1. This one line may not help KUSI’s objective reporting: It did seem some what political (from a liberal perspective) And since when did CNN air packages direct from stations unless intended for NewsSource? Edit: Also it’s possible CNN wanted not only reports from the boots on the ground but vox pops of those affected.
2. Had no issues here: https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/tv/trump-tongue-trick-lands-seattle-tv-station-q13-fox-in-hot-water/ Completely uncacceptable.
3. It appears the upstairs studio of Today (the set with the corner shelves and LCD windows) has been converted to videowalls meeting in the corner.
4. Think it’s safe to say just for WMUR. All other stations got Diagrid 2.0.
5. Definitely not worth its own thread but it appears the WMUR graphics package is called RINGS according to this one post on Vimeo from a hub designer.
6. Interesting they point out antenna and other options are available. Something that may shooting themselves in the foot.
7. I’m thinking they may have been on a common press riser and not a set like NBC or ABC had. If it’s a common press riser I can see he reasons why such as poking someone’s eyes out. But I noticed they were fine with NBC using umbrellas when Chrissy Teigan and Leslie Jones we’re out in the crowds, Leslie was using a large black NBC News umbrellla. The NBC News umbrella was black and you could see the peacock and NBC but News was dark. The way News appeared it made me think someone made a mistake ordering black umbrellas.
8. I didn’t originally did want to comment about the lack of generator seen in this post [(but since you brought it up): I’d assume a generator would normally go where power and gas normally enter building which looks like it’s right where those bollards are. And doesn’t the building look like it’s an old converted garage? Just the side we’ve seen looks like there were four bays based on how they aren’t flush with the further most part of the wall. He had to have known people especially Scott or others would look on Facebook. Shame Facebook got rid of the feature on how your profile appears to other users and anonymous guests. Could have saved him some trouble - not even two days on the job and criticized by Scott. That has to be a record.
9. I’m betting New Years Eve coverage. They could be a pool feed - you don’t want too many helicopters flying over a space where fireworks are shooting off. The Times Square Alliance always provides a feed of festivities, sights, sounds and performances.,
10. A while back I posted a thread (that seems to have disappeared) about my father being interviewed by Discovery Channel Canada for the show Disasters at Sea. He was interviewed about his role as a USCG (he’s a civilian) investigator on the sinking of the factory fishing ship the FV Alaska Ranger where 47 people on the ship were rescued and sadly five died. The show airs on the Smithsonian Channel in the US on February 17, 2019 at 9 p.m. ET/PT Edit: I found the original post.
11. Wonder what the context of “pauses” was used.
12. Maybe I missed the post but I’m surprised @ColDayNews news didn’t mention it here or on discord. WCMH was evacuated Friday morning after someone called the assignment desk saying there were pipe bombs throughout the building. Nothing was found but they were evacuated and master control was fed from WDTN. Management ordered that there be no coverage in order to prevent copy cats https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/12/23/bomb-threat-at-columbus-station.
13. So KNXV got a new studio robot. It’s from MrMoco and has a large area (in gaffer tape on the floor) where you can’t go near it. I assume this replaces a tracked camera they had. Put a scalpel on it and it could do surgery. It actually comes in a tracked version as well. It also looks like they replaced their manual pedestals with CamBots.
14. I’m not sure if this is related to the move but WCAU and WWSI (as they share channels) were off air from about 8 to 9:30 pm. According to the AP a receptionist said they were working on it. The disruption occurred during the series finale of Timeless. https://tvnewscheck.com/article/more-news/227365/wcau-back-air-power-outage/
15. Yes, but if you’re on DCRTV you’d think not. They complain about old stories being read or being late to report or using audio clips from the TV side. They may not be #1 (out of all stations) but I think they’re doing well. Even during a driving live shot a year back on holiday travel on CBS This Morning I saw the radio was tuned to WIYY in Northern Virginia .
16. Well this is Radio News but since it’s related to TV WBAL-AM has bought a low power FM translator, W268BA-FM, at 250 watts to fill in some coverage gaps. The radio station also is simulcast on 97.9 HD2. Image courtesy of Radio-Locator.com Just because of this I’m guessing Hearst isn’t ready to get out of Radio anytime soon.
17. I imagine it’s likely because they’ll get hash marks against the morning shows, KTLA and Good Day.
18. When CBS announced this their plan is to expand them into their “major markets” and a KCBS/KCAL one was being developed. That being said KCBS / KCAL already produce a ton of news. I could see them doing the 7 a.m. broadcast but not the 1 p.m. I’m basing this on the WCBS hours it seems like they want to do shows where there’s not a nearby newscast (save for 7AM which makes sense as an extension for morning people) . If that’s their plan then a 1PM streaming newscast wouldn’t make sense as KCBS is on from 11 to 11:30 a.m. and KCAL from 12 to 1 p.m. I am curious as to how they define “major markets” whether it’s their top 10 or top 20. Let’s just say I don’t see them launching on KOVR, KDKA or WJZ (DMAs 20, 24 and 26, respectively) anytime soon.
19. Does anyone know how many people behind the scenes there are for a show? I don’t see CBS hiring or keeping extra people on the clock for a webcast. With that said I’m curious if the existing automated control room they use is setup where one person could truly do the entire show? It appears that they are running their own prompter.
20. Looks awkward during simulcasts. I suppose they can’t take the clean PCR output (of course all stations could be different) and insert a custom bug? The regular graphics are a TEGNA ripoff.
21. Well she’s 65 - retirement age. She probably has more than enough money to retired extremely comfortably. From what I understand she lives in Greenwich, CT which is about an hour away from NYC. Although I think they provide a driver she still would be getting up early to get to the city and ready for the show. I imagine this is exhausting. Now she has more time to do here passion projects the films and plays she writes.
22. Since Univision is a launch network this makes how many diginets the average Univision station carries? And is this initially pay for carriage diginet network, retransmission consent or barter deal?
23. Here’s a interesting article from the NY Post. They’re alleging that Les Moonves is considering suing CBS about the leaks of information. The article says that even though the leaks may expose CBS to a lawsuit from Les, CBS (either CBS or the board or a board member or Shari Redstone) they’d risk it to “boost the network’s case in the court of public opinion even as may end up complicating the network’s case of the court of law.” Also worth noting that one of the law firms handling the case is in the same building where The New York Timesmare headquartered m
24. To be honest four or even one weeks notice is enough time to get the weeknight team in, provided they aren’t on vacation. If a station can get them in unscheduled on say a Saturday if there’s major breaking news I don’t see how four weeks makes it harder.
