  1. Actually, BBC America and some PBS stations (WGBH and NHPBS are the two I know of) will be simulcasting it live. In addition, PBS will air a 90-minute "Events of the Day" version tomorrow night.
  2. You haven't watched the Travel Channel in a while, have you?
  3. An improvement! Let's see how long they keep it up.
  4. Annnnnd it got cut off because time was up. Gotta have those PBS funding messages, though.
  5. Watching now for the half-hour that's being simulcast on NHPBS right now.
  6. Think about it: There are employees at many of those radio stations and TV channels who have been preparing for this moment their entire careers.
  7. Now would be a really good time for BBC World News to be more easily available here in the states. On my cable system (Xfinity in southern NH), it's on a higher-price tier that I don't get. Meanwhile, BBC America is sticking to its regular programming, albeit with an occasional on-screen crawl that says something like "Buckingham Palace has made an important announcement. See BBC World News for more."
  8. I don't see any problem with this. There are casinos in Las Vegas that are open 24/7 and the town is known for its nightlife. Someone who works evenings, gets home well after midnight, and sleeps till early or mid-afternoon might actually want to watch the local news.
  9. No, there's another downside, though it's more of a hardware issue than anything: The streaming remote used to peruse those services often lack number buttons, effectively forcing you to use the program guide or flip from channel to channel just to get to the one you want to watch.
  10. We're probably getting off topic here, but I've been waiting for the contracting of linear cable television and the shedding of channels that aren't being watched, particularly among the multiplexers (HBO, Showtime, MTV, Nickelodeon, etc.) that have multiple flavors of themselves. I mean, do we really need several versions of MTV when there's often not enough new content to justify more than two?
  11. I'd say it depends on the station. "PIX 11" and "KTLA 5" work better than "The CW 11" and "The CW 5" because those stations were much more established independent of the network. The same would be true of WGN should it regain the affiliation. But it mid-tier or low-tier markets where the affiliate never had an identity outside of their affiliation? Probably not. Of course, it's entirely possible that Nexstar could up and change the network's name...
  12. I wonder if there will be a name change.
  13. So, is having one soap on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and the other soap on Tuesdays and Thursdays too complicated?
  14. What about the other two days?
  15. Other ideas: CBS New York News Now. CBS News York Now. CBS News Now York. Now CBS New York News. Now News New York CBS. Now New News York Now Now Now. Now Bedtime.
  16. So, while CNN proper was focused on its "The Fourth in America" special tonight, their live coverage of the Highland Park, IL, mass shooting was instead airing, for at least a little while, on HLN. That was a pleasant surprise. Rather conveniently, the coverage preempted an episode of Very Scary People.
  17. World Channel, which is available on most (but not all) PBS member stations, has been carrying the hearings.
  18. Whereas Paramount isn't leaving anytime soon.
  19. Since I'm sure the coverage was live in all time zones, what did network affiliates in the western time zones (Pacific, Mountain, Alaska, Hawaii) do for primetime?
  20. This is news to me. I would think National Amusements would be more interested in selling off its movie theaters.
  21. I would think they would go to P+, while the WB Discovery-owned shows would go to HBO Max. As for "The CW" as a name/branding, it'd probably be best to retire it and require the new owner to come up with their own name.
  22. I believe there's a saying for this: "If it bleeds, it leads." The fact that it bled five hours ago is apparently immaterial.
  23. There's always HLN, though she'd have to switch her focus to true crime.
