Sounds similar to the Los Angeles Metro bus system did for many years up until about a couple of years ago...most buses had "Transit TV", which had its own original content (quizzes, PSAs, health and money tips, viral videos), plus content from NBC (local news from KNBC and KVEA, and various video clips from NBC, Telemundo, and other NBCU properties). Even though I could ever rarely hear whatever was displayed on the monitors, it at least would sometimes make an otherwise mundane, crowded bus ride a bit more interesting.

The Transit TV was tried on the North County Transit system also. The funniest thing was the electronic "stop announcer" that had big problems "saying" Spanish street names properly. Kinda likw a messed up GPS voice.

So what local station will be the local "News Partner"???

    I can't wait!

WGN-TV is adding a 10:00 p.m. newscast this October. I don't think WGN has run news in that time slot since the 1980s.

WGN want's it's cut of the estimated 15 billion in campaign spending in this election cycle. Stations are adding 4pm,7pm and 10pm shows all over the country.

Who cares about ratings since stations are pretty much required to accept the ads.

  4.

Yes, but we all know that most cable/satellite TV subscribers will just switch to another provider if a dispute isn't settled in a timely manner. Eventually, that time will come when Sinclair will have a dispute with DirecTV, Cox, Charter, etc., and the viewer will have to switch again. Then this will lead to more cord-cutting, unless you're in a rural area where you might not get the over-the-air signal and your only choices are the two satellite providers.

But most DBS subscribers cannot bounce back and forth due to contracts. The tide is changing very quickly...faster than DBS and cable can fathom.

Free OTA and a 5-30 mbs internet connection can do serious damage to DBS and Cable. I think there will be a giant push for de-reg, dropping fin/syn completely and letting the markets fight it out.

WCAU cancelled a mayoral debate after failing to agree with the democratic mayors six page memorandum of understanding which included things about the size of dressing rooms, water bottles and camera angles. I can understand some things set up for equality but dictating camera angles is ridiculous. I wonder what other demands were on the list.

    http://www.philly.com/philly/news/NBC10_cancels_mayoral_debate_over_demands_by_Kenney_campaign.html#disqus_thread

Negotiations on camera movements and angles go back to the Nixon / Kennedy debates.

Just about every debate since then have included them as part of the discussion.

Many ofthe items are just "check boxes" in the interest of fairness.

  6.

It's listed as The Now on the jobs page. Hard news means no puppy videos! LOL. It's all about the BREAKING NEWS TRACKER!!!!!1111!!!!! and TEAM 10

Yeah I finally saw the job posting....I digress.

Puppy videos and the Breaking News Crapper!

    More non-stedicam shaky shots....

    Maybe KFMB can bring back....

    "This Day"

If Jim Holtzman and Ron Mires were dead,,,,they would roll in the grave.

To bad both are alive and have to watch this crap.

  7.

I was looking at job postings locally and found that KGTV ABC10 San Diego is looking for an anchor for the local version of The Now:

They are also looking to expand their morning cast with a Live Center anchor position as well.

I wonder when The Now will premiere, I don't remembering hearing or seeing any promos about it, same thing can be said about the new syndicated talkshow program that they picked up, Tyra's FabLife show that will air at 2pm here in San Diego come September 14. I've seen promos saying that Inside Edition will be moving to KFMB (CBS 8) this fall.

So San Diego will now have 4 newscasts competing against each other at 4pm. Will be interesting to see what the KGTV version of The Now will look like and how it will they differentiate themselves from the rest. I would prefer a hard-news and relevant topics angle (something like CBS This Morning) without the use of Kardashians, puppy videos and the latest diet trends to fill up most of the hour. If any of you follow local news down here in this classy city, Channel 10 developed and aired "10-4: San Diego" back in May of 2006 when they lost Oprah to KFMB's CBS 8, that talkshow hybrid was pretty fluffy and was canned that same summer just before the 2006-2007 television was about to start and they stuck to just a simple, regular newscast for the rest of that season before going to a two-hour gameshow block the season after that. I hope that history won't repeat itself and they have learned their lesson.

Just another newscast for political avails.

You can bet there will be plenty of puppy videos and maybe even the world famous broken KGTV traffic ticker.

As far as a "live center anchor" goes....

Don't count on getting "anchor bucks", it just a fancy title for MMJ. Could even be a perdiem MMJ.

If that sounds, fun then get in line to pee in the cup!

  8. Natasha is in a better place now.

She will always be welcomed back for vacation fill-in.

Kimi Evans was hired from day 1 as perm.

"Natasha coming back" was the worst kept secret in recent local TV history.

5 screaming kids beats the hell out of a TV newsroom in 2015.

  9.

Sorry for bringing up an old subject, but this morning a KPNX live van drove past me on the freeway, in need of new wraparounds (the truck still had the mention of "azcentral.com" and the pre-2011 Gannett "Globe-G" logo). I know re-wrapping their vans isn't a top priority, even though Gannett/Tegna has been known for cost cutting these past few years.

I also saw a KPHO live truck going the other direction on the freeway. I'm not sure how they're going to consolidate the KPHO and KTVK logos on their fleet, since they're somewhat trying to keep the stations' images separate for the time being.

Just split them down the middle...

One side KPHO, the other side KTVK. Hubcaps on one side...no hubcaps on the other.

That will confuse the hell out of the reporters.

    It worked for KCAL/KCBS.

  10. Heather Hopeless KFMB...

How many times can she say "were talking about"......in one liveshot???

    I counted 6 times.

Lucky for her I didn't record that liveshot.

  11. John Coleman is back on KUSI!!!

Doing commercials for Solar Alliance of America,,,a local solar energy company.

I guess after Cheeta's shut down he got bored.

  12.

They're the highest rating thing on msnbc aren't they? They won't be going anywhere. More people watch msnbc on the weekends when they aren't airing news compared to the weekdays when they actually are. That must sting.

I must admit I am one of those people. But I switch to SPIKE TV at 8pm on Saturday... to get my fix from COPS.

  13. CBS radio has lopped off 300 heads in the last few weeks so that's usually not a sign of a group looking to aquire more stations. Granted the head of the KFMB radio stations just "retired" last week.

Unless there is a real sweet offer on the table, I cannot see KFMB breaking off the radio side. The radio stations are NOT losing money by a longshot. They also run radio pretty lean.

    Just a wild guess....

The local CBS radio stations become part of KFMB?

  14.

My idea NBCNow your breaking news headquarters

They also should hire more republican people that would boost thier ratings at least I think? But it will take time to improve their ratings

    It's available...buy the domain now!
  15.

Are my eyes tricking me, or does KUSI have new studio cameras, or better lighting? There's no more of the orange tint on the anchors faces anymore.

I does look different, actually a bit like the "detail" was mushed back a bit. But I really don't know.

I thought the orange tint was just me.

  16. Notice the van had an internal "cage" built in. Same type cages the NYC stations use in the SUV's. The stuff stolen was sitting in the front where there was no cage.

    Van was also unmarked.

  17.

I read this article from the NY Daily News that MSNBC news chief Andrew Lack is contemplating a name change. http://nydn.us/1GHp8wU

    This is a great idea.

When the change-up comes in, the name should be a major part, especially since Microsoft isn't half-owner of the network anymore and their to-be-former left-leaning image is waning hard. I suggest...shfit, like their digital online network. Because something like NBC News Network is more than a stretch for more than one obvious reason. And thinking of a name to create for this network is hard.

    Thoughts?
