  1. And now the Dispatch is even making such claims....

    http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/life_and_entertainment/2016/12/29/yolanda-harris-leaves-station.html

If they and 10TV were still under common ownership, the story wouldn't have surfaced UNTIL 10TV made it official.

Could some of the recently departed from the Columbus airwaves be looking to make a comeback? Andrea Cambern? Mindy Drayer? Heck, even Cabot Rea and Dave Kaylor could resurface on WSYX / WTTE some day....

Andrea Cambern is living the good life in California, where her husband is a VP at Chase, so no not coming back, and she doing some freelance work or working part time at the local newsapaper. Kaylor is reitred in Arizona, but doing some commerical work. Nope! Cabot is committed to 4, but let see if that still the case when Nextstar moves in.

    Two comments:

    1. In real life, I joke around about what a great environmentalist I am. I use both sides of copy paper, and I don't throw anything away which still has a use. In other words, I'm cheap. I can't believe there isn't some way to give some face time to all the high priced talent with the high "Q" ratings -- it is environmentally sound. Hell, Yolanda is good looking enough that I would have her popping up on WTHR as well.

Mike Davis has a great voice, but he looks like a pigged out Howdy Doody; Chris Bradley is just plain dorky and dull. Bill Kelly or Bob Kendrick, on the other hand, would have been much better "gets" than Yolanda, in my opinion.

    2. The kids are going to be sorry they let the family dynasty slip away. It sure beats working a day job. But then again, they own plenty of real estate. Maybe that will keep them busy.

Mike Davis yeah he was super fat late 90s early 2000s, but looks like he lost some weight. IMO Kelly and Kendrick got on my nerves. Bill Kelly, is too hype up on some drugs, and Robert Kendrick seems too stiff. Bob, worked at WFTS & KUSA, but he get on my nerves. William Kelly, worked at Sacramento, Spokane and Phoenix, but Chris Bradley seems like the sane one vs. Kelly. Chris Bradley scares old ladies (which he was doing and the station had to telling him to calm down) Bill Kelly, seems like he either doped up on meth or Percocet. I will say they made a good team, but I like Yolanda/Gabe/Jerry over Yo/Bob/Bill.

  2. All I know is this: If I am the Wolfes and I am paying Angela Buchman $400k a year to do the weather in Indianapolis, I'm going to also figure out how to use her in Columbus on a semi-regular basis. She could do "special reports" on Tornado Safety or other such topics. No offense to anybody who is gay and Chris Bradley is a nice enough guy and all, but I would rather look at her.

    AngelaBuchman.jpg

Yes, Wolfes believe in the Q research and Angie was big in Indy, which was one of the reason WISH-TV had so many cracks in it station, by luring her over to WTHR for 400K. Yolanda, might get a bump at 200K with Indy being bigger than Columbus, market. However, the old man is dead the kids don't want the family dynasty anymore. The health of the family company, should be a concern. Once, the station is sold and depending on which media owner takes over those big salaries get slashed. If TEGNA buys it forget it, but if Hearst does then it a win-win for all. As for Chris, the only reason he was able to jump was the former GM worked with him in Detroit, and his Q ratings were high.

  3. Channel 6 has historically been the farm team for Channel 10, and vice versa when someone gets booted from 10. They parked Chris Bradley over at WTHR so he could learn how to use the weather equipment while his non-compete was still around. I think they should do that with Yolanda.

In fact, I don't know why stations don't do more of that. Mix-in your most talented and or attractive people with the other stations in your group. Perfect example was this year's World Series. Put WTHR in charge of the Chicago game coverage and WBNS in charge of the Cleveland games. It makes things more interesting for the viewer to see new people and lets you get more use out of your high-priced talent.

Let be-honest with the resurgence of WSYX ratings, and beating WCMH this was WBNS last ditch effort to keep their #1 ratings in tack, but The Wolfe's had to pony up some $$$ for her to jump ship. 4 & 10 have both been courting her many times. I don't see The Family keeping the station as a family owned station. It will be sold to one of the big companies. However, she was the face of the stations brand, but I hope Terri Sullivan who been with WSYX since 1993, will move up to evening shows at least 5,6PM. Sinclair, likes hair models with big tits; not real journalist. It will be interesting to see how this will all come to fruition. WBNS itself has it own drama, and that trying to to stay relevant.

  4. Danielle Serino (formerly of WOIO/WUAB) has announced on her Facebook page that she's joining WKYC as a consumer investigative reporter after the new year.

So many WOIO/CBS19 castaways jump over to WKYC. It be nice to see Denise go over to Channel 3, or go back to WJW/FOX8.

  5. I grew up with the John Davidson and Tom Bergeron version of H2 in the 80s and 90s, And I started watching reruns of the Marshall Era on GSN. And in my opinion, if Hollywood Squares does gets revived, it won't be the best two out of three format which led to be canceled in '04, it'll be the same format we all come to know. And I sure as hell don't want to see no kardashians on H2, they make me sick, stick with the celebs from TV, Music, and Movies.

And if you are a fan on Blackjack, like I said... I would seriously want to see (Las Vegas) GAMBIT revived.

Do you remember Classic Concentration with Alex Trebek

  6. All these shows (except for Springer- because of the fights- and Wilkos- who you don't want to mess with because he threw a chair and impaled it in a wall) need to be cleaned out and replaced with game shows. There's tons of good formats just waiting to be revived. I would, for instance, replace The View with daytime runs of Match Game and Pyramid, and fill the Chew's slot with revivals of The Big Showdown and Split/Second (both because ABC ran them and wiped them near-completely in the 70s- they deserved better fates (though Second got a mid 80s revival)). Over at CBS, I'd replace Chen and her cronies with revivals of Eye Guess and Three on a Match- both awesome games that got screwed over and wiped by NBC.

Game shows are cheaper to produce, but as for The View if they get the ax after 20 years on the air. I see ABC News would try it best to get Good Afternoon America, however I rather see Joy Behar get her own title talkshow in place of The View if they canned it. Over at CBS since they own The Talk and Chen married to the boss Moonves; I don't see them going away.

I would love to see Gambit, Hollywood Squares back on TV, and add one new or revive soap opera.

If a revive soap opera ever came back it would be on new media platform (streaming) not on Broadcast TV. However, ABC at one time was looking of bring back OLTL and AMC in primetime or one of their ABC cable outlets. Also there was a point they were trying to bringing GL back on a streaming platform, but it never came to fruition. There only (4) soaps left and IMO by 2018, I think all (4) will either get cancel or move to another form. CBS- (Y&R) contract runs out Sept 2017 (B&B) the same 2017. NBC- (Days) contract runs out 2017 with a 1 year pick up by the network. ABC- (GH) is owned by the network, so they can get the ax anytime. I can see CBS moving YR &Bold over to Pop TV, but the shows make their money sold overseas and does well internationally.

The last (4) will be the last, because it cost 50 million to produce a weekly soap, but I can see CBS if they cut Let Make A Deal to 30 minutes. The other 30 minutes could be a soap where CBS owns the soap outright, because that gives the network more leverage if they own it. Y&R- Sony own(majority of ownership) in association w/ The Bell Family and Corday owns 1%. Days- Sony owned in association w/ Corday Productions. The Bells own Bold outright and ABC owns GH. These network executives of these networks are not invested in soap operas like decades ago. Once these (4) go away it would be either cheap talkshow, another news program, or even a game show.

  7. looks like Raycom's getting ready to the cash register. always thought woio had potential, but raycheap always seems to find a way to screw themselves. (even though there have been some bright spots over the years.) it's been troubled ever since they merged with wuab and mistakenly dumped the management team that led wuab's original ten o'clock news into a market leader, even worse after raycom ate more than they can chew with malrite and started cuts. too bad scripps just can't get it's act together again with wews.i remember ted henry saying in his retirement speech that 5 will be one of only two news departments left in cleveland (with the other possibly fox8?) in a couple years time because of its structure.

At this rate WEWS has lost what is left of their historic legacy with Scripp's cheapness.

The moment that Action News was canned at WOIO/WUAB was the death knell of any competitive spirit at Reserve Square. Raycom was really hands-off when Applegate was there but soon as he retired, WOIO/WUAB was going to suffer being an oblivious Raycom station.

If Raycom were to sell/trade WOIO/WUAB, who would want it? Only taker I could see is Nexstar but only if Nexstar is willing to give up WKRN and WKRG/WFNA to Raycom in exchange.

It's probably in Raycom's best interests to either sell or trade WOIO/WUAB to someone else. Will they? Who knows.

The consolidation news operations in a market like Cleveland is still a few years away. I don't think that either one of these news departments are in immediate trouble to justify such a move. Should the economy go into recession, though... it's anyone's guess.

Despite WOIO's woes I don't see Raycom selling 19/43, because a.) it their largest market they owned next (WWSB/Channel 7 Sarasota, FL) b.) it has to be a cash cow despite their languish in 4th place. Credit has to be given to Applegate who came in and shook the market up. Yes, 19 Action News was brash and in your face. However, it did the job, and it challenged the other three stations in the market.

Now, one would of wonder how it would of been if CBS would affiliate itself with WUAB 43 instead of 19 at the time; which had a 10pm news?

    Again, despite the ax swinging at 19 it still puts out a good product, but they're trying hard to moving away from the in your face, brashness that brought them eyeballs. Now they have a clear, crisp newscast. However, they lost credibility with the puppets doing the court case. If you did an autopsy report on the 4 news operation in Cleveland it should be something to an extend of this;

WJW-FOX 8- provides the most local news in the market. The morning news dominate, the evening news 3.5hrs. it was once O&O by FOX, and one of CBS' highest affiliates during their tenure as CBS affiliate. Great operation, newscast just needs an updated look with (set/graphics).

WKYC- Channel 3- Doesn't compete at Noon or 5pm. Over the last 18 years it product has gotten better with time. The once station that was a third place doormat has overcome a lot of challenges, and there still work in progress. Still pours out a good newscast, but their biggest issue is their parent company.

WOIO- Cleveland 19- Ever since 1994 switch from FOX to CBS it has tried to compete with the big three stations in the market. It has made some inroads in the early 2000s, which helped their cause. Still in 4th place in most newscast, somewhat competitive. In 1995, it only had a 6/11pm news. Now 21 years later provides AM, Noon, 4,5,6,11PM (9,10PM news on sister station WUAB 43). It gone from splash & trash to a more conservative newscast. Despite ownership woes it logo is polished unlike the folks on Euclid Ave.

WEWS-Channel 5- First in Ohio TV station to go on the air in 1947, and how the mighty has fallen. Once the dominate station in the market. Where it once pre-empt GMA for it own locally produce morning show; The Morning Exchange. No longer carries Wheel/Jeopardy, it newscast ratings have fallen. The station newscast not as strong, and for this to be the flagship station with the company name as your call letters. E.W.S-but how can Channels 3 & 19 news be more attractive than WEWS-TV5? Biggest woes is the parent company, and the company legacy has gone out the window. When your station brand identity looks like it was created by a 7 year old? One would wonder what would Dorothy Fuldheim have to say about this if she was alive?

  8. Only way I see Robin Swoboda coming back is if she is given a salary similar to Romona's. Otherwise, she's not joining the "Reserve Square Horror Show".

I don't see Robin jumping over to 19, but she did some work with 3 a year ago, and wouldn't be surprise of WKYC/Channel 3 snatch Denise Dufala up. Denise was one of the originals when 19 switch to CBS back in 1994.

  9. the amazing thing is that Meredith isn't a bad owner. KCTV, KPTV, and WFSB show that they know how to properly run a station. Yet when it comes to WGCL they can't do anything right; the talent seems to only last 2 years at the station leading to a constant revolving door, they change their branding every 5 to 6 years, their syndication lineup is scarce and they rely on infomercials to fill time ( a top 10 market station airing infomercials at 1pm every day is inexcusable), they have absolutely no identity in the Atlanta new landscape, and to top it all off they haven't been able to take advantage of Tenga/Gannett's total mismanagement of WXIA.

I think WGCL46 has the right people in place, but they just can't stop being dysfunctional. I did see with Amanda, doing the Morning news somewhat making WXIA a competitive in the AM where both tied in third place. However, there needs to be tough love to Ms. Davis. Meanwhile Meredith isn't a bad company, if WOIO/19 & KTVT/11 could from the gutter to compete with the three big dogs; then WGCL/46 can do the same thing as well too. It just needs to stop with the shit show.

  10. Well at least she wasn't drunk THIS time.

    Progress...not perfection.

  11. KHOU's changes were very radical considering with the new news director from KGW installing hubby as lead AM anchor with Lisa Hernandez and then bumping Greg Hurst off of the 10P for Mia Gradney and Len Cannon. ITs bad when the only stable newscast is your noon newscast.

What newscast does Greg Hurst anchor now and is Mia Gradney the only female primetime anchor?

  12. KYTX has sure gone the cheapie-cheap/whos-that route at 6 & 10. Not the way to go up against KLTV, I'm afraid. Meanwhile, at least WFAA isn't quite that bad, but oh has there been the revolving door there since the sale (not that the other north TX news stations haven't had their own dizzying amounts of talent changes lately).

KHOU 11 seems have changed as well too, and it the ratings seem to have fallen as well too.

  13. Wouldn't be surprising. She's pretty much the only dinosaur left who hasn't taken a buyout.

But I guess even if she isn't on TV, she'll always be there to tell you that YOU are delaying the departure of THIS train.

Or a Dinosaur who in Gannett/TEGNA fold that hasn't been apart of the mass cutting. Brenda Wood at WXIA said she leaving on her own, but you have to wonder. Andrea Roane, Bruce Johnson, Topper Shutt have been mainstays at W*USA will they'll get the boot? Another Jeannie Blaylock, Ken Amaro & Tim Deegan another mainstay at Channel 12 in Jacksonville,

It seems that TEGNA wants young and cheaper and pre-TEGNA you had alot of strong iconic anchors in those markets placed well with big salaries. Now, you if you can get them a fraction of the cost all is well. Also Sandra Hughes returns to WFMY Channel 2 in Greensboro.

  14. Or better yet, sell the NBC 24 intellectual rights to either Gray or Raycom and end this charade.

I know. That's why I said Raycom or Gray should buy the intellectual rights to WNWO, meaning that they transfer "NBC24" to either 11.4 or 13.4 and WNWO goes to HSH.

What about Bonten Media or Cordillera Communications for WNWO? Surprise Sinclair pulling the plug on them. In some markets Sinclair has invested in some stations, but then again; Sinclair pulled the plug on KDNL & WXLV.

  15. Shiba Russel will always be known as the woman who replaces legendary female anchors in different markets. Well to me anyway.

I would have to agree. She starting to be typecast where she replace iconic anchors, and let hope she stays in this role.
