Not bad.

Spread to Facebook and the First Alert 5 logo. Not online or probably on-air yet.

EDIT: Also spread over to News 5 NOW. You can see the new logos in action at koaa.titantv.com

What to say about this logo.

The mountains, despite looking quite decently traced for a television station logo; unfortunately falls over. One major point: it's pretty distracting. The pinnacles are taking away the emphasis from the numeral 5 - meaning that a quick glance would require a few more milliseconds for the viewer to process since its so tightly condensed. Everyone's very familiar to see a solid stroke inside the number 5 and the mountains alone is already creating a problem.

Secondly, how in the world will those mountains be rendered in 3D? If we take a quick look at

, there's no doubt they make some moderate usage of the 3D environment. In that case, would this mean the mountains will be 'engraved' within the 5 or pasted 'on top' of the 5? I'm expecting some hodgepodges for the years to come.

Is this a great logo? No. Groundbreaking? Definitely not. Is it at least decent? Sure.

You can see the new logo poorly animated in the bug of this image:

The kerning of the typeface is ridiculous.

KOA A?

KOA A?

While it's a side-effect of the font kerning here, KOAA's call letters originated from former sister station KOA (now KCNC) when they were co-owned by Metropolitan Broadcasting back in the 1960s.

As far as ripoffs go, the open isn't that bad. The L3s and over the shoulders are bleh. The logo isn't that bad either. It's an improvement from their last logo.

The logo isn't bad at all, however the mountains might have worked better if they were coming out the top of the 5 so it would actually look like they're rising from flat land rather than being placed in the middle.

It would've looked better if the mountains were integrated into the AA part of the call letters and not inside the number 5.

Kerning on "AA" is tough...

I like the open - definitely an improvement over the previous one.

My favorite KOAA logo was the 2009-2011 logo - using the negative space for the five. IMHO, that was distinctive.
