newsteam13 394
The whole entire KTUL News 8 1985 theme!!!! You won't hear bits of it, like you do on SouthernMedia NMSA Cue to the 4:02 mark to hear the FULL-LENGTH version. THE WHOLE ENCHILADA! 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-240918 Share on other sites

newsteam13 394
Here's something interesting and fun to watch. The full-length episode of CBS News Up to the Minute. No, not the overnight newscast that came (a) after CBS News Nightwatch and (b) before CBS Overnight News. Not the Up to the Minute you're thinking of. This was the 1981 SHOW, Monday thru Friday afternoons, where it was hosted by the same men who brought us 60 Minutes (Mike Wallace, Ed Bradley, Morley Safer and Harry Reasoner). It was a weekday afternoon news program - an early fringe deal - that came on after the CBS soaps and before the early news at like 5:00pm. PLUS, there's theme music to the show. Seeing that Up to the Minute was hosted by the 60 Minutes anchormen, the music was MUCH different from the stopwatch sound effect we're used to hearing on 60 Minutes every Sunday. 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-240958 Share on other sites

This is fascinating to watch. The show only lasted two months and there's barely any information on the program anywhere. Captain Kangaroo delivering hard news commentary is wild. 5 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-240960 Share on other sites
KnoxvilleTVFan 286
BTM0815MA has been on a tear when it comes to rare news uploads. This leads me to most of a **RARE** WITN newscast from December 31st, 1980. And if you are a Weather Channel viewer, you may recognize this former OCM (on-camera meteorologist). 7 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-240966 Share on other sites

This was replaced by a reboot of Tattletales with Bert Convy in January 1982. 4pm became an infamous daytime death slot for CBS. Most CBS affiliates and even their O&Os programmed syndicated shows at 4pm and shifted the 4pm scheduled show to 9:30am or Noon, or never showed it. CBS tried to put a game show in this slot for 4.5 years. All great game shows in Tattletales 2.0, Body Language, and Press Your Luck but nothing stuck. CBS moved Press Your Luck in January 1986 to make room for Card Sharks, CBS figured more affiliates would change their schedules to keep PYL and it never happened and the most iconic game show of the 80’s was gone by September as CBS gave 4pm back to the affiliates. hmaxhanson 650
WJRT from 1987 and a theme that sounds a lot like Newschannel: WRGB introduces closed captioned news: KCAL looks back on its first year of Prime 9 News: KEZI from 1977! 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-241026 Share on other sites
Info Junkie 1286
From that WRGB channel, not news-related, but posting because it was a huge staple of my childhood: Also notable: This was when John Gray filled in for the late Ed Dague after he retired. THIS was the WNYT I remember. Samantha 2895
There's a lot to take in in 90 seconds: a totally new KGMB open and theme from a newscast when KGMB made the news for a 22-minute power failure...during the Super Bowl! This can't have lasted long. In 1986, KGMB rebranded its news as KGMB 9 News after the retirement of longtime anchor Bob Sevey—the "Walter Cronkite of Hawai'i"—but by late 1987, they had changed their logo to the sailboat 9. Oh, and before Joe Shortsleeve was in Boston...he was anchoring eyeWITNess News, as this rare WITN newscast from December 1980 shows! 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-241052 Share on other sites
NewsStar2 90
A couple of clips from KHOU in February 1986... The first is just a few minutes of a 10 PM newscast, focusing on memorials for the Challenger astronauts and the recovery and investigation into the disaster. The second is a newsbreak with Felicia Jeter and Craig Weber (in stereo!) during the Grammy awards. I have most of the newscast (minus the last minute or so) and will eventually upload it. bmasters1 403
From btm0815ma: an edition of the CBS News Morning show from 1979, not long after the flagship Sunday Morning debuted (this edition was Tuesday Morning, and was from Tuesday, April 17, 1979 [back in 1979, there wasn't just Sunday Morning w/Charles Kuralt, but also Monday Morning, Tuesday Morning, Wednesday Morning, et al. w/Bob Schieffer; all those were anchored far differently to the Kuralt Sunday show, in that they were more about the news of the day, and less features]). Also attached are some title shots from that broadcast, from different shots of the set. 3 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-241143 Share on other sites
WWUpdate 1292
WBBM, Chicago; 10 p.m., 1995 -- shortly after the station ditched the last vestiges of its black-red-and-white tabloid-era look and brought back its classic "This is My City, Chicago's My Town" signature in the form of Gari's Enforcer. The overall style still retained a somewhat tabloid flavor: Edited February 26, 2020 by WWUpdate 1 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-241144 Share on other sites

The announcer who did the CBS Evening News open was none other than Dave Campbell who also did work for WCBS-FM as a news anchor. Before Dave Campbell became the announcer, Harry Kramer and Bob Hite were the announcers for the CBS Evening News. 2 Link to comment https://localnewstalk.net/topic/869-classic-video-thread-pre-2008/page/340/#findComment-241159 Share on other sites
