What that signal maps to via PSIP though I have no idea. Presumably WLVI continues to map to 56.1 as others have said. The article said that WLVI was sold in the spectrum auction - in a sense that means the channel is no longer available. NBC would not be able to purchase it.

Basically it will be from WHDH Ch. 42 and have four streams on it, if WHDH wants it that way. 7.1 - Ind and 7.2 - This (RF-42) 56.1 - CW and 56.2 - Buzzr (RF-41, soon to RF-42)

Yep. But whatever the new RF channel they'll be on, both stations will share that allotment. The new TV band will be channels 2-36 (38-51 will be used for the wireless band). We won't know what channel WHDH will be on post-repack until the FCC release the new post-repack allotments (once the full auction is completed). But that's unless Ansin says which channel he's moving on (since the quiet period is over), but he doesn't have to say.

Stations that channel share will keep their call sign and virtual channel number, they'll just be splitting the bandwidth.

The obvious answer is that WLVI will continue to operate on a subchannel of WHDH and retain the CW affiliation. There was speculation (there's that word again) that CBS O&O WSBK would take the CW affiliation upon expiration of the agreement with Sunbeam, so who knows what the long-term scenario is.

The original affiliation agreement (inherited from Tribune ownership, when their chain affiliated with the network) ran out last September. I can't believe that it would have continued without an additional long-term contract. If WSBK would have claimed the affiliation, it would have happened by then.

On the occasions when the Boston area's had a major winter storm, WBZ has moved CBS programming over to WSBK so that it can provide extended coverage of the storm. As far as I know, WHDH never pre-empted CW programming on WLVI so it can move NBC programming over there while 7 has weather coverage; I wouldn't be surprised if the CW's affiliation agreement explicitly forbids it. (I wouldn't blame them.)

(I wouldn't blame them.) KYW does the exact same thing with WPSG here in Philadelphia, so I don't see the problem
