  1. In the Hampton Roads market, Nexstar owns WAVY (NBC) and WVBT (Fox) and Tegna owns WVEC (ABC). I have no idea how the three stations rate, but I'm guessing it's a more complicated situation than what could happen here in Hartford-New Haven.
  2. Is there proof that Skydance/New Paramount doesn't want CBS? I can see them selling off the O&O stations, but they might see the point in holding on to the network itself for a while. As for Nexstar being the only available buyer... well, I'll believe it when I see it.
  3. Good points. I hadn't considered the possibility that Nexstar and Tegna would find a way to make situations like this work. Also, as someone who believes we're eventually going to start seeing broadcast stations disappearing, Hartford-New Haven may actually prove to be an example what I expect to see in the next few years.
  4. Both companies have duopolies here in the Hartford-New Haven market (WTNH-WCTX and WTIC-WCCT), and I don't see a quadropoly happening.
  5. WSJ's paywall is notoriously hard to get around. Do you have a non-WSJ source?
  6. Or 4.1 or 59.9 depending on when the CBS and Fox affiliations are up for renewal.
  7. From the Hollywood Reporter's article about the deal (emphasis mine): Smart bank.
  8. For what it's worth, CBS also has a number of cbsnewsCITYORMARKETNAME.com domains, including cbsnewsatlanta.com. Some of them, such as cbsnewsboston.com, redirect to the livestream pages, while others such as cbsnewslosangeles.com and cbsnewsbaltimore.com, go to the homepages, so I suspect it's up to station management. I should also note that cbsnewstexas.com, cbsnewsdallas, com, and cbsnewsdfw.com all point to cbsnews,com/texas, That said, there are domains that CBS doesn't have but probably really should, such as cbsnewsla.com, cbsnewsny.com, cbsnewsnyc.com, and.... cbsnewschicago.com.
  9. WFOR? Probably hoping Skydance doesn't sell them to Nexstar (or worse).
  10. Rather conveniently, Llamas is actually from the Miami area, so this is likely a working vacation for him and NBC doesn't have to make up an official reason for his anchoring from there that doesn't mention ABC or WPLG.
  11. I wonder if anyone at WPLG noticed.
  12. So, it was on both stations?
  13. Having to air World News Now their last overnight as an affiliate is one thing, but having to also air Good Morning America First Look (which is basically an early morning show)? How'd that happen?
  14. If CBS pulls their affiliations from KIRO and WTSP, it'll put both Cox and Tegna in new territory as none of their existing independent stations (Cox has three, Tegna has five) are stand-alone.
  15. I imagine it wouldn't be all that hard to set things up in such a way that the time/temp bug is the last thing added -- after the point in the video chain where the recording is made.
  16. It wouldn't surprise me if the netlet's affiliation here moves from Tegna-owned WCCT to Nexstar-owned WCTX at some point in the not-too-distant future.
  17. Social media, yes, but also entertainment news websites. I myself check TV Insider, TVLine, Latenighter, io9, Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and others.
  18. Makes sense, though I hope KARE and WXIA aren't the only stations set up for this. (I can see KING and WFAA both also being available.)
  19. This is a bad thing?
  20. I was wondering that, too. Maybe it's because they're both 11s?
  21. Why does this give me the feeling no affiliates are going to preempt Comics Unleashed (Years Ago)?
  22. Minor question concerning WUPA: I noticed that it's on RF 36/virtual 69, while WATL, which is virtual 36, is on RF 25. Is there a reason for that arrangement? Or could the stations petition the FCC to allow them to swap RF positions at the time of the affiliation switch? And if so, could WUPA then move to virtual 25?
  23. ABC probably realized Kimmel was getting higher ratings. Also, have you seen Nightline lately? Episodes start with an opening teaser about stories that will be covered....and then immediately goes to the first break. WTF, ABC?
  24. My theory is that a lot of the non-writing staff for Meyers's show (camera operators, stagehands, cue card wielders) also work on SNL and thus have to work on Saturdays, so the doubling-up on Mondays is solely to allow them to have Tuesdays off.
  25. No one here is calling it "nothing more than a political hit job"; heck, we don't even know if Trump or someone in his (mis)administration pushed for it or if CBS and/or the Ellisons came up with the idea to help get the merger approved. But the timing is highly suspicious and the senators are right to ask questions. I'm guessing he's more interested in the studio and Paramount+. Maybe he's nostalgic for MTV and thinks he can make it great again. Under any normal (read: non-Trump) presidential administration, it would be a major scandal and, one would think, likely scuttle the merger. Alas...
