  1. I kinda wish Hearst would buy Meredith and pull a WIAT. I have followed Swann over the years and he would be better off doing talk radio. Less complications.

I agree Hearst should buy Meredith. They seem like they fit like a perfect glove. I wanted Hearst to get Belo stations too. I can see WGCL/CBS46 being owned by CBS too.

  2. trouble/drama at WGCL

    http://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/5/9/troubled-times-at-merediths-atlanta-station

Meredith's complete lack of patience at WGCL is annoying. Just when it seems WGCL is showing some signs of life corporate decides to clean house. It doesn't help that (in my opinion) they are showing way too much news. There is no point for a station dead last in the market to air news a 4,5, and 6; especially when powerhouse WSB has news in those same timeslots. Also not helping things is the fact that WGCL's syndication lineup is garbage. 700 club at 9am; infomercial at 1pm; Inside Edition at 7pm; and Insider (soon to be cancelled) at 7:30pm, that's it. Why they don't move some programming (like Hot Bench and Crime Watch Daily) from WPCH to WGCL is beyond me.

Remember WGCL struggle during the early few years when it switch to CBS. However, it only had a few newscast while the other (3) shops had a more established newscast. When Meredith bought the station from Tribune that when it start beefing up staff with more local news, but during early 2000s they canceled the morning, noon & 5pm news, but they started a 4 pm news while nobody else had one.

Since, Oprah retired and move to cable WSB and many other stations looked at keeping the money in-house instead of spending it on syndicated programs. If CBS is interested in CBS46 I say go for it.

However, CBS46 news has improved and it not ratings hit, but their news coverage is sometimes better than WAGA & WXIA at times.

  3. Detroit is a sh!tty place to live?

Detroiters are ride or die for their city, and despite everything in Detroit it still standing. Yes, they have their issues, but what major city doesn't?

The city is bad outside of downtown... but you have to understand that 4.8 million of the 5.5 million or so in the viewing area don't live in the city... things are quite alright in the burbs thank you... so it's a complete misconception people who aren't from the area have about it...

Suburban Detroit and the many areas around it is great, beautiful and have a lot to offer.

  4. I probably shouldn't post at 1:30am...thanks!

You bring up WTHR...would the Wolfes want to sell both stations to a single owner or split it between two? Ideally, I'd think they'd want to deal with one owner (i.e. Scripps), but since there's a conflict in Indy, Scripps getting both is out of the questions.

That also means that we can count Sinclair and Nexstar out of buying WBNS, too ;)

I would think they would sell to one company to get the deal done, but Scripps has turned into a big joke just like TEGNA. I think at the time Wolfes will keep both stations in their hands, but I do think down the road they will sell. I was told the children don't want the business. However, the family has alot in real estate.

  5. Doing a quick scan of TV markets 10-100 and there are a few possibilities:

--Raleigh/Durham + Fresno: I could see a scenario where ABC cashes out of the region and decides to sell WTVD. (It also gives them a solid #2 in a growing Southeast market.) Same deal with KFSN, except they get a significant market leader.

--Columbus: Word was that the Wolfe family was looking to sell, but as it turns out, that wasn't the case. However, if Scripps gives them a nice offer for WBNS, could they change their minds?

--Oklahoma City/Tulsa: I don't know enough about KOTV/KWTV's ownership situation, but if Griffin were looking to get out of the business, Scripps would make a lot of sense, wouldn't it?

--Providence: WLNE's probably too far gone, but Scripps could probably buy it and give it a WKBW-style revamp.

    Just thinking out loud...

No here hoping that BNS would never be Scripps orbit. Hearst would keep the legacy alive!

  6. Scripps already owns KJRH in Tulsa, so they wouldn't be able to buy KOTV. (And while they'd be able to buy WBNS, they wouldn't be able to outright purchase WTHR in Indianapolis since they currently own WRTV.)

Here hoping Hearst would buy BNS/THR. An employee at BNS said they would love to see that, because of Hearst' strong ownership. I agreed with them, because I wanted TEGNA to get BNS/THR but TEGNA flirting with Nexstar(no bueno ) on that idea.

    http://www.gossipextra.com/2017/04/10/cbs4-cameraman-sues-race-religious-discrimination-jim-defede-fat-6935/

Wilfred Ardley (aka Muhamad Hassan) a news photog for 26 years at CBS-owned WFOR-4 in Miami (Market #16), has sued the station for religious, racial, and age discrimination.

Ardley/Hassan, 57, who is a Black Muslim, claims he was demoted for calling veteran reporter Jim DeFede "fat" and for making him look "big on camera," according to Gossip Extra. DeFede weighs close to 400 pounds.

Ardley, a former Florida A&M football player, claims he has suffered from a pattern of discrimination which has caused "stress" and "emotion discomfort."

He says one of his colleagues once asked, "What's wrong with your people?" when Muslims were in the news. Ardley claims he was also asked if he was going to "shoot up the place."

  8. Really, Sunday night is the highest viewed news of the week?

Yes. Believe it or not... Sunday is in fact the biggest night.

He's right! Sunday, is even the Networks highest night of programming as well too! They had a list out several yrs ago on what day of the week get the highest ranking of network programming. Sunday wins hands down

  9. Scott Levin making a smart move by leaving on his own terms rather than taking a TEGNA buyout

If I was management over at WKBW/Channel 7 I would seriously make an offer to lure him over to help the once dominated station in the market. I'm sure he has a following of viewers.

  10. In:
