TEGNA Broadcasting and Digital General Discussion

ABC 7 Denver

Recommended Posts

Me: Hey TEGNA, wanna get rid of your weather diginets that some of your stations still have?

TEGNA: Yes.

Me: Okay then, even though I like my weather diginets. What will you call this new one?

TEGNA: Quest.

Say goodbye to WHAS 11.3, WFAA 8.2, KPNX 12.2, WZZM 13.2 and others as we know it.

The concept of this network sounds like it'll air the stuff Litton does, but almost none of it is from them (except for maybe one mandatory show on the weekend). Think the old days of the Discovery Channel and others.

Does any others station have the new Tegna graphics besides ABC 10 in Sacramento? I caught WWL having a new look in some of their news graphics tonight. Overall, they still have the same ole Tegna look.

New graphics discussion is going on here. Also, it's a completely different new package, not the KXTV/WTSP package.

Dear TEGNA;

Your purchase of KFMB is a win for you, because the station ratings are tops in the market. I'm sure you've seen their revenue projections, budgets, and more. Yes, your company changing the business model and doing new things that are consider ["innovative"] However, one would like to question some of the changes you've made with Belo Stations when you purchase them several years ago.

Please, listen because these are just some coaching points. STOP FUCKING UP GOOD STATIONS. You've gotten many gems tv stations and you have turn them into BIRD DEW meaning SHIT! Let take a look at KXTV, WWL, KENS, KING, KHOU and including your own stations that were apart of the Gannett umbrella WXIA, KSDK, WTSP, WUSA, KVUE. Please, don't let your consultants gut KFMB like you've done other stations.

Please, once again STOP FUCKING UP GOOD STATIONS AND DON'T FUCK UP KFMB! We know your track record, and it not pretty. Here hoping you don't cut Barbara Lee Edwards' salary, because we know it always awesome sauce when you can make millions and the talent has to take a cut and etc. Again, DON'T FUCK UP THIS ONE, the reason why? Well let take a look at WWL 4 in New Orleans. Let see if they will be #1 in time slots in February.

Sincerely,

Those that give a damn-

KXTV wasn't owned by Belo.

KXTV is a legacy Gannettegna station. Gannettegna owned them since 1999. KVUE was owned by Gannettegna from 1986-1999 and again since 2013 (due to Gannett's purchase of Belo).

I hate to say bad things about TEGNA, but look at all the stations TEGNAitis has struck. Gannett gave WXIA, KPNX, WTSP, KXTV, and KSDK life. Then they became TEGNA, who basically took it away. TEGNAitis also struck ex-Belo stations such as WFAA and WWL. On the bright side, ex-Belo stations WFAA and KVUE made ratings gains for last month's sweeps.

KXTV wasn't owned by Belo.

KXTV was owned by Belo until 1999. In 1999, Belo traded KXTV to Gannett and got KVUE in return.

A little over the top (the KXTV thing is splitting hairs though) but I can't say I disagree.

Look at the results. WFAA, once untouchable, now isn't. WWL, never-lost-in-decades, lost for the first time.

The mass talent exodus, both on and off camera, at their legacy stations has been sad to see. It's no coincidence that many of their formerly-dominant stations have gone off the rails.

They're all about letting the social media tail wag the dog on news and hiring cheap MMJs to lug around a camera and churn out "content."

I feel like Tegna has made a business decision to forgo high ratings and instead run #2 stations at a bottom-dollar pricepoint, keeping the margins healthy. It's sad.

Or lower. For example, WXIA 11Alive going from 2nd place to 11Dead last, and KPNX going from the market leader to 3rd place (or lower). What stations are immune to Tegnaitis? Maybe KUSA, KVUE, and/or WCNC?

I hate to say bad things about Gannettegna, but a once-great company is now a shadow of what it used to be, like Sears and Kmart. The Deathstar can cause death to ratings (pun intended).

First Tegna took away WLBZ's newscasts; now they appear to be taking away its branding. Look at this tag that aired tonight on a promo for Daily Blast Live.

As per WLBZ's Wikipedia Page - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLBZ

"Although identifying as a separate station in its own right, WLBZ is considered a semi-satellite of sister station WCSH (channel 6) in Portland. WLBZ's master control, as well as some internal operations, are housed at WCSH's studios. It simulcasts most of WCSH's newscasts, and clears most of its syndicated programming (though in some cases at different times). There are also some programs that only air on WLBZ while some are only seen on WCSH. WLBZ also airs separate station identifications and commercials. Although WLBZ and WCSH are based in different locations and technically serve separate markets, the two essentially operate as one station. With their combined resources, the stations provide statewide coverage not offered by any other outlet in Maine. WLBZ serves as the default NBC affiliate for the Presque Isle market, which does not have an affiliate of its own."

The "NewsCenter Maine" branding is years overdue. "NBC Maine" would also be acceptable.

It would've been better if it was called "Maine's NewsCenter."

An animated Paul Bunyan has taken his axe to WLBZ2 and rechristened the station as NEWS CENTER Maine - but the old WLBZ2 logo still appears on the station bug and promos.

In another ident, a lighthouse shows the old logo pointing left and the new one pointing right - with the new one eventually taking over the frame

That lighthouse reminds me a little of the current Scripps ID. Interesting for both of them.
