1. Wasn’t insinuating it. Just asking a question.
2. Since there isn’t a dedicate WSNS thread did they get the same weather center as WMAQ or is this promo just filmed in the WMAQ studios. It appears about 11 seconds in.
3. A TV on a stand doesn’t do much. Seems like work is being done but they may not have the space to relocate. I imagine that corner is going to get one of the 90° corner video walls like WBTS and WRC have.
4. Was the stand up area in the corner to the viewer right of the desk? I also thought they had a monitor wall directly next to the weather center but it’s been covered by a chroma key wall.
5. Always worth noting that many cable companies have pages notifying consumers of upcoming contract renewals. Here’s the one for Comcast. Edit: Here’s Verizon Fios’s,
6. Maybe they are getting ready for a significant presence in Minneapolis? WCAU has their morning, evening and other anchors on site.
7. Steve Sosna has a similar step up. He was an EP and sometime on air meteorologist now in Philly.
8. I imagine there are more for the Olympics. They were invited for that sole reason. On one of the reports they were told that they couldn’t record and requested that footage be deleted but continued to do so anyway. How exactly would they get around that? I thought I read that some cameras had a mode where you could hide that your recording (no lights or anything) but what about the files?
9. True. But who would turn down the chance to host the such a historical show with a much larger audience? Right now she’s essentially a network syndicated show competing against Live in a good portion of the country. Also her reasoning (that seemed to be repeated frequently) was for better hours and being home for her kids when they come home from school and have dinner like a family. Right now I imagine she leaves pretty early and I doubt she isn’t out the door by 6:00 AM to get there atleast two hours before the show starts and does her duties plugging it in the 8:00AM hour. Chances are her kids arent up by then. (I’m assuming the time she gets up and leaves as the regular Today hosts say their clocks are set around 3:30 and 4:00AM and in around 5AM).
10. What sorts of restrictions would apply to NBC 10s Lincoln Financial Field’s camera - I assume they can’t use it during games but would it apply to pre and post game shows?
11. The fact they essentially mimicked the home base setup (same desk and video walls with columns) made it look like they didn’t really move. Then the backlit walls with those peacock prints don’t help. It would probably have looked better if they went in a route similar to the side diffused LED walls that KNBC has. They are at a resolution where you can make out the movement and know what it is but not too high where it becomes distracting.
12.
Holy bleep. I can't believe I'm saying this but... PBS is back in Puerto Rico! For those who don't know, WMTJ Channel 40 was taken off air due to Hurricane Maria and went off-air forever. However, according to Wikipedia, on Wednesday, December 20th, WMTJ returned to the air via Liberty Puerto Rico (a cable provider there) and some of PBS' programming was seen on Channels 3 and 67 and in HD on channels 203 and 267. On Monday, January 2nd, just months after the supposed farewell to the station, WMTJ actually resumed regular over-the-air broadcasting operations via WSTE-DT (Teleisla) and can be seen on the same channel 40.1 from the transmitter located in Aguas Buenas. In other words, that transmitter is now home to both WSTE and WMTJ, even though they broadcast on different digital channels (WSTE is 7 and WMTJ is 16 but is moving to 15). So yes, PBS is back in Puerto Rico. Wonderful news for a country still reeling from Hurricane Maria. DISCLAIMER: I'm half Puerto Rican so I had to share this and this is wonderful news for public broadcasting.
That’s a good thing. With things get back to a somewhat sense of normalcy. David Begnaud has been posting statistics. I think most of the island has clean water and per this tweet they are back up to generating 85% of electricity but only 65% has service. Additionally, WMTJ likely needed to get back on the air ASAP so their license won’t be revoked (after 1 year it’s cancelled). Although I am guessing FCC is likely to bend the rules given the scope of the disaster. WMTJ and 70 other TV stations have been granted a special temporary authority, per a press release that went out Friday January 19 at 11AM. I don’t know what the legalities may be with them broadcasting from WSTE in regards to them keeping their license in the long run - maybe @Thundershock MN knows. I’m putting out a wild guess that the transmissions on WSTE will not count unless they set up a channel sharing arrangement. Currently there appears to be no mention of a future channel sharing arrangement on the FCC website. You can search here (enter WSTE or WMTJ as calls) and see that there’s nothing regarding a future CSA.
13. I was speaking with my mother about the article and she told me “if NBC was so sure about Megyn they would have given her the co anchor position.” Which is interesting - they’re paying her all this money and not using her fully.
14. Looks like there’s a lot of drama over at Megyn Kelly Today. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5285585/Fired-Megyn-Kelly-staffer-rife-bullying.html?utm_source=CNN+Media%3A+Reliable+Sources&utm_campaign=3ec50a592d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2017_06_06&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_e95cdc16a9-3ec50a592d-81553349#ixzz54aBlrqMB
15. Maybe. But when she was on SHE was the show much like when she left Matt became the show. I’m sure if she didn’t like Matt she could have gotten him fired. Plus Matt was the new guy there and likely hid his chauvinistic ways to those under him.
16. I’m guessing part of it has to do with Meredith still being employed with or on retainer of NBC News.
17. If someone files a complaint.
18. I wrote this post over at TVForum: I picture this as an intermediary open. February sweeps and the Olympics are coming up so change maybe on the horizon. They’ve had the current graphics since September 2013 with a few tweaks here and there - probably the biggest was when they stopped shooting for the 4:3 safezone and set the AFD flag to letterbox it in SD. However it’s not the worst design decision they had in the past decade:
19. Isn’t it somewhat common for people to visit sister stations or those unrelated to their own when on vacation especially if you have friends working there? If your on Instagram you’ll see plenty of visits to other stations while on vacation - usually to see old friends. Could it be as simple as someone at KCBS/KCAL heard she was there visiting from their sister station, heard about the promotion and wanted to talk?
20. I was kind of surprised when Page Six said Hoda was making as much as Savannah -$7 million. When she renewed her contract early at the end of 2016 Deadline and other sources reported it was close to $20 million. Somewhere else it was reported that Meredith’s salary was $12 million.
21. A fire alarm knocked ITV News at Ten (which is produced by ITN) off air. They apparently stayed on for a few minutes until a package ended and Tom Bradby explained that they were going to evacuate and may be back. ITV put up their break down slide and left the building. Unfortunately they were not able to get back into the building in time to finish the broadcast. ITV London’s nightly newscast, which are also produced by ITN in the same studio, did not make it to air. Instead an adjacent region, ITV Meridian, was piped in and broadcast to London viewers.
22. Doesn’t the station typically run newscasts at that time? I thought the breaks are triggered by the station while they were live (either played out locally or via a trigger or command to Colorado).
23. Yes. Hopefully your TRT is MM:SS and that’s 16 seconds too much. Unless it’s clips of foot in mouth segments like when she said to guy on Will and Grace that you became a lawyer and became gay or harassing Jane Fonda about plastic surgery.
24. What’s the guys name? You should submit it to @abc7error on twitter. You should see the number of screw up at the mouse in the #2 market.
