CircleSeven 1955
I don't think anybody mentioned that Sinclair has a deal in place to buy KUQI in Corpus Christi for $9.25M. That's a reasonable price. It will be interesting to see if they're planning on keeping it a stand-alone operation or if they're planning on partnering with KIII/Tegna on a shared services or if they hub it out to the point where the only things to find locally is a small sales office and a transmitter. Yes I did..... Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/17/#findComment-137848 Share on other sites

mvcg66b3r 100
Well, it happened. FOX is now only on WTVC 9.2 in Chattanooga, and has changed its branding from "FOX 61" to "FOX Chattanooga". WDSI meanwhile has ThisTV on 61.1 and Comet TV on 61.2. MNT has moved to WFLI 53.2. Chattanooga is now the largest market (and first Top 100 market) to have FOX on a subchannel of a Big 3 station. http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=22590#station http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=72060#station http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php?request=station_search&callsign=22590#station Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/17/#findComment-138661 Share on other sites
mvcg66b3r 100
And if it can happen in Chattanooga, could it happen in say, Portland ME? Right now FOX is on WPFO 23.1, which doesn't really reach far southern Maine or the New Hampshire counties in the market. Sinclair could put FOX on WGME 13.2 and shift GetTV to 13.3. WPFO would have Grit on 23.1 and Comet TV on 23.2. Coverage Maps: WGME: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1163014&map=Y WPFO: http://www.rabbitears.info/contour.php?appid=1316507&map=Y Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/17/#findComment-138665 Share on other sites
tyrannical bastard 3933
....basically anywhere Sinclair has a third or 4th wheel. Move the primary stations on to the strongest channel and put the secondary stations onto the strongest station outside of the top 4. Deerfield then can have all of the diginets on the other station in the top 4 and the 4th station is spectrum bait. It's also worth noting that with the new rebrand, the newscasts on Fox Chattanooga got the new graphics. CircleSeven 1955
And it's looks like IWCC is one step closer to closing it's books for good, because the sale of KVMY to HSH was closed on Friday. Only the properties in Northern NV remains for now (KRNV/KENV). 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/17/#findComment-138947 Share on other sites
CircleSeven 1955
New M&A This Morning, and it appears they've won the big Pappas prize. As Sinclair released it's Q3 earnings this AM, it announced that it'll acquire KFXL & the NTV stations from the trust for $31.25M. That's disappointing, but not surprising. They'll probably have one of their sidecars acquire KLKN (most likely HSH), and move ABC in Lincoln to the main channel of KFXL and then have Fox moved to .2 . KLKN will then probably show some digi-net Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/13758-sinclair-broadcast-group-general-discussion/page/17/#findComment-138954 Share on other sites

Samantha 2895
I could see Mr. Cieloha's long rant once again.... It's the end of a years-long saga. Sinclair should at least get these stations up to speed where investment might have been missing in recent years. The move also reunites NTV with a number of former Pappas stations, including KPTM in Omaha. The NTV staff also have to be at least happy with the certainty a new owner might bring. bobvick 9
Chattanooga is now the largest market (and first Top 100 market) to have FOX on a subchannel of a Big 3 station. Kind of like Birmingham and ABC. A top 50 market with full power ABC on three subchannels. Although I suppose they do get even better coverage than they did before, and technically the LD station is the affiliate. I always have wondered why they didn't take WTTO 21 and make it ABC on 21.1 and brand as ABC 21. I suppose they have their reasons. TheRolyPoly 2362
Idk if this has been talked about before in this thread, but here's the reason why WPMI 15 had to cancel their 4:30am newscast earlier this year and I didn't know about it: WPMI cancelled their 4:30am show in June 2015 due to an FCC rule limiting the amount of hours of news a broadcast company can air in a television market. Since Sinclair Broadcast Group owns both WEAR-TV and WPMI-TV with many hours of news on each station' date=' the 4:30 to 5am half hour exceeded the FCC limit for hours of news. To comply, the 4:30 half hour was dropped and no weekend morning news could be added to their lineup. WPMI is the only station in the Mobile/Pensacola market not producing a weekend morning newscast. WJTC UTV44 newscasts at 6:30 and 9 pm were retained, as news on that channel did not factor into the FCC's limit on news.[/quote'] Is this true? Opinions on this? Opinions on this? It's because under the rules, Sinclair can only provide up to 15% of WPMI's and WJTC's programming without being deemed to hold an "attributable" interest in WPMI and WJTC. If Sinclair held an "attributable" interest in them, they would exceed the ownership cap due to already owning WEAR and WFGX. However, the Wikipedia article is incorrect in saying that there is a limit on how much news a company can air in a market because it's really a limit on how much programming Sinclair can provide to WPMI and WJTC. Mrtraveler01 738
This is a pretty Sinclair move. But not too surprising, they seem to want their viewers either afraid or outraged over something (even their Town Halls are politicized), even more so than other members of the "mainstream media" which really aren't that much better. Just another example of what a joke Sinclair is when it comes to journalism. In fact, they should buy a 20% stake in Fox Sports and simulcast NFL games involving teams in their respective NFL markets that Sinclair's stations are in, the same way Hearst does with ESPN to compensate for their (Sinclair's) lack of quality when it comes to journalism.
