  1. Somebody in Scrippsland noticed that WXYZ largely still had the orange/reddish 2009 weather graphics (except the 7 day) 9 Years later. So they finally got with the program and got the yellow/blue/white 2012 standard weather graphics for their future cast and radar and such. Their 7 day also changed so instead of highs directly above lows it’s high-low-high-low in an up and down diagonal pattern that leaves the high and low offset from each other in each box. Still using the orange 2011 first alert logo modified with a Flat rather than glossy ABC logo. Wonder what took so long.

  2. Larry did the 7 o'clock show tonight, and it was his formal debut. I can't think of a situation ever where an anchor has retired/voluntarily left (so firings don't count), and that person's successor started their new role the same day.

I have trouble fathoming why they went with such a goofy schedule in the first place... that’s probably part of it... it created a vacuum and you know how nature feels about said suction...

  3. Things must have really changed in the last few years. We NEVER took yellow cabs to anything. It was always town cars...even for stupid airport runs to JFK. If Lara Spencer or Stacy Sager...or even N.J forgot their favorite hair brush at home...it was a town car that was sent. Never a yellow cab. You get better service and discounts with town cars because every station has their "favorite" companies.

You seriously gonna tell me some local anchors and reporters don't take town cars to work anymore?

Where do they have all the available parking spaces hidden at WABC?

    ok...ok....to be accurate

    WCBS and WPIX took cabs.

WOR and everyone else took Gypsy.

    (ya sense a little sarcasm?)

What no big expensive suburban lot or attached station parking garage?

  4. As I said "I get it". I'm just saying!

You were just saying you get that she doesn't but went on to expound that she should and her not having one is disingenuous. J told you why they don't do that... it's standard operating procedure. If she goes up to anything above freelance she will get a bio. But as a freelancer she can leave tomorrow and nobody will really notice, shes not really that important there because she is a freelancer I'm sorry to say.

  5. Nice shade from Jessica D'Onofrio: "It will be interesting if the President will be tweeting about the outcome of the race this morning."

    Last night, he tweeted this:

I’m having trouble figuring out what you are trying to connect here?

Yes he congratulated Jones but that means nothing. Trump is known to go off half cocked at a moments notice even after he says the opposite of what he rants. So her statement isn’t to throw shade, it’s a safe bet that he won’t be normal and not mention Moore’s loss the next day. He was very likely to go on a rant, his own congratulations be damned.

  6. Does Curtis Jackson still work at Channel 7? I see his bio not on station website and his pics on twitter are 2017 earlier in the year, but have you seen him on the news?

He was not renewed at management discretion.

  7. A couple of superficial observations:

    1. Noticed the return of the old voiceover on the open.

    2. I've always liked Jeff Glor, but Jeff needs to slow down his reads.

    3. The lower thirds are way too big. I don't like the persistent headline L3 during the story. Leave that for CBSN.

    4. I don't like the montage at the end of the show.

    5. Glad to see the CBS Evening News logo match the CBS network logo. Also the CBSEN logo is in a nice linear arrangement, instead of the goofy looking logo we had before.

    6. Happy that CBSEN kept the same music.

I agree with #4 especially... the affiliate camera shots were cool...

  8. Thank God, now bring back Guy Gordon. I wasn't a fan of Stephen-

Gordon is at 760 WJR... who knows... it could happen... maybe Frank Turner? He’s been wasting away in Saginaw for a year or two...

  9. I don't get why Cheryl Scott needs to be at Wrigley field. She's not a sports nor a news reporter, she's a METEOROLOGIST. They have plenty of reporters there. .

Just in case it rains baseballs... oh wait it was 11-1 so I guess that worked out...

  10. I guess they don't realize that they should've said "News Update" instead of "Breaking News". Breaking News is when a shocking turn of events happened, in which everybody wants to know what's going on.

This has become a problem in the industry... they are trying to get eyeballs and repelling people instead...

  11. Whether or not the new talent opens ever make it to air, something is definitely in the works, and it's starting with a logo update. The gray Circle 7 appears to be on it's way out, as a white (but not flat) model is on it's way in. The rendering of it in some uses reminds me of the higher-contrast model that WPVI is using in their new opens. Just a couple samples I've noticed over the last month or so...

The headshots used here are from the talent open shoot...

Three logos at once, for fun. Also note the cuff links, a gift from Mrs. Krashesky...

I saw this billboard last week, and it made it into Feder's article this morning (also from the aforementioned open reshoots)...

The non-news programming bugs have changed, too, with redone animations. I only have a still of the WCL, but it animates similarly to the following bug...

Yes, overall it's fairly minor, but as it's seeping into the newscasts, I'm left to guess that yet another October (what would be the 4th in 5 years) might mean some more changes.

Ahoy matee! There be sweeps ahead!
