Posting this in as I believe the graphics KHBS/KHOG used in 1994 were similar to the ones WNYT’s 1988-1991 “News 13” Package was (I’ve seen pics online of their GFX and they looked similar).

A KSDK promo from 1997. Strange that what was then a Gannett station used a modified version of the Hearst "Camera" package, and a logo animation similar to what those stations used at that time in this promo.

Dang, that is one heck of a Hearst-Argyle camera graphics package being ripped off there! So we got KSDK ripping it off, then followed by KEZI in 1999 and Granada Tonight in 2000. Wow!

Scott Jones of FTV live poses the question of who copied who? WTAE or WATE?

https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2018/9/26/whos-copying-who

Other than the similar color schemes, call letter font and call letter differences, that's where the similarity ends IMHO....

I will have to fault Media General for copying Scripps for their on air look of WATE and several other of their stations...

I don't know if it's already been mentioned here, but there were traces of WOIO's 1995 package in adjacent market WFMJ's 1996 look...

The most apparent was the Weather and Sports intros...using a weird hybrid of scrolling Helvetica on top and Bodoni on the bottom spelling out "WEATHER" and "SPORTS"

Here's WOIO....

and WFMJ....

Got to love adjacent markets ripping each other off. Columbus stations were easily accessible in Dayton, likewise with WOIO being available in Youngstown (since it was their default FOX affiliate until 1994...and still available post switch until the late 90s after WKBN started their own affiliates...)

World Taekwando Grand Slam Series using a recreation of the previous OBS/Olympics graphics (London/Sochi). Honestly these look better than the original only because they're at least using a font other than Arial Narrow.

Here’s a rip off of the early 2000s CBS Evening News graphics package

That's not a rip-off, that's the actual package. At the time, CBS syndicated the look to affiliates like WGCL who needed a quick cheap look to hide reminents of the failed Clear News concept.

My mistake. Still, it’s pretty odd to see it being used by a local station.

Here it is in action, by the way:

SaskTel is streaming some all-star "showcase" games between Manitoba and Saskatchewan's junior A hockey teams. This scoreboard looks eerily reminiscent of Sportsnet's, kinda in between the one they had before the 2014 graphics/new NHL deal, and the current one.

So the current version of this PC football game series Axis Football has a scoreboard reminiscent of the current Fox graphics

On the other hand, the 2017 version seems to take after CBS

Either way, the older you get, the more they start to look like preseason.

KIDK has elements pretty similar to WBBM.

...and WBBM’s 2007 talent opens at the time were based off CBS’ 2005 branding.

WSIL ripped off KSTP's old logo one  time

WPSD's logo also looks like WKMG's old logo

175?cb=20111217231027

133?cb=20160905180255

As for WSIL, they used a font/logotype that other stations used - KHTV/39 in Houston used a similar (of not the same) 3 in their 39 logo.  Back in the day, your options were more limited, mostly, since you didn’t have millions of fonts to chose from - and everything was edited by hand, be it using something like ChartPak rub-on letters or film/pictures from a typesetter to create ads.

As for WPSD and WKMG, they both use the “Local #” branding, possibly from the same creative design agency, but the fonts and obliqueness of the graphic are distinctly different.  For a better example, compare WCBS, WBBM and KCBS’s logos, or any of the numerous ABC Circle-7 logos...

There were a lot of funky/fatface logos, so it's more of a trend than anything from the 70s that lingered well into the 80s with some stations.
