  1. Well...

WXYZ has “new” morning show lower thirds and a new morning show logo to go with them:

All other graphics (full screen etc.) is the same standard stuff. The flying box is static in this look too which is nice... the moving logo stuff is getting stale. They are trying very hard to emulate GMA. Their anchors have also adopted some of David Muir’s odd speaking style in the evenings. They’ve always done this kind of copy the mothership stuff.

We're barely a week into the year. If there will be new graphics this year, they've got plenty of time.

Rumor is they didn't even start the preliminary process of getting new graphics until late fall. So it probably wouldn't happen until summer or fall 2019 at the earliest.

That means we can start speculating on their graphics package that follows the new one in 2026 right?

There's a new face on WXYZ's weather team. Mike Taylor, who will be on during weekends, presented the weather yesterday at 6 PM and 11 PM.

He's an in-house hire who came from WMAR. Previous to that, he had a previous stint at WXYZ, as well as positions at WCIA and WBKB.

This could be a definite sign as well that Chris Edwards will actually retire. WXYZ's weather team currently consists of Dave Rexroth, Kevin Jeanes, Hally Vogel, Beth McLeod (for who knows how long) and now Mike Taylor is back.

His previous stint was as an intern. He’s not bad. Allie Hoxie who recently came over from KSHB is awful and yet they let her hang around on the 11pm... she always looks completely frightened of being on TV...

WXYZ has also finally redone the WXYZ.COM lettering on the front of their desk. The Copper from the old 2009 Scripps package is gone and it’s now dark blue just like the flying box. Way overdue.

  4. If I were to guess, they just want to act like they're "checking in" with her, and not treating it as a full sports segment. They should do something, with all the events in a standard weekend, but want to keep it in-line with the sportsless weekday 5 o'clock show.

Which doesn’t really make much sense but we’ll go with that anyways... I’ve never liked the idea of a sportsless hour of news... you wind up ignoring one of the most popular subjects for your audience...

  5. "Employees at MSNBC, , say that the company orders them to air biased political segments, and that it feeds interviewers questions intended to favor Democrats Brietbart reports."

See how that reads when you change the network and the political party?

    Just sayin'

You could do the same with FOX News too...

  6. So in other words we have seen reporters losing their jobs over posts made on Social Media yet this Mark Mathis guy only gets a "slap on the wrist" and is STILL employed at KUSI? I see a double standard to this issue here

Or an employer who cares less than others do about what they post...

  7. WABC recently switched their CG playout over to Ross Xpression (They actually transitioned to a brand new control room as I understand it) I believe other O&O's are going to make the transition to Xpression as well. Yes, the graphics have to be rebuilt in it.

Does it run any better than ignite? There must be some advantage to it...

  8. Meteorologist Beth McLeod is now back in Detroit... at WXYZ... No bio on the website yet, but her Facebook is now Beth McLeod WXYZ Weather Team

Freelancing as far as anyone knows... Fred May be headed for the Tigers too but we’ll see... they do have a meteorologist opening at the moment. Beth has been doing weekend mornings for 3 weeks...

  9. Dave LewAllen has been named lead anchor for WXYZ in Detroit replacing Stephen Clark. At 31 years he is their longest tenured anchor/reporter.

So this is their new team going forward:

  10. Ali Hoxie recently moved from KSHB to WXYZ... she needs some work on her delivery... first reporter I’ve seen in a while that looked nervous on camera and has experience on TV...

I’ve noticed a lot of intercompany transfers for Scripps lately...

  11. Agreed. That’s when they decided to go for the Ohio City/hipster/club crowd with promos like this:

And going way back...I still think they made a HUGE mistake ditching Kimberly Gill. Cleveland (and Pittsburgh’s) loss is definitely Detroit’s gain. WEWS should’ve sent to Danita back to mornings in 2009 and put Kimberly in the main slot.

In person Kimberly Gill seems friendly enough... but on air her stiffness really only works in some places and at some stations... she is a good replacement for who she replaced but that’s about all one can say about her...

  12. The content delivery landscape will be totally different by then. Fox News is already starting to seriously ramp up their streaming platform Fox Nation. CBS already has CBSN. NBC and ABC are starting to get into the game, too.

The only thing that won't change is AM conservative talk radio, they're still stuck in 1988... and that will never change.

But will there be a sizable audience for it is my question... I don’t care if they deliver the content with smoke signals... in 20 years will anybody be around to care?

It’s not like folks magically reach 65 and turn on FOX... given that most of their current audience will be dead by 2038 and the younger generation skews way left of FOX I really think the whole concept is on borrowed time...

  13. Roger Ailes set up Fox as a network that carved out a definitive niche and imaged themselves as THE news outlet for conservatives, regardless of the age demo. And it worked... so much so that there any competition in the conservative TV news field (OANN, NewsMaxTV) cannot logically compete.

It just so happens that the majority of Fox's audience skews old, but at the same time, the vast majority of people with conservative viewpoints will be predisposed to watch Fox or access their digital properties.

It's all about brand loyalty and cumulative audience.

And in 15-20 years when they drop dead....?
