  1. I dont think this has been shared yet. CBS News Detroit open: [LINK REMOVED BY MANAGEMENT]

  2. *reads the article* Mmmm... Someone's feeling desperate. Another option: Be acquired by Hearst and also shove Soo Kim and Standard General to the curb. (That said, Tegna may be too big for Hearst to absorb even after divesting stations in conflict markets.)

  3. The blackmailing by Soo Kim has been ridiculous. IMO, if they went with the Allen deal, it would be done by now. I can think of a few other paths once the outside date comes: 1) Stay with the status quo, but that may be impossible with lawsuit threats. 2) Find another option and merge with them, create a new company (presumably as Tegna) with a mix of people and block out Soo Kim. One possibility is acquiring the Hearst stations, have some Hearst people involved in the new company and shove Soo Kim and Standard General (and Apollo) to the curb. Can it be done without hedge funds of any kind though? 3) Accept the Allen offer, but they didn't the first time...

  4. And that’s other thing the Black Caucus (which imo doesn’t really care about black people) wouldn’t back Byron but did Soo Kim says a lot about them. Byron literally had the investors for Tegna. He briefly put it to the Broncos but ya know what happened. Also black caucus should’ve questioned whether he put more African American GM & NDs.

  5. Because nothing says “trust me, I’m not just a greedy hedge fund manager” than using character assassination to blackmail your opponents. /s I’m no Tegna fanboy, but based on his behavior (and the nature of the purchase), Soo Kim has no business owning TV stations. The broadcast industry will be better off without him if/when this merger fails.

  6. Per this Instagram post, Dick Brennan is joining Dana Tyler as co-anchor of CBS 2 News at 6, starting today: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cj0wcxpDblD/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y= Interesting move. I like the idea of coanchors, but Dana has been solo at 6pm for so many years now (since Chris Wragge moved to mornings after Rob Morrison was let go, which I believe was in 2013).

  7. The creator of this thread has been inactive on these boards for over two years. Let's rename it.

  8. Soo Kim playing the race card knowing that he isn't going to get TEGNA now which TEGNA should've gone with Byron Allen even know he'd run the TEGNA stations on the cheap. I was surprised that Hearst sold WZZM in the late 90's to TEGNA and I doubt that Hearst wants to buy TEGNA when it goes back on the market.

  9. I second the motion of renaming the thread and removing the corresponding tag that matches what's currently in the title.

  10. For me, I liked the format of the early Prime Time KCAL news block. The 8p hour was designated as the California Report, the 9p hour was the World Report and the 10p was the normal local broadcast.

  11. WTOL in Toledo used nightwatch in the 90's and possibly early 2000's.

  12. Another Louisiana station that had “NightWatch” in the name is WWL4 in NOLA. (They may need to use that name for the 10p newscast again)

  13. Like the KWCH post, this doesn’t really have to do with graphics (since the station is still using the Quincy package for now), but WPTA brought back the legacy “21 Alive” branding on Monday (October 17) after a six-year run under the “ABC 21” moniker. The logo introduced with the Quincy package was modified to replace the WPTA calls with the “ALIVE” moniker and to remove the ABC Circle logo.

  14. NBC 5 is now a tie-optional operation, and I'm not sure how to feel about it.

  15. Here we go again the speculation 5000 on Channel 46 and CBS. Nothing not happening and ANF is going to be just like Clear News here today gone tomorrow. This is so stupid honestly. The brand has been CBS46 and should of stayed CBS46 ANF could of come into play. At this points CBS is moving to Channel 17- here you now go run with that. SMH

  16. My 2¢: Use of a corner (and even strategic use, based on the actual studio) can let a station have 2 separate sets in a space that may have originally been designed for 1. Plus, depending on the set design, use of a corner can make the studio seem bigger on air than it is (all in the sight lines and layout…). A lot of work has been done to optimize these set designs, and while we may not like the sameness between markets, most folks watching don’t even know that the same set KATC has may be being used at WMAR or KXLF… Jim

  17. I don't know why everyone is so picky about sets being in the corner.. I think it makes great use of space that's usually not used... Take WOOD for example.. They hosted the MI Gubernatorial Debate last night... They were able to move the anchor desk completely and use that space in the corner for a "press room" area... A lot of these sets where you see big ass desks dead center in the studio would have a hard time being moved someplace else if they needed the studio for something else...

  18. It isn't really coincidental. The new guys running CNN used to run CBS This Morning.

  19. Not quite; airing the debate on WSTR was out of necessity, not for “public interest” reasons. Nexstar doesn’t own a station in Cincinnati, and had to partner w/ Sinclair in that market to ensure its debate could be seen in every Ohio market. That said, it’s really not a big deal IMHO. Is it any different than WABC/WPVI having exclusivity over a New Jersey gubernatorial debate? I actually don’t mind Nexstar doing this. Just like ABC in NJ, Nexstar has the rights to host this debate, so why wouldn’t they air it on their platforms? If anything, airing it in all of their markets broadens the reach of the debate, as it now airs on stations that may not otherwise have carried it. And what does it have to do w/ NewsNation? These debates are being moderated by local anchors/reporters, not Chris Cuomo (and thank God for that).

  20. Curious to see what Gray's plans for the station are.... Could Telemundo Cincinnati be in the future? Maybe even something related to 3.0. it's basically been a subchannel repository for the last decade or so after losing out on the CW to WKRC 12.2. Speaking of WKRP, when's the last time that show's been shown on TV? At least the DVD release restored a lot of the original music that was stripped from later TV airings.... And one last thing, my fellow babies....

  21. New M&A. The LP acquisitive train continues to roll...... Cincinnati's WBQC-LD (known for its branding "WKRP-TV") was owned by Elliot Block, until his passing in November 2019. It has since been operated by a trust. Gray is going to snag this LP for $2.5K.

  22. HEADLINE: CBS2 HAS A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH A FORMER ANCHOR Yes, you read that right. She'll be filing reports for the station, throughout the next week's ceremonies.

  23. Ikr, we don’t know if CBS wants to do that if @Myron Falwelladded me back on discord if shut them down.

  24. Here's what can I see happening: Eventually, CBS drops WANF and moves to the station it already owns here, WUPA, and perhaps change the call letters to WCBA (CBS Atlanta/CBS News Atlanta), as the current WUPA calls are a reference to the long-defunct UPN. This will allow to WANF to run more news and operate it as a true news-heavy channel, since that seems to be the brand they're trying to go for anyway. And then CBS can essentially do what they're doing in Detroit and establish a legit locally-run news operation instead of the Dallas-produced newscasts they're airing currently. As for The CW, or what of it will exist at that time, Gray can sell WPCH (which essentially won't be "needed" once CBS leaves WANF) off to Nexstar and then that can basically become Atlanta's version of KTLA/WGN/WPIX, etc.
