  1. Fun Fact: On 'Kelly & Michael' this morning, David admitted that he and Diane had been tossing around the idea of returning to 'World News Tonight' for a few years, and this transition seemed like the best opportunity. The reason? "Everybody still calls it that."
  2. It would vary. If he's in the middle of a war zone, or up to his armpits in a flood, then he's not going to do the whole show. If he's in DC, or onsite after doing a big interview, then yeah, he'd likely read all the headlines himself. It's a case-by-case decision.
  3. Yes, but it wasn't just a title, she was 99% equal with Charlie and Diane. You have to remember, this was back when Today started adding to their team, and The Early Show was working a four anchor panel.
  4. Yeah, if he went remote, they'd likely just bring in one of the other network anchors outside of George, Robin, and DEFINITELY NOT Diane to read a few headlines.
  5. Robin still did the news. She just did it from the main desk.
  6. Remember, Sawyer used the Gibson set with modifications until August of 2010. I do think a new desk might come at some point.
  7. Same with AT&T. I just caught that this afternoon.
  8. That's more like what I meant, haha. I try to keep is short on my phone.
  9. To be fair, CBS has had low ratings for 30 years, and has little to do with the content.
  10. Actually, in the last year, WN has performed best in the ratings when George or David have anchored.
  11. I'm guessing he'll be making the local rounds in due time. His young age, the promotion of him as a globetrotter, and this being an election year combine to tell me that he's going to be all over during the next few months. With George keeping the desk warm, David won't be tied down by special reports, and can do more field reporting and remote broadcasts, something that has been lost in recent years with tightened budgets and two "older" anchors preceding him. There're gonna be promos. Promos everywhere.
  12. Where on Earth did you get that idea?
  13. So, with the 'World News Tonight' transition nearing completion, I've been doing some snooping around the internet at how these types of power transfers have been handled in the past. A rumored rivalry between Saywer and Gibson was prevalent during the 2006 and 2009 occasions, and it's no secret that CBS has had some less-than-stable transitions in the last decade. The most storied, though, is that of how ABC moved on after Peter Jennings' passing. An excerpt in one of the articles I stumbled upon caught my eye. It openly addressed the possibility of divorcing the chief and evening anchor roles, 9 whole years before that concept became rule... http://www.nytimes.com/2005/08/09/business/media/09abc.html?pagewanted=all
  14. If ABC aims at the more-balanced NN in terms of content, I'll be satisfied. Muir would rock that format. My problem with NN is that I believe BriWi is better suited for a harder format.
  15. I truly can't believe there're doing all of this. Between the name change, that promo with the past anchors, etc, I have some high hopes for WNTwo.0. Changes aren't going to be immediate, but I'm excited to see how the program content evolves over the next year or two. Or, maybe I'm just drinking the Kool-Aid...so, sue me.
  16. From what I'm understanding (it's late, forgive me) you're referencing this video. Now, is it the one you're recalling, or is this precisely the one you're not looking for? [yt]F1dUFUR_WQI[/yt] Oh, and welcome aboard.
  17. One more time on the logo... Dear ABC, Remember when you made this? That was damn beautiful.
  18. I'm not singling you out, and I apologize if this comes across as a little confrontational, I can assure it's not meant in such a way, but... Why is this so difficult for people to understand? Back in the day, Peter or Charlie (Diane's not a good example) anchored WNT. They were, perhaps by default as dictated by their predecessors, the chief anchors of the network. When the big stories broke, they were the guys the bosses wanted in the chair. They were the faces of the news division, and in some way, all of ABC. However, they weren't there every time the special report siren sounded. They got weekends off, and Lord knows they had plenty of vacation time. In that instance, someone like a Woodruff, Vargas, Harris, or Stephanopoulos would come to bat. While the head honchos preferred to see the big bananas at the desk, it was never possible for them to be there EVERY TIME. Look at 9/11, for example. Gibson and Sawyer, being on the air, handled coverage for about thirty minutes while Jennings got ready to take over. Maybe he wasn't in the office yet. Maybe he was sleeping. Maybe he was brushing his teeth. Maybe he was at an aerobics class. The only thing that ultimately matters is that they report the news, and work hard to get the product (and sooner or later the anchor) to the airwaves. What happened today was a POTUS news conference. They're a dime a dozen, and while the material may be important, it's not a make or break for any network. Sawyer hung it up on Wednesday, Muir isn't supposed to start til Monday, and Stephanopoulos is probably going out of town, and not about to delay his 4 day weekend. George will do 90% of special reports, and like 99.9% of big events, but he's not going to always be on the hook to come in just because a politician sneezed. Sawyer wasn't. Gibson wasn't. Not even Jennings wasn't. So, why should George? He is the chief anchor for the network, but he anchors the morning show. That's all there is to it. That should really clear that up, I would think.
  19. First off... [yt]03C4tnCFEMQ[/yt] Secondly, they're gonna need new graphics. That Muir open is just too squished. Though the temp (and probably weekend) open looks good.
  20. ...And @abcWNT is already taken. ...But I'm going to follow it, just in case.
  21. I'm calling BS on the 'Walters Building' intro, as it references a time in 2013 when WNDS (sorry, not typing it all) used that intro, but the facility wasn't renamed until this past Spring. Okay, now this all seems way too nit-picky to be for just a long weekend. It should be noted, however, that the Twitter profile merely dropped Sawyer's name, though I can't confirm that it was tacked on there before... Would BehindNYNews be interested in changing the thread name? I'm kidding, but I'm kinda not...
  22. The internet proving me right (in my own mind) never fails to amuse me. People still call it 'World News Tonight'.
  23. I still don't understand the mentality behind the theme change. They spent a crapload of money getting a fancy Hollywood composer to write a new score, when they've used DreamArtists across the board for the other programs. Almost every theme DA has done has ranged from decent to fantastic, and I'll bet you that same crapload of dough that they could have composed a solid interpretation of the basic melody that had been a hallmark of the program for nearly 35 (non-consecutive) years. As for the graphics, the look based off the first Sawyer WN package was okay, but just went in the dumper when the current ones debuted before the Boston coverage. The current show open (the longer version) is beautiful. Everything else is sub-par, and clearly done in-house. As for the name, I'm wondering if the show is entering a week-long purgatory where the WNT name returns, but using the WN logo design. It makes no sense to come up with a temporary logo incorporating the iconic name, when they could've just made a mock-up without the red byline, leaving only the WN moniker. Just a thought.
