Jman7885 64 Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Is studio 1A getting a refresh during the Olympics? I have not been able to watch and see if Sheinelle, Dylan, Carson and Jenna have appeared from 1A in NYC while the rest of the gang is in Paris. 1

Personally, I doubt it but let's see where this goes. 1 1

With the election coming I would be surprised if they didn’t do something. Even if it’s re-engineering the space where the Orange Room used to be… I think it was 2020 or 2022 where they added the additional large LED wall in front of that space… I can seem them make some subtle changes like that as well as removing the sunrise ‘sculpture’ in favor of something more generic NBC as the set is used for Nightly as well so the sunrise logo doesn’t really fit

Usually, the 7-9 portion is completely remote from site, in this case Paris, with the third and fourth hours on hiatus. There's a backup anchor at 30 Rock in case something catastrophic happens with the feed but they are usually in a news nook with a still of the Today studio in the monitor behind them. In the past, NBC has utilized these Olympics breaks to work on 1A, from interior updates to exterior videoboard upgrades. So it isn't out of the realm of possibility but I haven't heard anything one way or the other.
MediaZone4K 2233 Posted August 1, 2024 Posted August 1, 2024 1A needs furniture. The current set is barren floor of cheap looking video walls. The only update since 2014 that looks good is the anchor desk facing the window in the world. Permanent set pieces coupled with a flexible video wall is a good medium.
MD TV 277 Posted August 7, 2024 Posted August 7, 2024 Savannah, Hoda and Al are back in 1A this morning. I don't see anything different. 1

I feel like NBC (especially Today) has been less invested in the Olympics the past few go-arounds. This year, Savannah was there a couple days early, Hoda joined for the Opening Ceremony, Al and Craig joined later; and now they're already back in 1A. Didn't it seem that they used to be there start to finish? Or was that likely more so they didn't have a 1A to go back to until the construction was done? Or that the Today team had more duties with opening/closing ceremony broadcasts in the past? 1
nathannah 2493 Posted August 9, 2024 Posted August 9, 2024 Going by their Eiffel Tower and IBC studio spaces it just might be smaller and have to be used for more things rather than when they shipped out the portable Today set-in-a-box, which really isn't practical for this Paris go-around. I suspect they'll have a lot more room in 2028 when they can do something like use the IBC (based at Universal Studios), use their studio 1 for a large set since Kelly is now New York-based, or even sub-lease space from the NFL in Inglewood. 1

In regards to Savannah & Hoda, it actually was the reverse as I noticed the day before the Opening Ceremony, Savannah was still in NYC & they did do a report from the U.S. Olympic House in Paris & Hoda was there. 1

I knew that, but didn't have enough coffee this morning. Thank you for the clarfication!

Even their incorperation of the plaza which initially set them apart from other morning broadcasts feels very underutilized now.
