  1. That brings up kind of a side question: are there any Scripps stations that aren't struggling? I know KSHB has been doing ok for a bit and then it's slipped rather badly lately. KMGH wasnt doing too well last I heard... WCPO slipped.... WXYZ is in a distant third.... WEWS isn't winning... WMAR isn't... Yuck... I can't speak for WFTS or their stations in California. KNXV won something a little while back... It just doesn't look real good.
  2. KMCI is owned by Scripps, not KSHB.
  3. http://chicagoradioandmedia.com/news/7205-news-notes-evelyn-holmes-pamela-jones-csn-chicago-bruce-dumont-jim-lynam-wfxf-tom-morgan-wind-wyll Chicago Radio And Media is reporting that Reporter / Fill-In Anchor Pamela Jones's contract at WBBM was not renewed. She joined WBBM in 2005 after spending 6 months at CLTV. It's the second story down in the linked article.
  4. WXYZ is going to debut their downtown studio on Thursday, they put out this promo last Friday: From what I can see it looks pretty decent. At least the desk has blue on it and not that god awful orange we still have on the main desk.
  5. Yep, that's a wrap on that. There's no doubt it's only a matter of time. The promo looks like it was intended to give Cheryl the Jerry seal of approval. The backdrop looks a lot like where they did the talent intros with a really bright light. Nice promo.
  6. Reporter or anchor.... Purveyor means giver of.
  7. Do they actually do a charity event special?
  8. Ha Ha... Now if only some of those anchors would actually do some talking on camera...
  9. Apparently a freelance employee at 7 was caught leaking mayoral debate questions to the Garcia campaign. The person was not named but they have resigned their position at 7 as a result. http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/wls-freelancer-caught-leaking-questions-before-mayoral-debate/141403
  10. Here they didn't do that but one of our kid sports reporters moved to news to anchor it. The other was a weekend anchor for the better part of a decade before getting The Now and the 10pm. 530pm seems an odd time for a solo newscast... If anybody knows: How much national originated content are the other Nows carrying? As I said ours is maybe 1 segment about 445, usually under 2 minutes, the rest is local and other than the hand-held newsroom camera and "We are Live ______ The Now Detroit" it's essentially a regular newscast. So regular that it makes me cringe that they don't just use the regular news branding... It's not even believable that The Now is a brand or that it isn't a newscast.
  11. The Now Buffalo anybody?
  12. I would like to see our version of The Now become "7 Action News At 4". All they would have to do is strip the current show of the name and the 1 or 2 minutes of national content it has. The ratings for it are upper 2's and lower 3's. Well, there goes Jimmy Rhodes and 2 or 3 staffers they hired at WXYZ in August for The List. If the list goes entirely then moving ET from WMYD's 730 spot would work. It may be at 730 for that reason... It'd be Easy to put it right back where it was for 23 years on WXYZ at 730 were LAA and later The List to get axed. Anybody else think Scripps will eventually scale back it's national syndication delusions of grandeur?
  13. I think a theme with an Oscar watch party might be more fun since it's a party after all and it might feel more morning-ish. The one thing about 7 I can say is that whether I agree with the strategy or not: A) It almost always works B) The production is always excellent
  14. Are they sending the subliminal message "we're the best!!"? It is a nice looking shot , I just don't see much of the point in getting them that dressed up. I suppose it fits with the oscar theme though. Them anchoring the 10pm Sunday show as well would be more appropriate to the visuals there I would think.
  15. I was thinking some news anchors would be down there hosting it... not weather and sports people. Obviously it's not a huge event.
  16. Well there you go... My next question is: are they going to be it down there? If they are that seems a little lacking.
  17. I'm gonna ask for context My guess is that it's from a poster or promo showing the front line weather and sports teams... This actually makes sense in that context considering Mark, Jim and Jerry are definitely top guys and Cheryl has been inserted in that role. I imagine a year ago Mike and Jerry would be in such a promotional piece.
  18. Gotcha, so I'm assuming Diane will go to weekday mornings then and Jade will do those weekend mornings and whatever else they have for her?
  19. Good for Diane, she is a decent reporter. Where was Terrell normally seen before he moved up to mornings? I never saw much of him when I watched on the occasional evening. Hernandez, at least from the clip looks like she'll be decent. I think the most interesting thing she's bringing is the noticeable accent from Kansas.
  20. Isn't Barbara Walters still involved as an EP? I would have thought with her around behind the scenes it still would have held together better than it has. I agree the choices of panelists have been impulsive at best... At worst they have been disastrous of late.
  21. I get the feeling The View as a show will be not far behind the way it's going.
  22. WFXT FOX 25 in Boston is getting a new Sports Director. Tom Leyden is leaving his Sports Director job at WXYZ in Detroit after holding the job since 2012. He started at WXYZ in 2004 and will start at WFXT in April.
  23. A couple of things from Detroit: WJBK FOX 2 has added Megan Spencer, who was last at WTVQ in Lexington, KY until 2011 as Weekend Evening Co-Anchor alongside Ron Savage. No word on if she will report during the week as well: http://www.adweek.com/tvspy/wjbk-adds-co-anchor-to-weekend-newscast/140891 A producer at WXYZ made a bad decision Wednesday Morning when wording a post of the video of the Taiwan Plane Crash. The post triggered several complaints and a correction and semi-apology: http://deadlinedetroit.com/articles/11472/update_terribly_worded_post_on_crash_was_not_part_of_a_trend_wxyz_says#.VNP-0y7VrMr
  24. It's wooden and subdued... I kind of like it. It's also calibrated well.
  25. It actually cuts quicker so he doesn't have time to fully bobble.
