  1. Remember way back when they were on the temp set while the State Street Studio got refreshed? I had mentioned that the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago had a mock ABC 7 set. Here's a pic of that set-up, via our ole buddy at NewscastStudio...
  2. Exactly. Competition makes things interesting, but the notion of fairness gives me the impression that every station is entitled to their moment at the top, which they most certainly are not. Each organization should strive to do better and succeed, and it shouldn't take silly gimmicks to do it.
  3. How is it unfair? This is television, not preschool. You can't blame WPVI for maintaining viewers. You CAN, however, knock the other stations in town for apparently not doing enough to try to compete over the years.
  4. i always liked her better as a redhead. Do that.
  5. I really don't think anything will become permanent til at least sweeps. Maybe they announce a full-timer in November to debut (or become official) in December or even January. By then, both the weeknight and weekend shows might be ready for a more extensive graphical or set refresh, and college football would be wrapping up, returning the program to 7 nights a week. Unrelated, I just noticed this evening that the infamous Sawyer lighting glow is gone...even if they removed it awhile ago. Kinda ironic that they didn't want Diane looking so old, and they now don't want Muir to look so bright-eyed and youthful.
  6. Since when is Thomas Drayton anchoring on AJAM? I feel like it was mentioned, but...
  7. Kids, one letter can make a big difference...and turn a victim into a criminal.
  8. Nothing groundbreaking here; graphics we've seen, music we've heard. Heck, this is a video many of us have already viewed in the past, and it's likely buried somewhere in this very forum, but on this day, it's always worth another look... [yt]wNMJrMpsVR4[/yt]
  9. Found the weekday version... [yt]MdN5jDkH7iA[/yt]
  10. Not long after Weir, Snow, and Castro departed the show, so about 4 years...maybe a little more recent than that.
  11. I know it was used for the 8am rejoin on weekdays, too. I have that video somewhere, but this was the first one I could find.
  12. I've scoured the interwebs for way too long trying to find a clean version of the GMA theme at the beginning of this video. I don't know why it hasn't found its way onto some the theme sites, but has anyone ever seen the theme anywhere? [yt]-aZlw1h2g24[/yt]
  13. I can live with that. They're not up against the rebroadcasts on 2 and 5, and it will be a better lead-in to WNN...if they must hold that off til 2am.
  14. I'll just leave this here... http://abcnews.go.com/Test/video/apple-tv-abc-news-app-preview-check-abc-24219768
  15. David Muir and 'WNT' are getting the road test tonight, as the new anchor will be reporting from Apple headquarters in California following the tech giant's major product reveals today.
  16. Same thing as Josh, talking about Ray Rice.
  17. Geez...BriWi, Josh Elliott and Bryant Gumbel were all on Today in like the first minute of the show. Add in Lauer, and it's the past, present, potential future of the show, all with a little dose of the surreal.
  18. The weekend team is OFFICIALLY complete. I'd say now that Dan isn't going anywhere.
  19. ABC 7 disabilities reporter Karen Meyer (60), who is deaf herself, is retiring from the station at the end of September after 23 years. Morning anchor Hosea Sanders will assume her reporting duties, as she will not be directly replaced. http://www.robertfeder.com/2014/09/04/karen-meyer-retiring-as-abc-7-disabilities-advocate/http://abc7chicago.com/careers/abc7-eyewitness-news-reporter-karen-meyer-to-sign-off/294437/
  20. They've played it before. It's a different cut of the 2012 theme that's been used on and off, mostly in that 2nd/3rd pre-commercial tease.
  21. I gotta say, Monday's soft launch felt like Muir filling in on Sawyer's 'World News', but tonight was different. I can't put my finger on it, but the most subtle changes, likely/probably his international report elevated the broadcast above any singular episode in the last year...at least. Finally, voices of reason that prove I'm not losing it. A thousand points to each of you for making me look good. Unfortunately, as we all know, the points don't matter.
  22. Lara, like Josh, wanted a greater role on the show, but unlike Josh, didn't ask for an 800-1000% pay increase. They had already lost Sam and Josh, so they were able to keep Lara for only a doubled salary and official fill-in role. The title is virtually irrelevant, so, say what you will, it was a good deal on the network's part.
  23. I'm not going to dismiss the notion that they tweaked the theme. I compared a recent open from WNDS with last night's WNT, and it sounds to me like they beefed it up a little. Whether it was a little bass boost or some more orchestration, it felt a little more substantial than before.
  24. Well, he has those talking points down, I'll give him that.
