NEOMatrix 1299
And this is the picture of Angely that they went with, which seems fitting. [spoiler=Don’t say I didn’t warn you...] Hide your children! But seriously, you would think that Scripps, Tegna, or Tribune would hop at sending a Brinks truck to Cuyahoga Falls. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16141-winston-broadcasting-network-clevelandakron/page/2/#findComment-212283 Share on other sites

The assisted living place where my grandma is always makes her look real pretty when we come to visit. Oh....and BTW... Rusty Muck 4368
And he's 96. When will he just give it up by 1) retire and 2) sell WBNX-TV? That station is desperate for a new owner to get away from the deeply and severely troubled Angley ministries. It’s obvious Ernest wants to be the next Gene Scott and literally take the station into the grave with him. Even without the CW, it’s still a source of easy income, and he had to have foreseen that when he bought the license from Rex Humbard’s estate 35 years ago. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16141-winston-broadcasting-network-clevelandakron/page/2/#findComment-212294 Share on other sites

tyrannical bastard 3948
Let's say this type of thing happened with a station owner of a major group. The investors would be calling for their heads, advertisers would pull their accounts, and the FCC could strip them of their licenses. It all depends on the "abuse" aspect....if it was consensual, that's one thing. It's a sin in it's context, but that's another ballgame in the eyes of the FCC beyond their jurisdiction. This saga will probably keep on going until Rev. Angley goes upstairs, or the money runs dry and the sheriff sale sells the property to the highest bidder.... tyrannical bastard 3948
Part deux.... https://www.ohio.com/news/20190121/split-with-ernest-angley-tough-for-his-assistant And here's an article from Cleveland Scene talking about Rex Humbard, considered the "founder" of televangelism, and how his former empire ended up in Ernest Angley's hands. https://m.clevescene.com/cleveland/jesus-for-sale/Content?oid=1503067 The article doesn't mention that Humbard originally had a permit to sign on WCOT Channel 55 and would have broadcast from the now-unfinished "tower" in the property. He started construction in the 1970s, and Angley's ministry resurrected the TV facility's construction and bought the Channel 55 CP to sign on WBNX in 1985. tyrannical bastard 3948
We have a sheriff's sale! (sorta) https://www.ohio.com/news/20190427/former-cathedral-buffet-in-cuyahoga-falls-headed-for-foreclosure-sale What this means for WBNX itself is unclear. The article mentions only the buffet itself, but the entire building (and land parcel) houses WBNX's studios and offices. The cathedral is a separate property and the unfinished tower and a small piece of land connecting it to the main road is owned by Krieger Holdings, who owns a farmers market in Cuyahoga Falls and sells tower space to cell phone companies. If only the buffet portion is affected, WBNX would be safe, for now. They do have an inordinate number of subchannels they could continue on with if they are forced out of the building and have to set up shop at their transmitter in Parma. And the telecasts could all either move to the cathedral itself as well as any operations of WBNX....(IIRC the 90 and 9 Club is in the studio building while all of the services are at the Cathedral next door) But it would be great if Tegna or Scripps steps up and acquires channel 55. Since WKYC has some Indians telecasts, it would almost be like a re-incarnation of the good old WUAB we all grew up with.... There’s some joke in there about one of the seven deadly sins - gluttony and a buffet owned by a church. Also this line is interesting: Quote WBNX was a local television station operated by WBN. While that sounds fine and dandy and oozes of warm, fuzzy nostalgia, don't count on it. The rights fees for MLB telecasts nowadays are way too rich for any local broadcaster. That's not even going into how viewing habits have/are changing. Heck, a few years ago WKYC surrendered Browns pre-season rights to WEWS. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/16141-winston-broadcasting-network-clevelandakron/page/2/#findComment-225407 Share on other sites

Not sure where the Winston came from....was it Ernest's favorite brand of cigarettes before he found salvation? Also, the buffet (and the entire complex including the unfinished concrete tower) goes back to the Rex Humbard ministry. Weeters 1915
If they own the whole building, the whole building is up for sale. My guess would be the new owners would be responsible for either giving WBNX a lease to stay or starting the process of evicting them once the sale is finalized.
