Sam Horn 78
OK. Everything on air. Some of the stuff, including the sign on the desk will change soon. These things take time. According to station sources, it also has nothing to do with Vickie Burns arrival. It's understood that these things take time; the question is why rush this to air before they were 100% ready to rebrand? It's not like CBS2 was going to beat them to using the News 4 New York branding. The Observer 0
I have it on good authority that they were thinking about maybe doing this since last year when they rolled out the updated We're 4 New York campaign. Although that may be a bit of retconning. Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3418-wnbc-drops-newschannel-4/page/2/#findComment-30860 Share on other sites
DMA 135
They removed the HD bit of the L3 over on the left thankfully. It does make the graphics look blander however. I hope more stuff changes. I welcome the change, but everything should have been done when everything was ready. Amra 171
NBC should've given Bob Long the ND gig and rebranding the news as The Channel 4 News Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3418-wnbc-drops-newschannel-4/page/2/#findComment-30876 Share on other sites

Amra 171
Comprehensive Changes ahead, and even now that Vicky Burns is taking as ND of WNBC. Oh for hell... If Chuck and Sue are removed from the 11pm show, they will tumble. mbhcity 3
Bob Long should stay at KNBC for as long as possible, but lets face it, budget cuts will eventually kick in and he and Paul will probably have to go sometme soon, just like at CBS. wabceyewitness 818
Here's an interesting interview with WNBC's VP of Programming and Creative Services, from the blog Gothamist. http://gothamist.com/2008/04/01/wnbc_does_the_t.php Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3418-wnbc-drops-newschannel-4/page/2/#findComment-30988 Share on other sites
IceManNYR 240
They has also added traffic and weather every 4min to the AM show. I don't think it's needed and it just looks goofy on the HD feed: Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3418-wnbc-drops-newschannel-4/page/2/#findComment-31351 Share on other sites
who?cares 254
every 4 minutes, that's quite excessive, the might as well call it "The Traffic Show" Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3418-wnbc-drops-newschannel-4/page/2/#findComment-31352 Share on other sites
civic110 18
I think it's also very poor identity. While channel 4 serves NYC, they also have to remember they have a LARGE New Jersey viewership as well as Connecticut. Being "4 new york" implies just that...new york only. DMA 135
New York is more of the name of the region, rather than New York proper. More often than not, the top story is somewhere in North Jersey, and I think News 4 New York reflects the region, rather than the State/City. IceManNYR 240
The Special Report that ran just now used the NewsChannel4HD logo animation and the "This is a special report from NewsChannel4HD." voice over. RGSJenkins 435
Even the radio ads still have the "NBC 4 HD" tag. Why do news directors try to change everything right when they come in? (for example KOIN, although the old ND trademarked "Bringing News Home") Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/3418-wnbc-drops-newschannel-4/page/2/#findComment-31633 Share on other sites
Vlad 325
I'm sure that by the May Sweeps, they'll have everything changed. They did say that it would be a slow process. I do agree in a way with the 4 New York branding and being kinda selfish to the remaining viewers in New Jersey and Connecticut (4 New York Only), sorta, but again New York is pretty much what is defined as the Tri-State Area. Jess 1115
Yes, the name seems like it's too much NYC-centric... at first glance. If you've seen a 1980s-era broadcast, though, it's obvious that one of the main thrusts behind the branding was to promote the entire metro area. Hence the "wall" of all the counties and boroughs. Furthermore, each reporter package would tweak the name to incorporate where in the metro area the story was set - "News 4 Manhattan", "News 4 Bayonne", etc. Not that they'll bring that back, but it's one of the more unique points of that campaign that was lost over time.
