CBS New Graphics Apparenly Revealed

Sorry for the outta-nowhere thread bump, but KCAL just showed a new bug in the style of the new O&O graphics theme during a segment during the 2pm newscast... it was a Black Friday themed interview/ demo for tech items that may be online a few hours from now. This may indicate a possible slow change to some new GFX for the indies that are part of those duopolies out there!

In re the small eye: I could see CBS wanting to make that the full-time logo given that it scales better to small sizes. As a designer I preach the importance of legibility at all sizes—your logo has to fit a Twitter avatar and a big billboard or vehicle wrap. And it needs to be consistent.

Also, the guidelines we have are considerably out of date and there are surely new ones used internally. In fact, the network itself (not to mention several affiliates, such as KGWC) breaks the ones we have: I saw a "COMEDY" promotion in which the CBS eye took the place of the letter O just this week.

It seems to me that the small-use eye has outlived its purpose. I think it existed so that the inside and the outside didn't appear to be touching. With high definition TV and "retina" screens, I just don't think that's an issue anymore and I don't see a reason to replace the eye that's been around for over 60 years.

WJZ also has revert graphics, to makes it looks like O&O feel(but keep old font and open).

It looks more like KC Robertson made a few in-house mods and tweaked the screen bug, but other than that, WJZ still stands in proud defiance to the CBS Standardized Graphics Package.

It would've been better if they would resurrect the Group W "2" font.

Agreed. It's basically a reincarnation of this old logo (although the gold "2" is much darker in the new logo, which I don't care for too much):

Well, hopefully someday we will see it make a return to KDKA. For now, at least they still use the Group W font on KDKA Radio's logo.

Also, if you visit KDKA, you'll see an abundance of things with the old logo. Every door is emblazoned with the old logo. The Group W font is found outside the building on the lighted signs and next to the newsroom (see my avatar).

WCCO is using three different graphic packs in some form or the other. The New L3s, the WCCO-ified open with old standard graphics and some of the animations from their previous package before standardization.

Their close has a cut of Gari's new Enforcer work that I haven't heard before. It seems like there's at least two open cuts, a bumper and this longer cut KDKA used in the close. I wonder how much more of this version is out there? And how did WCCO escape having to use the new music and open graphics?

I'm pretty sure that's just the the main closing theme. I've heard it on WBBM numerous times, but only from the 5:01 mark (in the montage video).

Is it me or is the tunnel video going backwards? Either way I still love it and love to see the other opens KDKA has for this package. They were very creative with the last package and looks like they were again with this one too.

KOVR up here is still using older Enforcer cuts for the close, so the part from 5:01 on was new to me, I like it! I just wasn't sure how much new stuff Gari has made for CBS (just a few opens and bumpers? More?) to go along with this new graphics package.

Overall, I'm still liking the new CBS graphics and think the stations are starting to get used to them and get a bit more creative with full-screens and the like.

Pittsburghs' KDKA Tue., Dec. 17th 11 pm news ran short ending with a spot on 1 minute enforcer close :-). Sounded like it was exactly a minute long.

Ugh !!! :-( Unfortunately did not capture it.

Another person posted an Enforcer close with 30 seconds of it, but the end was cut off. I think KDKA does many long closes, so maybe you can record it with good audio quality tonight?

KDKA is using a stripped underscore version of the main theme for their close.

The new voiceover is the same one that I hear on KNXV here in PHX. Don't know who it is though.

This new package is making me wish that KPHO was an O&O. KPHO doesn't really have an open and the graphics, compared to the other four stations here, are hideous.

Crap, wish I could have captured it.

If you're referring to this...I made it (I run that channel). I was disappointed to see how KDKA cut it off. I may start recording the ends of the 6pm newscast to see if I can find a good long close.

KCTV just dumped Steve Stone for him as well.

The name is escaping me.

Yeah, I was referring to your video. Since long closes are rare for most stations, can you record a short close, but has the part that was cut off in your video? Then you or I can edit it so that it flows till the end.
