  1. Primetime News has been in use with WOOD for 25 years... They use so many different cuts but each one sounds current and catchy.... It can be done with the right package...

  2. Just because TV isn’t the main focus doesn’t mean you can’t still put a quality product on air. See Hearst, Griffin, Hubbard, Graham etc. To use the online shopping analogy, Target still makes their brick and mortar stores nice and clean even though more people are shopping online. They even incorporate some online elements like online grocery pickup. But they don’t change the way their stores feel. You’ll still get the same shopping experience inside you always have. That option is still available. When the day comes that no one wants to shop in stores anymore... great, take the stores away. But there’s no need to lessen the experience while they still exist. It is possible to make both your web content AND TV content have quality while acknowledging one is on its way out. Also, I would say major industries like Coca-Cola have a reason to appeal to the young crowd because they want to hook people while they’re young and make them customers for life. But since we know young people aren’t watching TV, there’s no point to appeal to them on TV when they’re never going to be your audience in the first place. Putting TV news marketing and Soda marketing in the same category is an apples and oranges scenario. You’re talking about two totally different customer bases. However, your online product should definitely appeal to them, because you do want to hook them there. We know young people prefer to get their news from the internet.

  3. Absolutely agree again, and if there is ever a merger of the Internet and TV (ATSC 3.0 is an early indication that we may be heading in that direction), then the TV product must be high quality anyway in preparation for any eventuality. In any case, it's never wrong to strive for the best possible product. If Hearst is successful with producing a stellar gfx pkg and music, then Tegna can and should do better. There are many fads in life, and I can guarantee you that "C Clarity" is one of those fads. Is it any wonder why you still hear music pkgs like Signature, Primetime News, MCTYW, Eyewitness News, and others on-the-air decades after they were first introduced (albeit with updates in many cases)? The composers of those pkgs used their talent to create iconic music packages that have survived the passage of time. "C Clarity" lacks any memorable element whatsoever.

  4. Not to mention, Hearst has been using Strive since 2013 and it hasn’t aged a bit. Hard to find a music package in circulation that long that still sounds just as cutting-edge as the day it started.

  7. From what I could tell on the West Mass News Open vs the WABC open, the color scheme looks very the same as WABC but obviously the way WABC did the open is totally different compared to what Western Mass News did. A good example of that would the way the animations of the graphics is done at WGGB vs the way WABC does theirs. My conclusion is that yes it's syndicated but because of the way the color scheme looks the boxes are used for one third of the screen in the beginning the news open, you could say it's a ripoff but I'd say its 50/50

  8. Although I don't like the package, Aerial hasn't aged since its commission in 2010.

  9. Robert Feder says CLTV is gone at the end of the month. A dozen folks will be kept and shift to WGN, while "four or five" will be cut. The memo from the GM says they plan to expand WGN's weekend morning news in Q1 2020, in addition to adding sports and politics programming. https://www.robertfeder.com/2019/12/16/nexstar-media-pulling-plug-cltv-cable-news-channel/

  10. BIG issues tonight on WABC.. not sure when it happened exactly but at the top of the 5:00 hour it was commercials until about 5:10. Then Lee Goldberg broke in and gave an extended weather forecast before tossing it back to Bill and Sandra.. they got through about two stories and at the end of Toni Yates story the camera was stuck on her live shot.. they got back to the studio where the graphics from Toni story were still on screen.. they attempted to read the next story and Bill and Sandra quickly went back to commercial. 5:20 and it’s a replay of a newscast with Liz Cho ( I do not believe it’s today’s first at 4) it’s a complete mess lol definitely the computer going nuts 5:30 Lee is back on air and on Facebook live

  11. This should've been the lineup. Not to knock on Jeanette, because she is a great anchor and fantastic reporter. But Sarah deserves her promotion and this would've been it.

  12. Ben Aaron is a fantastic pickup for them. He’s hysterical, creates great content for TV and social media. One of the smarter pickups they have made. I’m also glad to see Marysol back again!

  15. I wonder when the new MSNBC weekend lineup is coming: they have hired 3 new anchors for it already. They also have Kendis Gibson and Alex Witt

  17. It still takes time away from local news content - and you can bet they can't bury it like Sinclair stations did with Boris et al.

  19. Hosea Sanders is filling in at the desk at 4 today for the first time since the WCIU broadcast was canceled. I was beginning to think that they phased him out of anchoring for good, though this could be a last resort type thing, as holiday schedules get wacky. Either way, nice to see him back in the role, especially with Judy.

  21. They still have Full Measure with Sharyl Atkisson and America This Week with Eric Bolling..... does this mean we'll soon see Cooking With Boris?

  22. From the nice touch department... WXYZ has started using the traditional “Good evening I’m”... across all of its newscasts when there isn’t breaking news leading off... its been almost 10 years since they used this style of open consistently. They’ve started doubling down on hard news so this may be connected to that.

  23. In other words, more time for political ads. I hope all the groups will do the same, including Hearst and Tegna.

  28. Bumping up this thread: Remember I said a while ago that Gray's WWBT is now using the graphics - currently used on WDBJ, WITN and others - and started using 615 Music's Sinclair News Package (the Curves version) on Sinclair's WRLH? Well, I took some pics from my phone and here they are (remember, WRLH doesn't stream their newscasts online). The weather graphics on both WWBT and WRLH, by the way, are currently used on WDTV 5 (CBS) in north-central West Virginia (Morgantown/Clarksburg/Fairmont/Weston). Plus, I forgot to mention the newscasts on WRLH began airing from WWBT's news set a few months ago before the graphics and music switch. Check them out, y'all. (NOTE TO SELF: crop the pics)

  29. Sorry if I bump a stagnant thread but.. As promised by Sinclair CEO Chris Ripley during the last earnings call, John Wall Street repoted on Friday that Sinclair is indeed going to increase it's stake in Stadium. Right now details at this point are limited as far as how much stake Sinclair will have in Stadium but this has to be a HUGE boost for not just Sinclair and Stadium itself but for the RSNs as well which makes sense given that Ripley has hinted about leveraging more Stadium content on the RSNs outside of the pre and post game shows. The announcement on those should come within the next week or so (possibly either the day after thanksgiving or next week) stay tuned.

  30. Most of what you listed is national programming, and will be seen everywhere. That was specifically discouraged in the initial post of this thread. Consider this an example of what not to post here, and a warning for all.

  35. That's not a knock off. It's been syndicated (see below). If there is any confusion about what a knock off is, it's a secondary graphics package that looks like another design originated at another station. Likely the package is executed horribly if it's meant to mirror the design completely (see WNEM) or has clear elements similar to an original package, where there is no mistaken identity for inspiration (See WSMV).
