  1. So, Southern California has been getting an unusual amount of rain due to "El Niño". So anytime there is rain, stations here in town go crazy with "Storm Watch" coverage. Anyways, KGTV has gone apeshit with coverage and had some cuztomized "BREAKING WEATHER ALERT" graphics made...QUOTE=]

Compared to KFMB I would say that coverage was embarrassing. If this is how the KGTV newsteam performs during the first round of storms, I hate to see them next week when real shit will hit the fan from ground saturation.

KGTV acts like the just discovered the wheel....that KFMB invented.

  2. Francella Perez. It looks like she was at KWHY in LA, and was probably part of the MundoFOX cuts. Either way, she looked way too nervous this morning.

She is fun to look at for 2min and 30sec

It doesn't sound like English is her primary language, but she dresses nice and has a bangin lil body.

  3. Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me either. The station receives Antenna TV, like with NBC on its main signal, via satellite, so I'm not sure what's causing that issue. The equipment affected could include links that relay Antenna TV's signal from the satellite receivers to the transmitter, but that's just an assumption.

However, many cable systems, like Cox and AT&T U-verse, receive local stations within their market via a fiber optic feed provided by the station, so KFOR, KAUT and their existing subchannels are still viewable on those two providers (not sure about any others within central and western Oklahoma, some smaller ones farther out probably pick up those and other Oklahoma City stations off-air).

Anytime you are bring a transmitter back to life it's a slow and methodical process.

If there was Ice or water involved in any part of the transmission plant you take your time. Assume there will be other problems as you "re-load" the transmitter.

You work in reverse....the way they taught you "old school". The last thing you want to do it go flipping a bunch of switches and create new or miss unfounded problems during re-start.

Subcarriers and cable linksusually are restored last... once system stability on the main channels and paths are fully stable and restored.

  4. boy, they really wanted to reinforce the Scripps name. The thing is that here in San Diego, there are several entities that have the Scripps name: Scripps Hospital, Scripps Institution of Oceanography and then there is the community of Scripps Ranch. I'm surprised that KGTV didn't brand themselves as Scripps 10 News.

There is that gang called "The Scripps"...they fight "The Bloods".

  5. Chi-Town Rising was as bad as you thought it would be. They waited until 30 seconds after midnight to count down the new year. And Mario Lopez? Seriously? Nothing says Chicago like having Slater host your local NYE celebration. And I've never met a local that uses the saying "Chi-town".

You're better off watching Janet Davies and Mark Giangreco embarrass themselves on ABC 7 every New Year's Eve.

Mario Lopez is from Chula Vista CA. Just south of San Diego.

Please accept our deepest apologies, as we did not intend to offend you with Mr Lopez...

    But shit happens!

    Sorry!

  6. Money perhaps? I know AMS-certified meteorologists usually demand higher salaries.

Not likely given the hundreds of applicants a San Diego wx opening will attract. They are all dying to come here and will work for fish...just like Shamu at Sea World.

  7. Here in San Diego there have been a few. Robert Santos was the weekday weather guy at KGTV before being promoted to Weekend AM anchor. Greg Bledsoe at KNSD does news and weather for their weekend AM newscasts. I can't forget the late-great Loren Nancarrow who went from weather to news. He did weather at KGTV and then joined KSWB first as a fill-in wx guy before anchoring the evening newscasts.

Santos started as a reporter at KION/KBCA in the late 90's in Monterey/Salinas. Santos got his wx chops in Seattle and Vegas

Nancarrow started as a reporter at KFMB in the early 80's.

Larry Himmel went to WX after reporting ...but bounced all over the place.

Keep an eye on Jeff Zevly as he is earning the nickname of "Larry 2.0"

  8. Wow did WXYZ really just now get that weather ticker? KSHB has had it for months. I'm quite a fan of it.

So now the upper third is also being claimed by Scripps?

Now we will see all those "courtesy of" video credits creep lower into the frames.

    No Bueno!

  9. West coast forecasters have very little tools and information to make predictions beyond 12/24 hours. Radar is only good for 25/50 miles out over the ocean. The Airforce does not fly data into west coast storms.

All you have is sat, marine observations from bouys and ships, and that's about it.

Nice boob job and tight butt keeps the male viewers happy, and a non-threatening gay asian guy keeps the women (and some guys) happy.

More hooey in wx forecasting here in the west than anything else.

There is not much craft to practice here unlike the rest of the country.

When I'm News Director I'm gonna have the best weather team around.

They are gonna be super hot guys and gals...

That can put out wildfires, design and build reservoirs...and predict all the earthquakes a week in advance.

"The Channel 73 Global Climate Force".

Nope. I don't even think she had any formal training on presenting weather prior to this. Which is really baffling because, as I mentioned before, they hired Kimberly King (whom was a traffic reporter/ fill-in weather person at KNSD--before being laid off) several years ago and that ended horribly. King, had very limited weather experience, yet KFMB hired her. Why they would ditch a meteorologist in Kimi Evans is beyond baffling.

The funny thing is that KFMB for several years had expected/demanded that their weather anchors be AMS certified, but with recent hires, they've gone back and forth in selecting candidates with or without the seal or even being a meteorologist.

  10. No sign of Heather this morning. At least when I tuned in at 430. Jeff Zevely was doing weather.

Well she popped up this morning at 6am wearing that same dress that all the other weather chicks have been wearing (blue).

    And get this...

Nichelle wore the same exact dress....but in pink.

I should have never given up drugs.

  11. It easy to say he should be grateful, but at 80+ years of age he not going to play the game to make management feel good about themselves. I'm sure we either have grandparents in their late 70s/early 80s or know someone in that age demographic. At that stage of life they don't care about saving face or making sure someones feelings are not hurt. They say what on their mind, and don't give a shit if your mad, sad or upset with what they say. They speak their minds and keep it moving and that the life of being crotchety in your golden years.

I hope he took a big stinky poop in the ND's office before he left.

In Chicago, it was told that Harry Porterfield retired from the CBS owned WBBM, but Harry said he was told his contract wasn't going to be renew at CBS 2, so he didn't come back for the final farewell broadcast.

  13. Damn, what a loss for KUSI.

Kimi supposedly wanted to dedicate more time to her pilates studio. For what ever its worth, that's what she says she's going to be doing...

Does it have large picture windows visible from an adjacent parking lot?

    Got the address????

    Sounds totally yummy!

    (ankle bracelet gps alert)

  14. Leslie Lopez announced today (12/18) is her last day at KUSI (Ind-9) San Diego. She will be joining the weather team at KABC (ABC-7) Los Angeles.

Now it least Kimi Evens has a possible place to go.

Kimi with Lisa Ramalrdalard in the mornings????

    Sexy Pillow Fight Time!

  15. Tribune will lease it back just long enough to build a new compound. Why would anyone want to lease back 50+year old facility?

The new owner would sure as hell not want to be stuck with the old Bozo barns when they can build nice condo's and Starbucks.
