  1. International Edition:

I stumbled on this discovery on Youtube. Apparently it looks like someone at TV3 in Malaysia really likes RTL in The Netherlands because not only did they copy their open, they also copied their graphics and their set.

Credit to Bintro on Youtube for first noticing this.

Maybe they licensed it...and paid for it.

  2. Not sure if either would have to change call letters - but after recently combining news operations and moving in together on Spring Garden it just seems off they would split them up and sell off News Radio. Especially, since 1060 - despite some ratings challenges - has the far superior product and is quite possibly the most respected news organization in Philly.

Those CBS owned newsradio stations have always been superior in all the markets they are in. Can't seem to figure why the TV side in those markets always lagged.

That's a lot of legacy radio calls to mess with, so I would hope any spin-off or sale would want to protect those call letters.

  3. KTNV in Las Vegas is now branding it's weather forecasts as... First Alert Weather! Shocking, I know. At least the opening graphic looks decent.

    Praytell,

Scripps in San Diego is "Weather Rate"...

Is there no in house weather branding loyality at Scripps?

I would think you could get more Weather Rate or First Weathers Alerts... if the station group purchased in bulk.

    Kinda like Costco.

  4. Yep!!!

Rich Liberman is stupid for posting it as an "EXCLUSIVE" when I already knew about this, 20 days ago!

You should tell him...and watch him flip out.

I would pay to see that.

  5. 30 minutes shifts on 60 minute broadcasts bugs the crap out of me. Are they separately-branded broadcasts (not that that makes it any better)?

But the anchors need those breaks to take their naps...and drink their juice boxes. Some use that time to make little finger paintings that the nice weather lady shows later on tv.

  6. Do they serve those little white castle burgers in the jail?

If they do, I bet that reporter got arrested on purpose.

The media will do anything for free food.

  7. The Department of Justice has filed suit to block Tribune Publishing for acquiring the newspapers owned by Freedom Communications.

Tribune Publishing owns the LA Times while Freedom owns Orange County Register & Riverside County Press-Enterprise.

Tribune recently won (at a bankruptcy auction) to acquire the remaining assets of Freedom early Thursday Morning, when the DOJ filed suit hours later. The DOJ fear that should the deal go through, Tribune would have a monopoly in print media in the OC & in Riverside. Tribune stated that it will defend the legality of the sale.

Freedom previously own several television stations prior to the end of 2011, when it sold its broadcasting arm to Sinclair.

God forbid Tribune gets a monopoly on something nobody reads.

  8. So a small follow-up to this

B&C stated today that a group of U.S. Senators among both parties were not happy about Wheeler requiring station groups to unwind its JSAs just to get deals to go through.

    Ha ha!

Sounds like a bunch of angry JSA/SSA operators called their Senators...

    Poop rolls down hill right?

  9. If I was the News Director I would call it "NBC Orgasm"...

Women would watch all day hoping something would happen...

And guys would only have to watch a few minutes...then take a nap.

Or they could team up with that Logo Network and call it........

Oh forget it...I will just get in trouble for posting that one:D

  10. Hard to imagine anyone willing to walk away from the HUGE salary Matt is getting at NBC. Unless he's getting his own talk show, or another job where he's going to be paid more than what he is making right now, I just don't see him walking away.

I really thought the networks were trying to put the mega salary days in the past.

    A Matt Laure talk show????

That's just for me a painful thought.

  11. Which is strange in its own right. It's funny that KGTV most likely took a story from CNN NewsSource and not from sister station KNXV directly.

    Yes it came from NewsSource.

CheerBoy (Martinez) looked awkward reading the lead and the tag...he wanted to say something about Philliips...but he didn't...but it showed.

  12. KGTV's 11am news today (03/10) included a story from Arizona about an abandoned newborn which was "reported by Preston Phillips, reporter"

    Yeah...

That's what clued me into the bounce, I was waiting for (Jason "Cheerboy" Martinez) the anchor tool to mention something because it was news to me for sure.

  13. Kimi Evans, formerly of KFMB and XETV just popped up during the 11am news on KNSD. I'm not sure if she is freelancing or is a permanent part of the weather team. Interesting to note that the midday anchors/weather anchor are off the midday show today.

    All of them were off???

They probably had to do the NBC mandated sexual harassment training class.

Or it's a promo shoot day.

Did anyone even notice that Preston Phillips of KGTV weekend show has bounced to Phoenix KPHO as a weekend anchor.

He has star wars jammies...and can now afford a real house in PHX.

  14.

There's no way that WXIA would drop the 11Alive branding again because just like in 93/94, viewers would still be pissed about the change in the longtime branding. However, a new logo for 11Alive is more likely.

    .

Just goes to show that even the worst branding in the world becomes acceptable and loved over time.

"Alive" is so 1970's Storer...and even then it sucked....but if you have people that love it, then leave it alone.

  15. I think the big story is that Larry Perret is actually taking that dog station (CBS46) to better places as it seems to appear.

Perret might consider buying in Atl instead of renting.
