MichiganNewsGraphicsJunkie 949 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Finally a decent logo after so many disastrous ones
ABC 7 Denver 1729 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 Finally a decent logo after so many disastrous ones No. God! Excuse me while I vomit!
Journalist 894 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 What to say about this logo. The mountains, despite looking quite decently traced for a television station logo; unfortunately falls over. One major point: it's pretty distracting. The pinnacles are taking away the emphasis from the numeral 5 - meaning that a quick glance would require a few more milliseconds for the viewer to process since its so tightly condensed. Everyone's very familiar to see a solid stroke inside the number 5 and the mountains alone is already creating a problem. Secondly, how in the world will those mountains be rendered in 3D? If we take a quick look at , there's no doubt they make some moderate usage of the 3D environment. In that case, would this mean the mountains will be 'engraved' within the 5 or pasted 'on top' of the 5? I'm expecting some hodgepodges for the years to come. Is this a great logo? No. Groundbreaking? Definitely not. Is it at least decent? Sure.
NEOMatrix 1307 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 i'll take this over the generic-ness of WEWS' "Hurl 5" any day.
Action Newsroom 1300 Posted January 22, 2017 Posted January 22, 2017 It's an alright-looking logo. The mountain (silhouettes) look kinda nice. None too special, yes, but it definitely serves it's purpose.

Samantha 2902 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 It's...OK. The primary purpose is probably to distinguish this station from other NBC 5s on social media, I'd guess.
TheRolyPoly 2592 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 Considering that it serves a part of the Rocky Mountains, don't be surprised that's in the logo.

atlnews2 596 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 their new graphics are a scripps ripoff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=wD2rwJuXMM0;t=0
Samantha 2902 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 The open, most definitely. The lower thirds and other elements are...really awkward.
ABC 7 Denver 1729 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 their new graphics are a scripps ripoff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=wD2rwJuXMM0;t=0 Keep in mind, that just one market away is Scripps' KMGH.
tyrannical bastard 4036 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 The kerning of the typeface is ridiculous. KOA A? While it's a side-effect of the font kerning here, KOAA's call letters originated from former sister station KOA (now KCNC) when they were co-owned by Metropolitan Broadcasting back in the 1960s.
LexTVandRadio 418 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 their new graphics are a scripps ripoff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=id=wD2rwJuXMM0;t=0 Oh yeah... That is Scripps for sure! I hope they don't push that to all of their stations.
sfomspphl 498 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 It's not perfect, but they get an 'A' for trying to be distinctive, and local.
WFTV Channel 9 80 Posted January 23, 2017 Posted January 23, 2017 As far as ripoffs go, the open isn't that bad. The L3s and over the shoulders are bleh. The logo isn't that bad either. It's an improvement from their last logo.
MidwestTV 1247 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 The logo isn't bad at all, however the mountains might have worked better if they were coming out the top of the 5 so it would actually look like they're rising from flat land rather than being placed in the middle.
RCA TK47 277 Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 It would've looked better if the mountains were integrated into the AA part of the call letters and not inside the number 5.
compubit 675 Posted January 28, 2017 Posted January 28, 2017 Kerning on "AA" is tough... I like the open - definitely an improvement over the previous one. My favorite KOAA logo was the 2009-2011 logo - using the negative space for the five. IMHO, that was distinctive. J
