Recovering Producer 221 Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 The NY Times has a very brutal and honest article on the contracts/noncompetes many anchors, reporters, and producers must sign with many station groups - and how TV stations are convinced they're still an in-demand employer like it is still 1985. Broadcast News Is at Center of Fight Over Noncompete Clauses

tyrannical bastard 4018 Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 This should probably go in the Sinclair thread, but it's pretty significant to mention here. This is the last day of WPMI's morning show, noon newscast and Gulf Coast Today lifestyle program. This Facebook post even hints at more "sharing" with cross-market WEAR in Pensacola. All the more reason Sinclair should have NEVER been able to run 4 stations in 1 market. 1

DENDude 221 Posted April 18, 2023 Posted April 18, 2023 KUSA & KTVD are now on the hunt for a new news director. Megan Jurgemeyer has abruptly left the Denver duopoly after 3 years & her bio was scrubbed from the station's website this morning. I have more on my blog about it, and there is info here as well: https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2023/4/15/gone-just-like-that [ Oh and Denver duopoly KMGH, KCDO/KSBS-CD has been with out a news director since April 4, 2023. ]

Brian comes from Fox 13 in Seattle and will be anchoring the morning show with Michelle Griego starting tomorrow. 1
T.L. Hughes 900 Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 (edited) Both of Griffin Media’s news helicopters sustained damage from a severe weather outbreak that affected Central Oklahoma on Wednesday. One is repairable, the other likely needs replacement. KWTV’s helicopter, SkyNews 9, lost its windshield after accidentally getting hit by large hail by a supercell that produced a tornado near Cole (which was preliminarily rated an EF3). Pilot Jim Gardner was not pleased, and was forced to make an emergency landing: KOTV’s helicopter, Osage SkyNews 6, OTOH, was destroyed for the second time in about 15 years. It was brought over by the station to help with KWTV’s coverage of the storm aftermath, but had the misfortune of parking for the night in a hangar at Shawnee Regional Airport, which was struck by another tornado (from the same supercell that spawned the Cole tornado) that struck the western part of the city just over two hours later (estimated to be at least an EF2): KOTV lost its previous helicopter in June 2007, after it crashed in Sand Springs after clipping the satellite dish of an ENG truck while filming a promo. mre29 1552 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Hmm....If the helicopter is supposed to get maintenance and an inspection every 100 flight hours, that inspection would have to be more frequent than once a year. Otherwise, it would only be in the air for an average of 16.4 minutes per day.
Roadrunner 217 Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 KXAS (NBC 5)'s political reporter Julie Fine is heading to Bloomberg News to become the new chief of their Dallas-based Texas bureau. She begins on June 5. Fine has been with the station for 10 years and hosts the station's weekly Sunday morning program, Lone Star Politics.

I just used the word annually it always goes in every 100 hours especially as much as 6 and 9’s helicopters are used in Oklahoma between both stations and the three pilots (yes KWTV technically has two pilots).
lugnuts6 91 Posted April 27, 2023 Posted April 27, 2023 (edited) Well, they were cursed with being WAY late to the newscast party as WTOL and WTVG,then known as WSPD news departments got well established, and even with Sinclair's moving news operations to WSBT South Bend Indiana didn't help give a rise to their anemic ratings, The Toledo Blade is reporting that Sinclair Broadcasting's WNWO NBC 24 Toledo will be airing its last newscast on May 12, a victim of Sinclair's Diamond Sports Group's chapter 11 bankruptcy , what's left of NBC24s News Department will be mothballed.. Just an update for you on SkyNews 9 it’s been back up in the air for the past week has the new windshield. They used it for the grow house fire in Logan County as well as the OKC bombing memorial run to remember yesterday.
