New WABC music on the net....

Ok, so I've known what the new EWN NewGen music was going to sound like for WABC for a while now, but just discovered Gari has it posted on his website already, so I'm going to direct you all there to have a listen for yourself.

It's ABCNews NewGeneration 2. Well, that's the official GariComm title.

Anyway, it's important that you don't pay attention to the entire clip, because there are parts which are irrelevant to WABC. The parts which are important are the first clip, the second clip, the clip that begins at 1:15, and the last clip (the outro). Keep in mind, the new WABC opens aren't done yet, so the clips you'll be seeing are using KABC graphics and v/o.

the link is http://www.garicomm.com

click "skip intro"

"music and sound"

"news packages"

"O&O/Affiliate News Packages"

"ABC News NewGeneration2"

you'll then find the clips I'm talking about. This is what you will hear hit the airwaves come the fall.

I don't get why you are all dissing it, it's awesome! It's got that modern metropolis sound to it, just what New York needed! But, it does sound a bit more like something you'd see on Action News, that would be perfect for WXYZ though...they use EWN Series 1 right now

Actually I love KABC's version and WFTV's version of EWN New Generation but this version sounds like someone took the original EWN New Generation and slowed it down, which I don't like. Kind of like how X2 sounds like a cockeyed version of X Package, like something's missing from it. It needs a more hard northeastern feel to it (WFSB-Advantage, WBAL/WCVB-Image, WCVB-Big News, etc.)

To me it has that sunny, SoCal, tabiloidy feel to it, not the gritty, tough, hard news feel of NY. I guess we'll just have to get used to it however.

Well it fits to KABC, not WABC. WABC should stick with Series 4. It's more WABC if you understand what I mean.

It's horrible. Definanly not NY style. I thought they were going to use the Texas ABC 13 one, which is alot better.

Yeah the ABC 13 version suits New York a lot more than that theme. And plus it sounds way too similar to KABC-TV's cuts which are suited for them since they are Los Angeles and its typical for them, but its gonna take a long time to adjust to this theme, I hope they switch to KTRK's ABC 13 theme, which is 10x better. And what DMA said, is completely 100% true. It has that sunshine Tabloidish Los Angeles or Miami feel to it rather than a gritty more serious feel which is what New York is, but who knows maybe they'll probably see this and change it to something else.

And quick question did KABC already change their theme? Because why are they using KABC's open for those cuts? Or did they just want to add "eye-candy" to see how it sounds with video?

KABC's graphics are hardly eye candy. They just do not suit the EWN theme at all. KABC should have gone hothaus when they lauched their HD newscasts last year.

Their graphics were done in house and are basically an updated version of their previous graphic package. It is better than what they had before though, but not the best.

-Vlad

I don't think this is gonna sit well with viewers, and they'll end up changing it back. Something like this happened in the UK, on a Nightline type show called Newsnight, they changed the theme, and there was an outcry from longtime viewers, and they changed it back.

Eh get over yourselves. This isn't anywhere near say WPVI changing their theme.

You know when thinking of it this afternoon and listening to it over and over again, (thats just how I am, lol). I really do not think its that bad, its not too great but not too bad niether. But we all felt the same way about their current music as well when they had changed in 1999. (Sounds too affirmative, or its too brassy, and other weird comments, lol), anyway, this is definitely a change that we'll just have to accept. It is the 2000s and that theme does sound like it. We're no longer in the past anymore we're in the future, lol. That signature we hear in the KABC opens will probably not be the same. It will probably have the current signature that WABC has (they like to keep things consistent). Overall, not too bad. But ABC 13 will probably better suit them, they've been with their current cuts for about 8 years now. Series 1 of EWN, will always be my all time favorite though.

KABC is using a slightly different version of the NG theme. It has just a little more pep to it than the original debut they used when KABC went HD.

Take a listen for yourself, exclusively by http://www.abc7FanSite.com [sorry about it sounding a little choppy...]

Best,

That is exactly the one nynewsguy had posted, so that means that WABC and KABC will perhaps have the same music. That version is what WABC will use according to nynewsguy. Hmm so I guess the originality of the stations are gone :(. WLS will still be the best! :D.

-Vlad

Whewww. I was about to say. BTW this is yet another never-ending chapter of the Eyewitness News package which has a very smoother version of the original New Generation Package. As what Vlad stated, the opening music that KTRK currently used was made distinctively for WABC but since 13 had first crack at it, Gari then created a custom package for WABC. I believe that was the reason why the WABC Signature Cuts were decommissioned to other stations once the New Generation themes were implemented.

Some of the NG2 cuts are also appropriate for former O&O WXYZ if they ever change their current theme. But pretty soon every station that used the Original Package will eventually use the NG themes (like most of those stations haven't used it).

IMHO, this is another reason why Chris Gari and his lovely team in Cali to push these ABC Stations to use the EWN Package by updating their themes on a regular basis. It's the same thing with pushing these CBS Stations to use the Enforcer NG package. I guess people from the Southland got tired of the "Rosie on an accordian" music, so they want to hear a fresh new sound. The tune sounds somewhat familiar to what they used for more then a decade before changing their theme in February of 2006. And even if WABC uses their new custom cuts, it will still be pretty hard to adjust to after hearing the same theme for more then 8 years. All I have to say, as long as the Graphics suits the music and the set is a bad-ass, everything will be fine for the Tri-State's #1 Station in the fall.

I believe that they will still remain with their current set at least for the time being. The current set will be used for the for the Noon and 5PM broadcast, once the new massive set is built. There will be some sort of projection or green screen behind the anchors which will have a Live picture of the Manhattan Skyline, or perhaps that Live Shot in which they use that has the Empire State Building. The new set will debut in time for the November 2007 Sweeps, if not then more than likely it will be available by February 2007. The current set will remain intact though and will be used for the Noon and 5PM broadcasts, there may be a slight update but I believe it may be the same. Considering how much they must've spent to restore the set from the fire that nearly destroyed it.

Vlad is right. The current set will be incorporated into the TV13 SuperStudio once it's built. This allows WABC to use their set while the construction is taking place on the other side of the wall. Eventually, the current space that WABC occupies will be used for the morning set, but that's not until the new 6 & 11PM set debuts, and the current one is moved to the space currently used by Regis & Kelly. Then, construction will begin on the morning set. It's going to take place in "stages" for lack of a better word.

Their will be a rear projection behind the set, it's not going to be chromakey. It will have a live shot from Number 1 Times Square looking south, so it will actually be a view of Manhattan, from Manhattan, not from NJ or Brooklyn.

Getting back on topic, I really think I like those cuts. And live Vlad said, we had some criticism when series IV debuted, but we adjusted. And we'll adjust to NGII. Just as long as their cut selection is... for lack of a better word, "sound". ;D
