So much for that idea, then. Sounds like ABC's options are limited to either a subchannel on KTVI, KMOV, KSDK, or KPLR....or the less likely hope that Sinclair sells KDNL.
-
I like all of your suggestions for Weigel-owned stations that can take the ABC affiliation from Sinstar, but for Seattle, I think the network would be better served by working out a deal with Cox and CBS to send that network to KSTW and free KIRO to take on ABC. Advantages: ABC would get an affiliate that has a well-established news department and KIRO isn't forced to become an indie station when CBS pulls its affiliation for KSTW.
-
The same as KNLC's primary?
-
Exhibit A: Al Jazeera America. Exhibit B: The increasingly US-centric BBC World News. Or, at least, the version we see here in the states. (I hope the rest of the world doesn't have to put up with that much coverage of Trump and US news on an international channel!)
-
Hm. Sounds like it might be easier to hope KDNL is one of the station Sinclair eventually unloads.
-
How's ABC's relationship with Weigel? That company owns KNLC.
-
If Nexstar and Sinclair would have been able to get away with preempting Kimmel long-term, I really think they would've dropped the other late-night talkers as well (Colbert, Fallon, Meyers, and possibly the double-dose of Comics Unleashed).
-
If anything this whole affair has proven that Nexstar doesn't have the public's interest at heart and that the Tegna merger should be toast.
-
When does KIRO's current affiliation agreement with CBS end, anyway?
-
I really hope Nexstar and Sinclair's shareholders are paying attention, because they probably have a case, too.
-
The drama's not over for Disney -- now the company's facing a shareholder lawsuit. One more thing.... It's time to bring back Schoolhouse Rock. Even if the episodes have to be remade for HD, it's time.
-
Meanwhile, there are people out there on social media who mean well but may be slightly confused.... So, we should punish Disney/ABC for Sinclair and Nexstar not honoring their affiliation agreements? (Also, Too-Far Carr is, last I checked, not a Disney employee.) Who wants to tell her?

I think the only Disney-owned cable channel that would be available and have widespread coverage is FX. FXX might be a better fit content-wise, but it doesn't as much carriage as its sister station. And Freeform effectively doesn't exist between 11pm and midnight ET. (IYKYK.)
-
The show will be on Hulu the day after it airs. No idea what time, though, but probably no sooner than 6:37am ET (12:37am Hawaii time). And, of course, segments will be released to the show's YouTube channel. I actually think that tonight's episode should be made available there in its entirety so that as many viewers as possible can see Kimmel's first episode post-suspension.

Not sure what ABC is showing this hour nationally, but WTNH (the Nexstar-owned ABC affiliate here in CT) repeated their 11:00pm news (which was already running late due to football overrun) and is now repeating CT Buzz, their midday lifestyle show. Immediately following that second showing, though, was an extended shot from a rooftop camera that lasted at least three minutes. I'm guessing they were still trying to figure out what to put on next.
-
Unless the networks have all been waiting to see which one of them dumps Sinclair first. I'm sure tonight's Monday Night Football game and tomorrow's Dancing with the Stars (both live programs) were a factor, too.
-
At least not without some serious concessions.
-
Personally, I hope ABC read them the riot act and made it perfectly clear that not airing JKL would be a violation of their affiliation agreement...but that's just me. I'd have preferred a full-throated public apology from Disney/ABC executives (including Iger) to Kimmel, his staff, and viewers, but this is good.
-
That's a great description for what stations like WWOR look like these days.
-
Definitely the latter for Nexstar, Sinclair, and probably Gray. Another reason for networks to rethink the affiliate model, I guess.
-
Meanwhile, Ted Cruz doesn't like what Carr did...but not for the obvious First Amendment reason. Ted Cruz Compares FCC Chairman’s Jimmy Kimmel Comment To ‘Goodfellas,’ Calls It “Dangerous” To Use Government To Force Late-Night Host Off Air Later... Cruz apparently thinks Kimmel slandered Kirk and his family by saying the suspect was part of MAGA? I'm pretty sure that's not how slander works. I mean, it's like saying that someone slandered JFK and the Kennedy clan with a statement that was entirely about Lee Harvey Oswald.
-
That's a good topic...for the Speculatron.
-
Or someone realized that people were now paying attention to Nexstar and the FCC for all the wrong reasons and there's be no way to hide this deal's ugliness except to hold off on putting the paperwork up.
-
Possibly soon, but not yet. Right now, it's time for ABC to grow a spine and do right by Kimmel, his staff, and his viewers.
