I thought something was different; I noticed the change earlier during coverage of a standoff that resulted in an officer getting shot and hospitalized. That the set is being updated/replaced only two years after the station moved to its downtown studio is odd, especially considering KWTV’s last three sets at their old Kelley Ave. building were used for progressively long stretches. Their final set at the Kelley building was built in 2004 (lasting for 18 years), the set before that (inspired by the WCCO set introduced not too much earlier) was built in 1993-94 (lasting for ~10 years), and the set before that was built in 1985-86 (lasting ~8 years). Yep and yet sister station KOTV has a some what similar set to the old set from 2004-2022 from when they moved into their building in 2013. They are more desperate for a new set then KWTV but hopefully they will soon. 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/19079-kwtv-new-home-and-set/page/2/#findComment-298427 Share on other sites

JosiahCubed 280
That is a pretty nice new set. Even though it’s new, it builds upon the style and structure of the previous set. MidwestTV 1232
That's pretty solid. I dig it. Nice use of textures, monitors don't feel over the top, and it has some warmth too it. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/19079-kwtv-new-home-and-set/page/2/#findComment-300307 Share on other sites

mouseboy33 93
Well one BIG HUGE DOWNGRADE is the size and look of the weather center. WHOA thats what jumped out at me immediately. ITS TINY. Oklahoma CIty is is Tornado Coverage. That typically means that the Weather Center is usually just as big or bigger than the news desk. The previousl Bob Mills Weather Center has behind the scenes area. Particuarly when there is a massive tornado outbreak there could be tons of people behind the weather desk. It looks fantastic and typcially during tornado coverage there are multiple people behind the weather desk USUALLY ive seen 4 people. THere are gonna be tight behind there. And it seems This is a downgrade. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/19079-kwtv-new-home-and-set/page/2/#findComment-300319 Share on other sites

You're not wrong, considering Devlin's past work. Speaking of which, they're the one's who designed KWTV's new studio (with Vivid Zero providing new graphics): https://www.griffin.news/story/66e67eb88de4fa23ffadc7b9/news-9-new-studio There's also a hype package for this new look: https://www.facebook.com/GriffinOklahoma/videos/842137537681594/ Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/19079-kwtv-new-home-and-set/page/2/#findComment-300330 Share on other sites

Skyline photos taken after the Devon’s completion usually incorporate it in the frame. (For additional reference, the BOK Park Plaza, built five years after the Devon’s completion, is also absent in that photo.) Edited September 16, 2024 by T.L.
