1. NBC must of bought in bulk. Stations are getting these midlife refreshes. Some vary from small walls like at WRC and in the Wx center at WTVJ to huge installations at KXAS where they got a large wall behind the desk and a larger one on one wall (that didn’t have any displays).
2. Throwing this out there... https://twitter.com/jeremymbarr/status/1087038261216845824
3. One thing some shows need to do in my mind is to have a separate graphics package. In that five minute sample reel from WWL almost half used the standard TEGNA graphics. If they want viewers to know the difference they either need to create a custom package or highly modify the standard templates (like maybe a distinct background for the lower thirds). Additionally it would be best to come from a different set or a redresssed set area. See these examples from newly launched CA Live.
4. If they are moving lIve to a different station that makes me think that the contract is ending soon. As for what what you said even if they are getting hash Marks they are likely getting more money than running a syndicated show. Do these shows use regular news people or some hire specifically for the show? WMAR uses a separate host for Midday Maryland and I think WBFF uses a traffic anchor along with some one else.
5. Well hearing that their set was installed in the newsroom explains the one image I saw on social media where a corner of the newsroom was cornered off with stage curtains. But other images I saw it looked like the studio was in a regular room. I am intrigued as to what NBC plans on doing with some of the empty sound stages. They could probably divide it into two and have two decent size ones for both stations.
6. From the videos online it appeared they used the regular desk at 5pm. If I was a betting man I’d say they’re getting the LED wall. However isn’t there another place they could use temporarily like a newsroom desk?
7. I imagine they’ll stay on the weekend. NBC has been doing that with their First Look team the past year. They probably have the afternoons off and with no Sunday shows they probably can leave at 9AM. Willie Geist, Ayman Mohyeldin, Yasmin Vossoughian and Jose-Diaz Balart all do six day work weeks.
8. All very good points @Eat News. My opinion of them being conservative is the fact they mentioned they were shared by Drudge, Newt Gingrich and a Former Speaker of the House. To me it would have helped their case if they mentioned other outlets that have shared their content. In addition to the comments/followers/favorites/likes their reporters and photojournalists have made on social media. Also, they made an appearance on The Ingraham Angle.
9. The only thing I can’t get past is CNN requesting a package from KUSI a station known with a conservative bent. When there’s breaking news in San Diego who do they most likely turn to? I’m betting KFMB or KGTV for immediate reports on the ground. Maybe KUSI for images. To be fair the CNN ditched the AP as a source years ago. Many large news organizations have developed their style guides such as the BBC. Reuter’s unsurprisingly has their own online. I’m sure many others have their own.
10. Yeah NewscastStudio confirmed it was above homebase so the windowed portion. They briefly showed the exterior and the upstairs portion has white walls facing the windows.
11. This one line may not help KUSI’s objective reporting: It did seem some what political (from a liberal perspective) And since when did CNN air packages direct from stations unless intended for NewsSource? Edit: Also it’s possible CNN wanted not only reports from the boots on the ground but vox pops of those affected.
12. Had no issues here: https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/tv/trump-tongue-trick-lands-seattle-tv-station-q13-fox-in-hot-water/ Completely uncacceptable.
13. It appears the upstairs studio of Today (the set with the corner shelves and LCD windows) has been converted to videowalls meeting in the corner.
14. Think it’s safe to say just for WMUR. All other stations got Diagrid 2.0.
15. Definitely not worth its own thread but it appears the WMUR graphics package is called RINGS according to this one post on Vimeo from a hub designer.
16. Any idea what News 4 Now is?
17. Interesting they point out antenna and other options are available. Something that may shooting themselves in the foot.
18. I’m thinking they may have been on a common press riser and not a set like NBC or ABC had. If it’s a common press riser I can see he reasons why such as poking someone’s eyes out. But I noticed they were fine with NBC using umbrellas when Chrissy Teigan and Leslie Jones we’re out in the crowds, Leslie was using a large black NBC News umbrellla. The NBC News umbrella was black and you could see the peacock and NBC but News was dark. The way News appeared it made me think someone made a mistake ordering black umbrellas.
19. I’m betting New Years Eve coverage. They could be a pool feed - you don’t want too many helicopters flying over a space where fireworks are shooting off. The Times Square Alliance always provides a feed of festivities, sights, sounds and performances.,
20. A while back I posted a thread (that seems to have disappeared) about my father being interviewed by Discovery Channel Canada for the show Disasters at Sea. He was interviewed about his role as a USCG (he’s a civilian) investigator on the sinking of the factory fishing ship the FV Alaska Ranger where 47 people on the ship were rescued and sadly five died. The show airs on the Smithsonian Channel in the US on February 17, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Edit: I found the original post.
21. Wonder what the context of “pauses” was used.
22. Maybe I missed the post but I’m surprised @ColDayNews news didn’t mention it here or on discord. WCMH was evacuated Friday morning after someone called the assignment desk saying there were pipe bombs throughout the building. Nothing was found but they were evacuated and master control was fed from WDTN. Management ordered that there be no coverage in order to prevent copy cats https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/12/23/bomb-threat-at-columbus-station.
23. So KNXV got a new studio robot. It’s from MrMoco and has a large area (in gaffer tape on the floor) where you can’t go near it. I assume this replaces a tracked camera they had. Put a scalpel on it and it could do surgery. It actually comes in a tracked version as well. It also looks like they replaced their manual pedestals with CamBots.
24. I’m not sure if this is related to the move but WCAU and WWSI (as they share channels) were off air from about 8 to 9:30 pm. According to the AP a receptionist said they were working on it. The disruption occurred during the series finale of Timeless. https://tvnewscheck.com/article/more-news/227365/wcau-back-air-power-outage/
25. Yes, but if you’re on DCRTV you’d think not. They complain about old stories being read or being late to report or using audio clips from the TV side. They may not be #1 (out of all stations) but I think they’re doing well. Even during a driving live shot a year back on holiday travel on CBS This Morning I saw the radio was tuned to WIYY in Northern Virginia .
