1. I regularly watch the 11th Hour and don’t think Brian Williams is bitter. He certainly was humbled but he still has the same personality on air.
2. Thanks. I was curious as I don’t think I’ve ever really seen the actual area from where the picture was taken. It looks like that area was also cannibalized as a work space as well. From what I’ve seen some of the Telemundo 62 Weather prep work goes on down there as well.
3. Does the actual weather set ever make it on air? Because it looks like a hot mess (a term I don’t really use) Also if I was working at the desk in front of that little PTZ camera it would have paper taped over it. I know people are in the TV business to be scene but I don’t need any to see me working up close.
4. KCBS/KCAL anchor/reporter Andrea Fujii is leaving the duopoly and heading east to be with her husband Whit. Also, today was Eric Harrymans last day at WTVJ he’s heading west. His IG that his coanchor linked to mentioned KTXL Fox 40 anchor in Sacramento.
5. I think they are also setting up the heir apparent for Stan as well. He’s probably the same age or older as Donna but may stick around. They are definitely grooming Andre for his spot as he anchors the 5:30pm with Donna and is the primary fill in. I believe there have been more newscasts with Debra/Andre in the past two months than I have fingers/toes on the primary channel. I know some mentioned Mindy as Donna’s replacement but I don’t think they want to mess with the morning show. I believe they win most half hours except for one. Also at this point I think Jason and Mindy are a paired duo. Yet despite the changes they remained dominant.
6. Donna Hamilton’s been off the either all or part of last week and so far this week. Deborah Weiner has been the only one filling in. I think it may be safe to say she’s the heir apparent. You also could say she deserves it - she did weekends, now does the 10 PM, was the main anchor WBFF for five years (her bio lists starting their 1997 and joining WBAL in 2002, and has been with them for 16 years. Also despite WJZ loosing baseball to MASN they are still doing a one hour opening day special starting at 12:30 pm. The games are still on WJZ-FM 105.7.
7. Maybe they made the price exhorbanant to keep it all in house. The Nationals are now MASN only as well. Edit: Sounds like the decision was made by MASN. And we have a quote from our Helvetica Chief KC. http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/tv/z-on-tv-blog/bs-fe-zontv-orioles-masn-wjz-20180327-story.html
8. I like it. They use 1A. Maybe they are getting a new one with the renovations going on.
9. Slight mistake on the 4PM Special Report. Instead of the standard peacock the rotating Nightly News bug played out for about 50 seconds before switching to the correct one. Now does anyone know if the bug is inserted by the 1A control room or NBC’s NOC? For what it’s worth during Today the rotating logo bug and peacock isn’t inserted (or atleast seen on the switcher program monitor). If you’ve ever seen a BTS picture that area is absent.
10. One interesting case was WNBC pulled recently (and several times) WRC’s helicopter reporter.
11. Worth noting that despite the brand new Telemundo Center Headquarters the NBC Network Bureau will remain in their current location. They are in some non descript office building.
12. Oh my god. I didn't read the article about the incident. I thought this went off into random territory.
13. I prefer Bubba Kegs. They stay cool or hot very long. Frequently ice will last over 24 hours.
14. It makes sense and I was wondering why he wasn’t included in the recent Super Bowl promo with the full anchor team. And explains the anchor/reporter opening.
15. Well this is a surprise. Adam May is leaving Baltimore to his hometown of Minneapolis for corporate communications and a better work schedule for him and his family. He rejoined Baltimore news in October 2016 after Al Jazeera America closed. Before that he was at WJZ. http://www.baltimoresun.com/entertainment/tv/z-on-tv-blog/bs-fe-zontv-adam-may-wbal-20180314-story.html
16. Probably been there forever. You said executive right? Sounds like EPs.
17. Somehow WMAR has been saved from The Now. Syndicated fair in prime access includes The List and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. During the day part they have The Doctors, Rachel Ray, pay to play Midday Maryland, RightThisMinute, Pickler & Ben and Harry. While not top quality syndicated shows they haven’t given WMAR a complete death wish while they still pushed most of their produced programming on WMAR. I imagine if they put The Now instead of Harry at 4PM as the lead in for the 5PM news WMAR would be in worst shape. Are there any other Scripps (save for possible Journal) stations not clearing The Now?
18. That’s sad to hear especially the loss of technical positions. Were the positions specifically in the production unit or included possible automation for Un Nuevo Dia, Al Rojo Vivo and Noticiero Telemundo? I am not sure about bilingual actors I imagine native bilingual journalists could be a differentiator in a job application for dual language duopolies (which of course is NBC/Telemundo). I wonder if they are paid more? I’ve noticed some photogs in Chicago and Boston swap back and forth between WMAQ/WSNS and WBTS/WNEU. NBC has been sharing lately - I forget the woman’s name - and in their coverage of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. Also at the end of Telemundo’s superseries they have the Telemundo endcap along with Getty Hispanic. I can only find information about their stock / news images in Latin America. Could Getty be used just to set the scene?
19. But if the stations had the choice they likely wouldn’t choose it. Thereby making it useless. Plus Scripps isn’t exactly investing in high priced syndicated programming.
20. Yes but those are special high profile events. This is an essentially local only project.
21. One thing I’ve noticed with TEGNA is not afraid to send their reporters on long stories. Mike Valerio of WUSA was on a 24 hour flight to Tarawa, a remote pacific island, on bringing buried WWII soldiers home. It’s not his first trip there either. I think he’s made two others. Apparently he’s their chief International investigative journalist.
22. And the gripping motion. It’s like they are squeezing a stress ball.
23. Here’s the playlist.
