I like that they are wearing 9 pins. Reminds me of the Circle 7 pins the ABC affiliates used to wear. I think only KABC still does this

People watch this channel? So many stations and channels are suffering financially and this indie channel is still operating? Interesting.

Breaking : Hoda Kotb is stepping down as co-host of NBC Today https://x.com/NBCNews/status/1839280600861081919

Well one BIG HUGE DOWNGRADE is the size and look of the weather center. WHOA thats what jumped out at me immediately. ITS TINY. Oklahoma CIty is is Tornado Coverage. That typically means that the Weather Center is usually just as big or bigger than the news desk. The previousl Bob Mills Weather Center has behind the scenes area. Particuarly when there is a massive tornado outbreak there could be tons of people behind the weather desk. It looks fantastic and typcially during tornado coverage there are multiple people behind the weather desk USUALLY ive seen 4 people. THere are gonna be tight behind there. And it seems This is a downgrade.

She was at WBBM? Who knew. LOL. Wow missed that. She graduated from University in 2016 and was already in Chicago. That was fast to make it top 3 market and be gone already to a network..

CNNI is a shadow its former self. They let go or many walked anchors and reporter are gone. So anchor and reporting team is quite thin. All the major reporters and anchors are all gone. The dont have really many reporters in Africa. I dont know of anyone is South America. YOu never seen any reports from their. The Hong Kong Broadcast site is basically shuttered. Krisit Lee Stout is apparently still there but there is are not programmes presented from their. Andrew Stevens is gone. Its like a ghost town. Becky Anderson seems to be the only person in Abu Dhabi and there is only her programme that comes from there. And the channel has some original shows but alot of domestic simulcasts now. When a major story happens the International anchors are shelved in favour of the US domestic anchors. CNN is nothing like it was. WHo remembers THe WORLD TODAY and INTERNATIONAL HOUR. Alll the actual news hours are gone in favour or political talking head bobble-fests every hour. They were so stupid to shut down Headline News. Now you have 1 billion rolling news channels that stepped into that role. Like Scripps News and NewsNation. That was the dumbest move. They should have just reinstated the old school Headline News with the tight 30 minute wheel. "Around The World in 30 Minutes This is CNN HeadlIIIIINNNNE News." Al Jazeera English is the international heavyweight now. And the BBC of course. BUt they recently merged their 2 news channels into one channel and only when there is signification domestic news, the UK will opt-out to a domestic stream. SkyNews is a big international player. But they are sister to NBC.

WBBM has been a disaster for decades. The reporters they have are awful. Im sorry. There are some good young reporters that are good. But then you have some who are so sleepy and dead in their delivery its like watching paint dry. I do like the new weather people. But the anchor team is just plain awful. And sadly because everything is automated now. Its been stripped of any creatively in camera shots and graphics and music. Its terrible. Thats partially down to the News Director. I look at KCBS/KCAL and WCBS and they are far more livelier productions. WBBM is just s l e e p y for a market the size of Chicago. Its too many small market people bringing small market ideas. And now that Paramount Global is broke its not like they can afford to bring some top talent. Im not sure anything will ever help them climb out of the basement. SAD

I was thinking the same thing. Sky has very very very clean graphics. I will be interesting see. They are bring a decent studio team over from the UK and going to have a former correspondent return to be their "Steve Kornaki" analyst. It will be interesting to see an outside perspective. It seems that Sky and NBC are closer than they were sisters with Fox "News".
-
SkyNews announced they will be using the Meet The Press studio for their coverage of the US Election. We are starting to see NBC and Sky working closer and closer together. We are seeing with SkySports and NBC Sport collab on English Premier League coverage that just started recently with commentators appearing on both channels.

Ugh these corporate group graphics are becoming more and bland and boring. Geez. With the automated rundowns and lockdown cameras and bland samey theme music. Todays newscasts are BORING.

i hate HATE HATE VR sets. Is this the beginning of the end? I surely hope not. They are the norm in Germany and the've always looked like crap. Its just a cheap way to get out of building physical sets. Boring.

i know its local. But yeesh that Olympics set is.....something.

I felt bad for Kevin Jeanes because until Brant called in he was carrying the entire coverage. I dont under why they had Brant on the phone. Why cant they train him to dial in using Zoom, they audio at least would have been much better. Aisha probably was looking stuff up and doing behind the scenes stuff. But it wasnt good enough especially in a Top 5 market. Kevin literally asked her if she had anything new,, she said nope and threw it back to him. They need to show her the door along with quite a few people at Ch5. I only used to watch Ch5 exclusively but not anymore. The reporters and many of the anchors are not Top5 material. Its Mid Market level to me. I agree about Ch2. David and Mary Kay did a good job considering the barebones Weather Team. Still dont know why why got rid of the other guy. David is new to Chicagoland. YOu can tell he still has a lot to learn about Chicago terms. Like saying Chicagoland instead of "The Metro". I hate that term. Its for small cities like OKC and Omaha. Dont bring that "Metro" crap here. We are an entire region. But he is good. I like Mary Kay, but they really need to get a replacement here. This remote business is tiresome. PLus it just seems like Albert is never on tv when I turn it on. DOes he actually work there? WGN to me is not good. I just dont like their style of presenting breaking weather or their weather radar and tools. Either its zoomed out too far or microscopic levels or its covered in the lighting icons so yoou cant see anything. Or they are gving WAAAAY to much historical data which isnt appropriate in a breaking situation. WFLD is a mess. I dont remember who the Chief Met is. She seems nice and capable. But she kinda has a demeanor in her presentation style that I personally dont like. Its very-matter-of-fact. Or Id-rather-be-doing-something-else style. Its not my personal taste. Mark Strehl is typicall behind a screen and looks like a man stuck a in old fashioned phone booth. The whole thing needs to be revamped. All of the stations including Ch7 need to look at how OKC and Birmingham stations do rolling weather. Because the way the their weather computers are setup they cant even put up a live video behind the anchor on a green screen and have them point things out. Case in point, the Ohare Tornado cam video. What a mess.

They added the 4 red stars from the Chicago Flag to the logo. Ehhh. CBS NEWS Chicago.... Most people will still call it Channel 2. No matter what the networks do to try and brand local stations. People continue to say Channel___. Dont think its going to change anytime soon. Some quick-takes: Looks good. One glaring issue with the new set. Is the awful background noise. ITS VERY ECHOEY!!!!! Goodness. And there is a noticeable static noise when it goes from the studio to b-roll or live outside. Overall the studio audio is garbage. The lighting on the set is blasted with light. It washes out the video walls. Weather looks like crap with the lighting issues from the green screen. Channel 7 screens faces the windows and dont seem to have all those reflections from passing cars and lighting issues on the weather wall. There are definitely some technical issues that seemingly were UN-anticipated or yet to be fixed. I like the theme music when it premiered.......Now i find it incredibility repetitive and boring. Im sure there are some other cuts. KCAL uses a variety. Kinda boring low-res image down the Chicago River. I guess its better than the ugly river-level blurry images they used previously. Overall the production is VERY bland. Kinda yawn, sleepy production. You can tell its all computerized run-down and super simplified and dry, a Jennifer Lyons trademark. The boring graphics package doesnt help. Nice set. But ehh.

I kinda like it actually. I wish it were a bit brighter design. But it feels more faster paced. I not sure if this will work the entire day. But select hours across the schedule. Sure.

David Yeoman just revealed they are indeed moving back to the streetside studio on this Instagram stories. He called the current set their old studio. So we were thinking it was going to be a streaming studio or big weather set. Well it seems its going to be a new news studio and the whole operation is moving back down the hall https://www.instagram.com/davidyeomansweather/?hl=en

Susan LeMignon said: " thanks for being with us this weekend Kylee." So it sounds like a temporary arrangement. I didnt see alll her appearances. Was she at the desk? Or live from Detroit?
-
I hate this package. The way the theme music has been chopped up and abrubtly cut off on some or quickly turned off. It doesnt even feel like COX anymore. They were always still the best at news opens and the correct timings and flow of the opens with the music and graphics. There were never rushed and they always had proper opens. Not these rushed anchor introduced 2 second opens most stations use today. These are just awful. IMO complete downgrade.
-
they are almost entirely airing the CNNi feed anyway. CNNi is a shell of its former self. Most of the legacy anchors and reporters have left and its down to a few hours now. Zucker & Co really dropped the ball with CNNI and HLN. Focusing entirely on US politics have really destroyed CNN brand and IMO the other channels has been left to flounder and die and other channels have moved into their spaces. THere are loads of 24hr Streaming channels in the US that replaces what HLN used to do for decades. And CNN international has effectively been shelved and replaced with BBC and AJE. Sad Really. I dont think this bargain basement MAX effort will help do anything help them gain any traction. Its all just sad to watch this legacy channel flounder this way.

The set looks fantastic. Its the drab lighting plan that really lets it down and make the talent look flat. And the cold temperature/colour makes skin tones and wood tones look dead. I think this set would look great if they re-lit it. Its really goes to show a great set can look terrible if its lit badly. Goodness.

ABC changing their logo; New graphics coming for ABC owned stations
mouseboy33 replied to Briella's topic in Graphics
I think its a brilliant dynamic package. it might be a big much for older viewers to wrap their heads around. But I think its brilliant. Dont like the chopped together opening. I hate there is no music bed after the opening. It feel abrupt. Not sure about the cobble together opening theme. -
Id prefer him as a investigative reporter, so long as he's not in the anchor chair for the evening newscasts.

Watching the new CBS News Detroit premiere. I can imagine that things will be tweaked after this premiere and they see what works and what doesnt work. Im sure they will throw everything at the wall tonight. -Clunky version of the open -I like the open to the jib shot, but it was too long and it hovered too high instead of moving toward the center and transitioning to the centre presenter camera. -The camera blocking is strange for the right presenter. You get the strange white wall and part of window mullions. -Strange sound in the background - A/C noise is VERY VERY LOUD! VERY distracting. They need to sorta that out immediately. Seems like the noisy problem that occurs when all the presenter mics are hot. -Odd use of jib over to weather. Kinda of a plain looking weather corner, washed out graphics. Seems like the big CBS logo been seen all the way on the right wall behind the weather computers. Weather is done from a rolling screen against a white wall. You can see the screen cords plugged into the wall. (Looks messy) The sports anchor uses the screen in the greenroom as sort of an OTS. They turn on blue lights in the green room for the 6pm. - The centre camera shot is really nice. -The story selection is strange and nothing ground breaking so far. Lots of national stories off the top. A local story about football coach and then a Narcan vending machine story was presented live from a local university. The reporter had on a boat load CBS Detroit gear. -They did highlight the reporter that will cover a specific beat/region. Which i like. But then going into each break they keep telling you they are watching a specific community and they can watch CBS Detroit streaming. (gotcha) So far going into the first advert break....its kinda ehhh. -The transitions seem choppy. -Umm not getting the point of the sports stories sprinkled thru instead of the main sports bulletin usually toward the end of the broadcast. So far the "Detroit" stories is very very thin. Kinda expected them to have reporters live all over the place for the first outing. I know the they are still hiring but eek. They dont seem to have a full staff yet. - The presenters seem to be a capable bunch, they seem to fit a large diverse market such as Detroit. It has the largest Arabic/Muslim population in the US and a large black population amongst others. I have to say it could be an interesting enterprise. I was expecting a bit more newsroom movement, but it seems CBS didnt throw millions at the wall for this. I feel like this is more of down and dirty operation rather than being ultra flashy.
-
I hope they do something with the graphics. They are old and I think they need something more dynamic. Currently its very cluttered.

Keep in mind the newsroom wander was perfected at CITY-TV CityNews/CityPulse Toronto...starting in the early mid 80s
