1. Now we need to see how long it’s kept after the election.
2. They have a proprietary network of radars in addition to the national weather service. I’m assuming they mean KXAS’ Big S Radar and TX Thunder Truck when deployed. I know the data’s shared with the sister stations across the country.
3. Also Lindsay Czarniak will be in Vegas with Pat Collins for Thursday’s Stanley Cup game. According to DCRTV their new sports anchor hasn’t been seen lately.
4. He should be able to change it. Very rarely I’ve seen people “surrender” their accounts when leaving or starting a new job. The only issue is when you change your name where I believe you have to be re-verified. It’s a way fans will be able to connect with him and new viewers to see his past work. In a sense I wish they wouldn’t insist on branded accounts maybe generic one with news or tv at the end.
5. WDSU’s Scott Walker is leaving. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1922677691087851
6. Someone over at TVForum wrote this about the deaths of WYFF’s Aaron Smeltzer and Mike McMcCormick and my response. I see what your saying. But what about BBC, ITV or Sky News covering storm? I imagine sometimes they are on a deadline working in their car.
7. I know networks can request stations uplink footage or perhaps cover a press conference. But can they request them to deploy their helicopter or drone for coverage? I assume they’d be reimbursed. I’m thinking of situations such as holiday weekend travel. Say your news helicopter is only up in the morning until 7AM but your in one of the areas where there are backups and the network wants live footage through out their show - maybe until 8AM. Is that reimbursable.
8. Also before there really wasn’t the graphics engine or monitor wall capabilities to handle such high resolutions. So you would get pixelation as well.
9. They are a lot brighter than rear projection. These are LED screens where each panel is probably 27 inches diagonal. But unlike LCD or LED backlit LCD screens these allow for seamless appearance. Before they were cost prohibitive and you could make out individual pixels and resolution sucked. Now if you shoot to close to them you can make out pixels. It’s basically the same technology stadium screens use.
10. Has WMAQ gotten their own Storm Ranger? This post makes it seems like they did. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1332537636848467 Is this what your talking about? Kind of like a reverse Diagrid 1.0 and 2.0.
11. Their sister station got a seamless backdrop too. It replaces a 5x2video wall.
12. KXAS got a new seamless LED video wall. Appears to be opposite the weather center and will be used for weather and traffic in the mornings. If I’m not mistaken when they installed the one behind the anchor desk they moved it into a similar position? https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=1686492588098590 Posting this here as it’s not worth a thread.
13. Jason Guy - WESH’s news anchor and former Big Brother contestant had vocal cord surgery. He had a growth on the right vocal cord causing hoarseness. They believe it’s nothing harmful but they will biopsy it anyway.
14. KOCO got a newer helicopter (built 2004).
15. I just realized that WMAR 2’s rebranding may be related to WBAL and WJZ now using their call signs prominently. WJZ always used their calls during the Eyewitness News era when tagging out but now it’s just WJZ News. Similarly WBAL tags out “WBAL-TV 11”. Additionally they all now brand their weather as “Callsign Weather”.
16. Lester Holt and Maria Bartaromo were mentioned in Muellers list of questions. What Mueller Wants to Ask Trump About Obstruction, and What It Means https://nyti.ms/2FsWW8o
17. It’s the night before the WHCD. He could be traveling to DC.
18. I don’t follow Kansas City news that much.
19. Since we are speculation posting I’d to see WBAL duopoly with WMAR. I think theyre eligible to be purchased rating wise. Hearst has experience with a pseudo NBC/ABC duopoly in KSBW.
20. Bumping this thread because starting next week Jeff Glor will anchor the 5PM show on CBS Radio. Found out via a post on his Instagram.
21. Supposedly one tower worker was killed. The station was part of phase 1of the spectrum repack.
22. I would like to see a comparison of political ad buys on a local non primetime level. Would a local newscast have the same number of political ads as syndicated fair?
