  1. Phil will be in for Tracy tomorrow, but I'm sure Cheryl will have a few fill-ins next week.
  2. Hehehehehehe... Corrected.
  3. Cheryl is in-studio tonight, but not on the air. Based on some Instagram photos, the weather team is now taping a forecast that is on the jumbotron during Bulls games, she probably taped some promo shots, and this final pic shows their set-up for filming that talent opens. I would be surprised if Dionne, Terrell, and maybe even Troy filmed today/tonight. http://instagram.com/p/wxA2m3nsxI/
  4. We tossed it around back in September, but never really got an answer. Based on several instances in the last few weeks, Dina Bair is Micah's main fill-in on the 'Evening News' on most days, with Julie Unruh backing up at nine.
  5. Hey, remember when I said this? You know, just yesterday... Well... http://deadspin.com/chicago-sports-anchor-to-bears-drop-jay-cutler-or-kil-1672193269 Long story short, a few people got their panties in a bunch, and he apologized, but just about everyone online doesn't think he did anything really bad. And, by Giangreco standards, this was nothing.
  6. Here y'all go. Full album of the updated graphics, fresh off the presses... http://forums.tvnewstalk.net/index.php?/gallery/album/66-wmaq-2014/
  7. For some reason I can't get the damn video tools to disappear when I go full-screen. Maybe it's a them issue, and not a me issue. Either way, whatever...
  8. To anyone watching in hi-def, is the logo in the bug a little pixelated and almost fuzzy-edged? It is for me, and that's something that wasn't an issue with the old one, or on any of the other stations.
  9. WHY CAN'T THE OPENS HAVE MOVING IMAGES??? Also, why does a bunch of stuff happen in Chicago when I sleep til 1:30? Oh, and the syndie bug is now off the edges, too.
  10. So, for shits and giggles, I've been trying to get a decent screen grab of every anchor team at channel 7. Yeah, it's odd, so sue me. Anyway, I'm trying to only get caps that look halfway decent, and a weird facial expression kills it, but I captured this gem last week. Getting TWO funny faces is an even bigger accomplishment than my original idea.
  11. I love how anticlimactic it was. He didn't swear or goof around, he just started over and moved on like a pro. I'm sure he's picked up a few tips over the years from 'Running Nose' Ron... [yt]XQDzzdTKcLk?t=14s[/yt]
  12. See, I don't know that Tracy or Phil would have a problem with Mike being declared chief, but the rumor is that Cheryl will be given the title. And, you're right. I don't see anyone getting fired, either. I have a feeling management is anticipating someone resigning. I still have my theory that ABC 7 can pay Cheryl and give the other 3 a healthy raise to make up for the passover and still spend less than the most recent arrangement (Taft, Caplan, Butler & Schwarz). Plus, a PR disaster is avoided by paying them off.
  13. Now that you mention it, yeah, Ravi's done Christmas for a few years now. Pretty much since the last time the holiday fell on a weekend (2010). I do recall Magers being on several times when I was younger. It will be hard to predict the usually-predictable holiday line-ups with the equivalent of an entire anchor team added in the last year (Brown, Babich, Scott, and the Miller, with the latter being the only replacement/successor). However, I would probably peg Baichwal and Babich for New Year's Eve, though Janet Davies would do the early shows for a bunch of years.
  14. I'm putting money down now...Ron Magers, Cheryl Scott, and Dionne Miller on Christmas, and it's gonna feel weird as hell.
  15. Oh, I'm in a similar boat on her. I still think that she should not have the chief title when the time comes, but I'm pretty much okay with her being the 10pm show exclusively; many other top-market stations follow this concept. Also, I am more open to her future positioning knowing that she's not hitting the ground running, and they're bringing her up in the patented ABC 7 Farm System (yeah, that's what I'm going to call it).
  16. Well, they're going about it the right way, having her as a fill-in.
  17. THIS ISN'T A LIST THREAD!!! Every market has at least one giant of broadcasting that served as the voice of the region in the 20th century. We get it. Not to get all bitchy about it.
  18. I would guess we'll see Jerry or Mike tonight, but Phil will be back in at 4pm tomorrow and in for Tracy on Friday. It turns out he took his 90 year old father, a world traveller, to Vietnam and Cambodia.
  19. Like "reading news in the dark" out or "off the air" out?

I think we can all agree that the list is long.
  21. Yeah, David mentioned on Friday when she filed a report in-studio that she'd be on the desk this weekend. He did not, however, make any implication that it's permanent. I still think it won't be til after the holidays, and I wouldn't even rule out them going long-term with no formal anchor or even a return to separate anchors on separate nights, a practice dumped only 3 or so years ago.
  22. I wasn't watching this morning, so I don't know. I awoke to GMA and was out the door before 8, but I am DVRing the shows tonight.
  23. She could start by the end of the year, capacity unknown. Jerry didn't know but gets it, and is not getting forced out. His contract is til 2016, so they COULD work with 6 for like a year, but speculation in the comments is that Phil's not coming back. "I'll now be the second best looking." -Taft
  24. They have been using some of the V.2 full screens over the last few days. Either way...'bout time. The opens better get fixed, but I wonder what they do with the theme, as the station is under new management since the 2012 makeover.
