PelicanGuy 117 Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Now why hasn't this list been updated?
tyrannical bastard 4019 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 What I would love to know is who is STILL in 4x3 SD! I think these days, the HD launches of the past would be a major embarrassment if done today, unless it's some itty bitty market like Glendive where transitioning to digital was a herculean task in itself....
scrabbleship 429 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 What I would love to know is who is STILL in 4x3 SD! To start: WIVT, WWNY, WAGM, KHQA, KTVO, KIEM, KMTR.
TheRolyPoly 2559 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Sorry to bump this thread that is months OLD! But, WSTM Channel 3 and WSTQ Channel 14/Cable 6 are FINALLY going to be in HD after broadcasting in 16:9 widescreen SD for nearly 6 years! As you can see on this link, a new set will be constructed as well. Plus... get ready for the Sinclair-ization graphics. http://cnycentral.com/news/local/watch-high-def-facelift-for-nbc3-cw6-news-studio-begins

Viper550 292 Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 CKCO has apparently gone partially to HD. Studio shots are widescreen SD but some remotes and the graphics are in HD. Better than nothing...
Conrad 113 Posted June 8, 2017 Posted June 8, 2017 Bumping a thread that hasn't been updated in nearly 5 months, but has WIVT gone HD or widescreen SD (considering they introduced new graphics lately)? Another thing is that with the new ATSC 3.0 standard, there might be stations broadcasting local news in 4K in the next decade or two.

Conrad 113 Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 Wait... WIVT got new graphics? When??? HOW??? In March 2017. And yes, they went HD at that time.
Rusty Muck 4390 Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 In March 2017. And yes, they went HD at that time. Well, I'll be damned.
Conrad 113 Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Bumping this thread to say that KETV went HD in October 2015, when they moved into their new studios. That should have been posted earlier, but was missed.
Conrad 113 Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 Sorry to bump a thread that is close to 2 years old. But it is expected that in July of this year, WPTZ will move into their new studios. When they move, they will start broadcasting in HD.
Weeters 1969 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Can't confirm this directly, but according to this post from a retired engineer, as of September 5th, Two Thousand and Twenty, almost 14 years since this thread was created... WDSU-TV New Orleans is finally HD, debuting a new fully-HD control room. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1425282661005351/permalink/1548173738716242/

Although through online viewing, (and watching prior to today for the past several months) it's harder to tell if the online compression is making it look below HD, or if it's really high quality standard definition. So this means that WGNO should be fully HD by the year 2029? Maybe WVUE goes 4k in 2027.

And if that is true, then they're most likely talking about the resolution the station as a whole is broadcasting at. Newscasts may not be in HD, but most other programming is.

I should've been more clear in my original post as I wondered whether Hearst converted WMTW's news to HD when they moved to Westbrook. ME.
