  1. WOIO/WUAB tried adding at least one veteran investigative reporter after Carl Monday left, but it didn't work out too well. First came Alan Cohn from Sarasota, then he quit to try running for office in Florida, yet didn't make a good impression in the newsroom. Then Ronnie Dahl from Detroit was brought in, but was shown the door after only two months. The two stations have not brought in anyone on the same level as those two as of right now.
  2. At least things are looking up for WUAB. You have to give the station effort putting more into its programming from the CW affiliation to the new monster movie show. Even the syndicated daytime lineup today is better than several years ago on 43. I will add that Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune has added some stability for WOIO after the 7-8pm slot saw a revolving door of shows come and go for ten years between 2002 and '12. What both stations need are stronger anchor teams for its newscasts with a stronger set of reporters to boot, and not the ones that will leave in dramatic fashion that will end up in both Newsblues and FTVLive. The Action era set the bar very high, it will be hard to match that, but I think with a better ND, it could happen. Tanchak was originally supposed to be axed from WOIO/WUAB when Dominic Mancuso and Fred D'Ambrosi were running the stations and starting the "Cleveland 19" franchise. Then it was decided for Tanchak to stay, but to no longer be the Chief Meteorologist. The stations hired Jason Nicholas from WEWS with Tanchak tag-teaming him. Then, it was when the switch with Samantha Roberts came. A lot of the anchors and reporters started leaving even before "19 Action News" became "Cleveland 19 News" when Ed Gallek went to WJW and Dawn Kendrick went to WKYC. Lynna and Danielle both deserve better over and WKYC. A lot of good reporters who got passed over while a lot of hires were made for anchor positions that were created made absolutely no sense.
  3. WOIO/WUAB has been a mess for quite some time now. The revolving door is the worst, especially with on-air talent. Any of the attempts to replace some of the longtime personnel has not worked out too well, and some new hires have come and gone. One reporter from Detroit was let go after only two months. Another from Florida left after nine months. The weather and sports teams have been a lot more stable than the news anchor and reporting teams. What is funny is that the management behind the "Cleveland 19" fiasco wanted Jeff Tanchak gone, but gave up on that idea when got out on that plan and his fans got upset. Yet, that didn't stop others like David Wittman, Denise Dufala, Catherine Bosley, Beth McLeod and many more from leaving after that (botched) makeover was launched, which ended up not working (along with the Romona Robinson-Mark Nolan reunion). Plus, some of the hires during that period didn't pan out and that management ended up getting the boot. Now, the stations are trying to go back to the "Action News" glory days with actually using that name, but only portions of it and some of the talent from that period.
  4. Apparently, WKYC is in third place (even fourth at times) according to this email. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/9/15/the-inbox
  5. WOIO just launched a new one-hour 11am newscast on WUAB with Jamie Sullivan anchoring and Jeff Tanchak on weather.
  6. Has WOIO hired a new investigative reporter? I know their last two attempts after Carl Monday's departure (the guy from Florida, the woman from Michigan) didn't pan out too well. Speaking of 19, they brought back Ronnie Duncan, who used to do sports from 1995 to 2001, but as a news reporter.
  7. Is it safe to say that WBNX is doing just fine, maybe even better, as an independent station now that they have acquired a lot of shows from other stations? It looks like they have survived losing the CW affiliation.
  8. I thought WBNS would go after Mark Taylor after he left WCMH to replace Revish. Wouldn't a more familiar face be a better option to join the evening desk as opposed to someone from another market?
  9. (Cross posted from another thread) According to TV Passport, WOIO 19 in Cleveland is launching a new 3pm newscast on September 14. They are also launching a new 11am newscast on WUAB 43.
  10. Laura Caso looks to be out at WKYC after only a few weeks. https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/4/24/cleveland-anchor-is-m-i-a
  11. BIG NEWS!!! https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/3/6/breaking-gary-makes-offer-to-buy-tegna
  12. JUST IN!!! https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2020/3/6/breaking-gary-makes-offer-to-buy-tegna
  13. Michael Estime to leave WKYC around May according to FTVLive. That same article also touched on the station's ratings problems in February:
  14. I won't be surprised if WEWS goes outside of the station to replace Danita for evenings. WKYC is beyond a trainwreck in the mornings (with Dave Chudowsky covering the Indians' spring training, they're having Jay Crawford filling-in on Tuesday morning), but WOIO seems like they are rebounding. They are stabilizing a bit with their current team, and having Jeff Tanchak back on the AM was a smart move. Jamie Sullivan also came back to the station a few years ago in the same spot she used to be in. "19 News" is a HUGE improvement over "Cleveland 19."
  15. Could Mark Johnson end up following Danita to mornings, and switch places with Trent Magill on evenings? I mean, Frank Wiley, who has been filling in on mornings with Trent and Katie Ussin, is currently on evenings.
  16. Angley ended up settling with the accuser. https://www.wkyc.com/article/life/faith/ernest-angley-expastor-settle-lawsuit-alleging-sexual-abuse/95-d37ba277-67fd-47d0-aef5-9b2aaac90e4e
  17. Laura Caso is joining WKYC in Cleveland from WAVY in Norfolk. She will be joining Russ Mitchell on the 6pm newscast, and might pickup some more anchoring duties once Sara Shookman goes on maternity leave.
  18. Terrence Lee is leaving WEWS, and is headed for Chicago. His final newscast on Good Morning Cleveland is February 7.
  19. Here is WKYC's new lineup starting January 13: 11 a.m. – Kelly Clarkson noon – Live on Lakeside 1 p.m. – Days of Our Lives 2 p.m. – Daily Blast Live (x2) 3 p.m. – Dr. Phil 4 p.m. – Ellen 5 p.m. – 3 News at 5 p.m. (aka “What’s New”) Notice that "Lunch Break" is missing.
  20. Betsy Kling has been named co-anchor of WKYC's upcoming 5pm show with Jay Crawford. The new show is slated to start next month.
  21. WKYC announces its new 5pm team, and the show's name: "What's New with Jay Crawford and Betsy Kling" More info here. No word on who else will be part of the broadcast, and what will happen to the current 2-6pm block on 3. As for the title, it reminds of that Linda Ronstadt back in the early 1980's.
  22. (Cross-posted from "The '3' Thread" in Graphics) It appears that the new look, logo, format, and graphics are only working for WKYC at 11pm (a.k.a. "What's Next"). They have cake to prove it! https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2019/12/2/cleveland-cake-wars The 6pm, morning, and Noon programs are not doing as great as they should be. "What Matters Most" is 3rd at 6pm (my guess is WJW is 1st with WEWS at 2nd) "Go!" is tied for 2nd/3rd in the morning (likely with WEWS since WJW is 1st, though WOIO is touting in promos that they are growing in the AM ratings-wise, so they might be taking away WKYC's viewership) "Lunch Break" is 4th at Noon (the other three, including WOIO, are doing better in that slot!) I think the new "3News" is struggling a bit with only the 11pm show a success.
  23. Would anyone say that WBNX is rebounding a year after losing the CW to WUAB?
  24. It's supposed to be live, and it's also carried on social media platforms at the same time. BTW, I used to love the show until this happened: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/daily-blast-white-privilege_n_5b9abfd5e4b0b64a336d12a3 Apparently, they will have clips taken down if it puts their hosts in a bad light.
  25. At least the current graphics package at WOIO are a lot better than the "Cleveland 19" look and any of the "Action News" looks.
