alaskanews 113
I'm guessing Houston's sweeps are like this: KTRK #1, KHOU #2, KPRC #3, and KRIV #4. KPRC has been on the rise for a while, and they're claiming victory in plenty of timeslots. rkolsen 1684
I think the poster you quoted said that they did recently rebrand to this. Thanks for mentioning it. It's clear I shouldn't be posting in the middle of the night. From what patsx3 said it seemed like they just moved the same people into a new house so too speak. Keeping with this bad metaphor they should have tried remodeling their old house before buying new one. It's like some of you have mentioned NBC seems to build a new set thinking it will cause a significant boost in the ratings. But back to WBZ I haven't seen their newscast but I'd imagine it's like every other morning show. I would cut some of the fluff and go for stories that aren't typically covered during morning local news. I would even try either rerunning the big franchise stories you would see at 11PM in the AM (I've only seen those pieces replayed the next evenings newscast) or maybe they could do a first run piece in the morning. scrabbleship 429
IIRC the single anchor experiment at WBZ weekday mornings ended quick. Even they got the memo it was foolish. Single anchors all weekend looks foolish, Boston isn't say Albany. tw-804 192
Then what about Phoenix and Tampa Bay? I don't know about Phoenix, but the "Tampa Bay Times" - and its predecessor "St. Petersburg Times" - used to post the area's TV ratings in its "The Feed" blog. But after TV critic Eric Deggans left the paper in 2013 for NPR, they haven't posted the TV ratings since. WXmanTim 88
Is KPRC #1 in demos and KTRK #1 in HH? The Chron is horrible about posting the sweeps results, by station & time slot, so we're left with the press releases each stations send out (and published by Mcguff: http://mikemcguff.blogspot.com/2015/02/univision-45-kxln-wins-during-february-2015-houston-sweeps.html?m=1). KXLN-Univision tops all the stations at 5 & 10 in the 25-54 demo. KPRC is the top ENG station in Houston (demo) at 5 & 10. Unfortunately, I no longer have access to the daily ratings report (I'm no longer working at Fox, or in television), but one of my former co-workers says KRIV is tops 7-9 am (against the networks) and came in number 2 at 6 am this book. rkolsen 1684
Is it wrong that I feel a certain amount schadenfreude when a stations beats the long dominant market leader? I don't want them to have a fall from grace but I would like it to be more neck in neck than a slam dunk. After a while in dominance it seems like stations and shows get a little too cocky like the Today show was and WSB is. I get the impression that the people at WSB think that there shit doesn't stink. There have been several instances where I've been turned off by them the first of which was their promo that touted that a man who took hostages where he told the secretary to contact WSB. The other has been several instances on twitter where the talent is seems to beat their chests a little too often. We all know WSB is hands down #1 their numbers will be out shortly, but on another site I read that the folks at WSB doesn't believe WAGA, WXIA, WGCL are their competitors. This is what I read and I think the competition has disdain for WSB, but WSB believes their main competition is WPVI, WABC, because WSB has the highest ratings and shares, and the two owned and operated ABC stations are highly rated. They believe those are their competitors. Which their not in those markets, but they totally dismissed FOX 5, 11Alive, CBS46. As much as I like WSB, I wish WAGA and WXIA could challeneged WSB, like DFW market does, but it won't because WSB owns the market. I can see where WSB would think WPVI & WABC are their main competitors being that those stations are dominant ABC Stations, just as WSB is a dominant ABC affiliate. In a way WPVI & WABC are like the Yankees and Patriots of local TV news. And lets not forget that WSB follows the "Action News" format which 'PVI started back in the 70's. WSB should be an ABC O&O and ABC should sale WTVD in Raleigh Durham, but the likelihood of COX giving up that cash cow is slim to none. fan of la tv 47
Here are the ratings for Los Angeles. T This comes from the Franklin Avenue site: http://franklinavenue.blogspot.com/2015/02/la-february-tv-ratings-everyones-winner.html As usual, KABC took the local February sweeps crown in households, winning what the station says is its 124th consecutive non-Olympic survey period among households. And in the key Monday to Sunday 11 p.m. news race among adults 25-54, KABC was tops (1.3 rating) over KNBC (1.1) and KCBS (1.0). But on the weekdays, this may be the oddest February sweeps in local Los Angeles TV ever. In the key adult 25-54 demographic at 11 p.m., rivals KABC, KNBC and KCBS all tied for No. 1 on the weekdays, with a 1.1 rating. (In total viewers, KABC remained champ, although was down from November.) Going back to at least 1989, this is the first time insiders say they've ever seen KCBS, KNBC and KABC tie for #1 in weekday late news during a major sweep in adults 25-54 – the primary demo for news. But that's not all: Adding to the unusual month, the three major stations with news at 10 p.m. (KTLA, KTTV and KCAL) also all virtually tied, with a 1.0 rating each. I always preface these ratings by reminding you that sweeps really shouldn't matter in Los Angeles any more -- the local market is now measured every day via personal people meters. But old habits die hard, and the local stations compete heavily in November, February and May as if it still mattered. It's also hard to do apples-to-apples comparisons with last February, since the Winter Olympics skews those totals. So instead, this time I'll compare the ratings to the last major sweeps period in November 2014. Beyond the ties, it was a strange month. KABC saw huge gains at 6 p.m., yet a big drop at 11 p.m. -- despite the fact that it won primetime for the month. KTLA Morning News regained the crown as the most-watched morning show, and "CBS This Morning" on KCBS narrowly edged out "Today" on KNBC. Here are the February total viewers weekday ratings for the Los Angeles market, Monday through Friday in key news timeslots (as well as Monday through Sunday in primetime). 4:30 am KABC 74,000 (in November 93,800) KTLA 43,000 (in November 41,500) KNBC 37,000 (in November 23,600) KCBS 26,000 (in November 16,400) KTTV 9,000 (in November 10,400) 5am KABC 98,000 (in November 135,000) KTLA 87,000 (in November 93,100) KNBC 46,000 (in November 37,800) KTTV 39,000 (in November 36,800) KCBS 35,000 (in November 27,300) 6am KABC 181,000 (in November 192,700) KTLA 165,000 (in November 182,400) KTTV 76,000 (in November 72,800) KNBC 75,000 (in November 66,400) KCBS 53,000 (in November 46,600) 7am KTLA/Morning News 208,900 (in November 208,000) KABC/Good Morning America 206,000 (in November 213,500) KCBS/CBS This Morning 88,000 (in November 74,700) KNBC/Today 86,000 (in November 95,900) KTTV/Good Day LA 81,000 (in November 67,600) 5pm KABC 246,000 (in November 245,600) KNBC 143,000 (in November 139,600) KCBS 115,000 (in November 108,900) KTTV 49,000 (in November 48,200) 6pm KABC 328,000 (in November 277,500) KNBC 145,000 (in November 147,200) KCBS 102,000 (in November 97,200) KTLA 79,000 (in November 58,900) Primetime (Monday through Sunday) KABC/ABC 367,000 KCBS/CBS 366,000 KNBC/NBC 239,000 KTTV/Fox 200,000 10pm KCAL 167,000 (in November 156,100) KTLA 136,000 (in November 126,500) KTTV 116,000 (in November 76,900) 11pm KABC 250,000 (in November 335,900) KCBS 211,000 (in November 215,000) KNBC 177,000 (in November 159,000) KTLA 80,000 (in November 83,000) Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/14240-february-2015-sweeps-results/page/3/#findComment-124503 Share on other sites

KTLA 5 Morning News is smoking KTTV 11's Good Day LA, BIG time and that KABC 7's 6:00 p.m. newscast is the only station to reach 300k+ while everybody else is at 100k+. That's crazy and mind boggling to me. It just shows you how good KABC 7 is. johnnya2k6 171
Well, here's WAGA's...at least for their late news (WSB pretty much owned everything else as usual): Quite frankly, I think the fight to save Bobbi Kristina Brown's (daughter of Bobby Brown and the late Whitney Houston) life and the late February winter storm proved to be beneficial for WAGA. Primetime (among total viewers): I think WAGA also had the advantage thanks to Empire, followed by WXIA, WSB, and WGCL.
