa Republican politics). The next KCCI open series survived until 2000, but in a cut-down form:

  6. Here is rare WTEN news footage focusing on a snowstorm that hit the area in 1987. News open is seen at 0:17 into the video with ID at the beginning.

  7. Aside from the new look/set, Telemadrid is making big changes to its newscasts. They made some big hires in the last few months--they managed to poach Lourdes Maldonado from Antena 3. On a side note, Informativos Telecinco also got new graphics

  9. You get fired. You don't get to claim Contentious Objector status if that's what you mean. Besides...just "WHO" is going to object at the station? Here's how it works... The log in master control says "Chatting With Boris" runs at 7:47:30...that day. But you run "Friskies Catfood" commercial at 7:47:30....an not Boris. You note the "discrepancy" on the log. in the section marked "reason for discrepancy" you write down "refuse to run". The next day you get summoned to the traffic office where they ask "why didn't you run Boris when the log said to do so???" What are you gonna say to your boss??? "Uh- I didn't feel like it???" duh There will be no "Kumbya" singing...not sit-in's...no signs made of cardboard...no chants. Just a trip out the door with the HR lady and your box of personal crap from your locker...and your last pay check. No little newsroom uprisings...if you don't like how the place is run...you can leave.

  10. We've been doing so well finding clips this weekend, I thought I'd add one more. A WVTM open from 1988 using the same graphics & music as KDFW, KTBC, and KTVI around that time period. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=bPprq8HM1_w;m=24;s=1

  15. WGN announced on-air today that just like last year, "Cubs Nightly" will air every night at 6:30pm from October 2nd until the Cubs' playoff run is over. It will replace the 6:30-7pm block of news, which, of course, didn't exist last October.

  16. Oh my. Nora has been with Action News way more than the years I've been alive. As much as I'll miss her as their reporter (aka New Jersey Correspondent), I'm so proud of her as a local TV personality and as a human being, and I'm so happy for her as she's worked as hard and as long as anyone this long in the business and deserves her time to R&R (Retire and Rock-on).

  17. I'm gonna side with TSSZNews here. Unless Sinclair offloads the station to Fox for some reason, they're not going to cancel it. It does too well for both parties here. And man on Nora Muchanic's retirement... all of the familiar faces of WPVI past are slowly going away, one by one...

  18. And even with that, I'll bet NBC will still give MKT at least 1 full season, plus bringing back Sunday Night in the spring! They paid a lot for her, so they'd be getting their money's worth!

  19. That's quite a find - Yours Truly on WVTM! And from Mr. NMSA's home market. Same 'cloud' set backdrop as WNCT had at the time.

  20. scripps has more requirements for it's "must run" national "investigations" than sinclair does with their crap... everyone loves getting told by corporate that you MUST run this story at the top of the A block at 10pm on a certain date...

  22. If enough ND's or GM's refused to air the "must" runs, the company would probably just give up. They couldn't fire everybody and it would send a message to corporate that it was a bad idea (and GM's getting together to complain about something until it goes away is a thing that HAS happened in the past.) But these people work for Sinclair. They're probably more concerned with finding a new job and not burning bridges than they are about fighting running Boris' Rant.

  23. Even though ewjxn has been uploading mostly late '80s-early '90s Phoenix material, the next thing I would love to see is some KPNX news from 1979 when they changed their call letters. I've always had this theory that the Gannett "Death Star" ID started earlier than 1981: According to the top story, this aired on January 20, 1981, leading me to believe the Gannett station IDs started way earlier. I'd also like to see some KTVK from their "Count On Us" era (1978-1980).

  25. Wow, I've never seen that before and it's been on YT for years. The music comes from this (probably Copeland) package, "WAVE 3, Part of Your Life":

  26. WAVE 3 in 1989 -- a tail end of their first Tvbd set of opens appears at 5:57. I wonder if the full open can be found anywhere. (However it would probably resemble the same kind of opens that were used by WFTV, WTHR, WFSB, etc.)
