This is very interesting. Hearst wants to buy Lockwood's WCWG outright. And wants a waiver of the duopoly rule (specifically the eight-voices test) to get the greenlight.3 points

Canal 13 (Buenos Aires) in 1967, in what it looks it was the opener for their evening news:2 points

At this point, they're better off having a set of rotating anchors ala 60 Minutes. You can't trust these bone-heads to make a good choice in selecting a replacement for Pelley.2 points

FWIW, here's a snippet of the closing theme from that era I found from a video on a WYFF alumni facebook group (that's since been made private) a while back. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1khSlAbjCvYQWVpUTdEcjNCZmM2 points

Well this is true, just never know with today's economics in the M&A train. Maybe they grab a portion of it? Who knows.1 point

From FTVLIVE.com TEGNA stock price is dropping and it ripe to be sold. With TEGNA being heavy with NBC affiliates, but who would grab TEGNA? If it could be divided up between Hearst, Graham and maybe Gray (just my speculation) http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/10/4/tegna-is-ripe-to-be-sold1 point

From my correspondence with his widow, she maintains that she still has all his stuff on DAT. She moved up to Santa Rosa in the last couple years, I still want to go up and listen to that stuff but I think it still hasn't been unpacked...1 point

I didn't realize Jim Douglas was at KXAS as well. Is it just me or has just about everyone been with at least 2 of the 3 majors in DFW (KXAS, KDFW & WFAA) except for Clarice at KDFW?1 point

Didn't know that Marler and Marshall ever worked at KATU.... and yeah, that is one bad slogan.1 point

That '95 KNAZ clip...were their studios by a rail line or something? I swear I can hear a train horn in the background at the beginning of the show. Guess they couldn't afford much soundproofing for their building... Meanwhile, off to Spokane we go, for KREM in 1996. Note the music... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=NlnXJRYFT2Y;t=2 And a little later in the year, it seems that KXLY had already gone to Counterpoint. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=P5eRDAbK-Hw;m=3;s=12 And finally, from Portland, some...odd usage of the Fisher sounder, and a slogan so bad it absorbed the station ID!1 point

With all of the focus on Central Arizona, I needed to throw in a few Northern Arizona pieces! (And for the 7 of you who already found the newscasts, they have been "fixed", if you understand what I mean...) Ah, that makes sense! I thought it was the generic title of all their weekend newscasts.1 point

That would have been early enough where I wonder if One80 (who designed the original Hearst GFX) was willing to customize and syndicate it out to other non-competing stations before Hearst started mass-producing it for their stations. Certainly it was way more difficult to rip off entire looks like that in the mid 90s than it is today.1 point

That Package must've been used for promos only, because they held on to the 1993 opens until late 1997. Anyway, here's some Connecticut News from 1996 - earliest I've seen 'TNH with First News1 point

A KSDK promo from October 1996 with a graphics package I haven't seen, just try and guess what it's inspired by! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=tCai5tOsOuI;m=4;s=391 point

I think a rotation of Anchors would be fine. Shake it up a bit like the National did (CBC I think??). Or try the two anchor format again since they are in CTM studio. What they need to do is, give the show a stand alone studio to because this one studio thing feels like they are poor and giving up. Plus it seems like they don't want Norah O'Donnell off CTM so they need to find a respectable person in that slot. They may never be number one again but they need something a little different and permanent.1 point

Yeah, Burns was a client for Pulitzer (KOAT's owner). His work popped up on KOAT's sister stations as well, mainly WYFF, KCCI, WDSU, and WGAL. (WESH doesn't count cause they were still H&C owned when they debuted Jcbd's graphics in 1992). By the way, speaking of WYFF, I'm now on the hunt for finding footage from that station from the 1990s. So far, all we have is the 1990 news update, a 1991-92 promo and update which can both be found on Facebook, some 1993-94 promos on YouTube, a short open from 1994 on NewsActive3's compilations, and a partial newscast which incorrectly stated that the station was WSPA in the video title.1 point

A whole reel of KOAT footage from this photographer who spent five months there in 1998. Starts out with a shot of his John Christopher Burns-designed business card (and other graphics that still jump off the screen 20 years later!). How had I not seen this before?1 point
