Update: fired.

I'm split on this because as an objective journalist you can't rant personal political opinions on social media. This would be less consequential if it were an MSNBC or Fox commentator.

That being said, it's tough not to rant. Trump is unique in that we've never seen a president and his administration blatantly lie, bully journalists, threaten democracy and form a cult of perosnality to this degree. How can journalists tow the line of calling this out while staying objective in reporting and minimizing personal biases? It's hard!

Doing what Moran did however serves no one. Losing your job to rant against Trump, Miller, or anyone else in the administration on social media isn't worth it when there are thousands of opinion commentators who can do that for you. I think this warranted a conversation and a social media break not a firing however.

It's a shame because Moran was very good. His political analysis always did tow the line of commentary however, so it's not surprising to see him take it a step further on social media.

The end of an era at WAGA FOX5 Atlanta. The I-Team is no more after 48 years. Dana Fowle and Johnny Edwards have been let go. [story is paywalled at the AJC, but you can read the first couple of sentences for free]

Sucks!!

At the very least some positive news coming out of "waga" as Courtney Bryant called it. Russ Spencer is celebrating 30 years at the station.

KGTV San Diego just moved World News Tonight on weeknights to 5:30 p.m., ending a 22-year run (starting in 2003) of carrying WNT in the 6:30 timeslot. The 6:00 pm news is now an hour and thus gives KGTV two 90-minute local news blocks in the early evening. The first from 4:00-5:30 and another from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

It also ends an era in San Diego as, at one point, all three network newscasts aired in different timeslots with KNSD's at 5:30, KFMB's at 6:00, and KGTV's at 6:30. That changed when KFMB moved theirs a few years back to 5:30 (more likely did so after TEGNA started owning them), and now KGTV just did the same for theirs.

Longtime WDIV reporter Hank Winchester had his home searched on June 13th and he has been placed on administrative leave. Apparently he was studying massage therapy and made unwanted sexual advances towards a man during a massage. He’s been at the station since 2001.

WJBK is blasting this as the lead story on its website. Classy.

Two things to cover...

That's it for Bob Brackeen. After a 35+-year career in TV, with a good chunk at KTEN, he is retiring and today is his last day.

After 11 years at WINK, and 8 on the morning show, Lindsey Sablan will be leaving the station tomorrow with Taylor Petras taking her place.

I just heard through the grapevine that Stephanie Hockridge said her goodbyes at KNXV this evening.

I hate to bring up a 2018 post but since then, she started a company with her husband.

But now, instead of saying goodbye to a TV news career and a hello to a new business, she'll possibly instead say hello to a prison cell.

Found guilty on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud but found not guilty on four counts of wire fraud.

In Arizona, that one count could mean 20 years in federal prison for Hockridge and three years of supervised release. She finds out at sentencing on October 10th.

Her fiancé will stand trial in August for the same charges.

Aside from the Astros, Houston is not a market that Fox has a vested interest in sports-wise.  The Texans are an AFC team that's had some better years but that's CBS's problem in their eyes.

Wonder if the same will happen in Orlando?  Austin seems to hold on despite it not having any teams of their own, but feeds on the surrounding markets like DFW, Houston and San Antonio.

While that’s still true in theory, the NFL has loosened its scheduling in recent years and now,

it’s not uncommon to see an NFC vs NFC matchup on CBS or an AFC divisional battle on Fox.

This is a reminder that the newest Independent television station (the first of three, coming within a two-month span) begins next Tuesday.

Yes, WFTS' chief now has his own program, moving from streaming to weeknights at 7:30 p.m. Other weekday highlights in this TL;DR version include (according to TampaBay66.com; forgive me for this list, but its to drive a point to showcase a little mixture of everything for WXPX starting next week)...

  • A live simulcast of WFTS' 4:30-6:00am, 7:00-8:00am (already done by streaming), 9:00-10:00am, hour-long noon, and half-hour 7:00pm newscasts.
  • A delayed rebroadcast of WFTS' half-hour weeknight 6:00 and 11:00pm newscasts by 30 minutes (6:30 and 11:30pm, respectively).
  • Some Scripps News programs, mainly in the morning (The National Report at 6:00am and the Morning Rush at 8:00 and 10:00am) but also in the afternoon (Scripps News On The Scene at 4:00 and Happening NOW in America at 5:00pm).
  • Tampa Bay's Morning Blend gets a double dose of airing, just like WFTS (11:00am and 12 Midnight on WXPX as opposed to 10:00am and 1:07am on WFTS).
  • The Jason Show from KMSP-TV Minneapolis will make its Tampa Bay debut at 1:00pm.
  • The only syndicated programs that I see, outside of primetime, are Inside Edition (6:00pm), ES.TV (11:00pm), and Sports Wrap with Jason Page (1:00am).

Oh, and don't forget, Tampa Bay Lightning games in the fall, too. That's why WXPX will become what it is: The Spot - Tampa Bay 66.

Jeff Hogan is leaving WRAL-TV to head back home to WBNS 10TV Columbus.

At the same time, Chris Lovingood will now do mornings with Renee Chou from 5-8 a.m.

Jeff Hogan teaming up with Yolanda Harris makes good business sense, because Jeff had been on 10TV since the late 90s.  Good move to 10TV.
