So this popped up on my Instagram timeline again. A journalist at WCAU saw this picture of a monkey on. One of the outside sources. Turns out it came from a switcher test video out of 30 Rock that was sent over satellite (and for some reason they received it and put it as a MW source).

A commenter on DCRTV was wondering if Cox shuttered it’s DC Bureau in advance of the sale. Can anyone in Cox markets provide insight?

Bombed badly on WEWS or in general. The numbers locally seem to do well. Praise the font gods that Bank Gothic has been removed from many of the Hearst station logos. It was good the 90s and early aughts and conveyed some sense of urgency. But like anything it gets dated. I didn’t realize how bad the font was in hindsight when I read an article about the Baltimore Ravens put up one of Michael Phelps’ medal wins after a 2008 preseason game. Versus how it it appeared on the RavensVision boards in 2016: Back to the topic at hand here’s an article about how TV consultants work. Not only do they to focus groups they analyze the Nielsen ratings to what type of story gets the most eyeballs. Isn’t SNL Kagan the big TV consulting firm. There’s also a guy whose name I can’t remember who was involved with WSVN’s branding and now has a career in consulting.

Massive trolling would be putting a Russian flag outfront.
-
I’ve thought of planting a pride flag outfront or maybe a sign for the Democratic Governor on the public area. Also the big satellite truck based on its license plate is atleast new as they have license plates that weren’t revealed until September 2016.

Decided to drive around the Sinclair HQ today to see what’s back there. I would have gotten out of the car but there were way too many people in the parking lot at 10:30 AM. The satellite dishes are getting a wash down. A huge satellite truck. Looked relatively new. The satellite farm was getting mowed. Their helipad. Their ATSC 3.0 Test vehicle. Looks like a live truck with a mast but has a regular receiver antenna and for some reason a camera.

She seems to be moving down the NBC DMA totem pole. First DMA #4, then #7, and now #28. She must still be in good standing at NBC to keep moving within the company but the downward trend is puzzling. Maybe she’s married to someone who moves or got a job as Chief Meteorologist or better hours. Also, based on Keith Jones posts mentioning a couple of weeks for the move makes me think they’re waiting for the fall season. This major move is something that I would assume that they would promote for a while.

So that leaves what KYW the only one without a 4?

KGO anchor Natasha Zouves will be out til December after suffering a slip and fall at the station on some shampoo that was on the set floor. Which begs the question what was shampoo doing in the studio? I hope she gets better soon. I wonder what happened a sever concussion or a cracked skull? https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/8/29/slip-and-fall
@ns8401 @EatNews Could both of you stop puffing out your chests, acting like a couple tough guys? Thanks.
And of course I added to it.

You’d swim.

I’m betting it’s contractual/union issues preventing them from using the existing evening news anchors.
-
It does seem like that.

According to their website they need a ND for Pittsburgh and AND for LA and Philly.

I need to check but I think FTVLivea tweet earlier in the thread said it came from the Fox News building. I’m not sure but I assume the weather graphics could be loaded easily or already available for Fox News reporters who file reports for stations. Sometimes weather computers handle chroma keying internally and have the ability to choose router sources. The weather computer if it was set up to handle keying internally could easily select the correct camera and output the right program. Assuming the cameras and the distribution system were still up they could easily send it back to Fox HQ.

Or know no knows how to use it because we fired all the TDS and experienced staff. Edit: Also this breakdown must have been known well ahead of time in order for Shep to be in and the Fox crew to build the show. What I don’t understand is if they knew ahead of time why didn’t they have their anchors presenting from the Fox News studio?

WBAL seems to make it work on MeTV enough to do a 10PM newscast 7 Days a week. They’ve done weekday 10PM newscasts since March 2012 and on weekends going back to at least March 2016. They did do a 7AM newscast in 2011 that lasted until 2015 when it was exchanged in favor of a 4:30AM newscast on the main channel - from what I understood the cancellation may have been contractual (the success of the 7AM show led them to create the 10pm). They also heavily promote the 10PM newscast in their 5PM show and in ads through out the day. From what I understand the 10PM is very competitive with WBFF’s 10PM newscast. Also it helps that atleast in 2016 that WBAL was the highest rated MeTV affiliate.

Probably no legal advice. I thought in these situations lawyers will sit in on the interview. She probably wanted a free trip to NYC.

That young woman should have thought clearly before going on TV. She admitted to doing it and if an charges are brought or a lawsuit she can’t plea innocence.

That’s surprising to hear that they didn’t tell stations the ticker would change (or they didn’t know). The stations would have been told in advance to either change the software that inserts the time/temp or to load files. Since ABC doesn’t have a standard ticker cover/template I assume it leaves stations their own devices and hardware (I don’t know if the trigger for the time and temp is easily patched to the CG). Where as Today and CBS TM use the samehardware but different name (NameDropper HD and LIDIA, respectively) where there’s a much more uniform look. Also the ticker placement seems way too low and out of the 16:9 safe zone. I imagine it’s near the bottom frame of HDTVs screens if a person doesn’t have overscan turned off.

Brian West of KPNX was arrested. He always seemed to have the fun morning stories. The station shared his social media on Instagram so I followed him. Anyway the past day or rework he or a friend were turning thirty and they were partying. I bet it was related to that. http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/8/10/sobbing-tegna-reporter-busted-by-cops

They could do. It. Have Savannah ditch the 8:30 half hour to do the 9AM hour.
-
Worth noting that’s likely because of bandwidth. WCWG shares spectrum WXII. They’re running two 1080i and two 480i channels
-
Thanks for the info. Do they use other views?
-
It’s similar to the WNBC background view. I always thought 30 Rock was the only building tall enough for that point of view/angle. I would assume NBC would have exclusive rights to live cameras on the building.
