Was always curious how WSVN’s flashy format would have handled something as cataclysmic as 9/11. It’s also interesting to see the WB Miami station using New York’s WB affiliate coverage, since the network had no national news service. Apologies for taking the thread back to that dark day but this video has a compilation of how several cable channels broadcast 9/11. Apparently Viacom networks (VH 1, CMT, and MTV) showed CBS News coverage, TLC carried BBC World News and even HSN carried some international news service. Facinating. I cannot think of another event in which entertainment cable channels suspended programming to carry a national news event other than BET carrying CBSN coverage of the Derek Chauvin verdict in 2021. Justin Hill 38
WGBA-TV NBC 26's first newscast, July 19, 1996. Newstheme: WDJT 1995 Newstheme + NBC Jingle After losing their Fox affiliation to WLUK-TV 11 in 1995, WGBA-TV 26, a station who had no newscast prior to their NBC affiliation, had to expand their studio on North Road in Green Bay, Wisconsin to add a newsroom, anchor desk and other types of news-gathering equipment. The project was finished just in time for the 1996 Olympic Games. Ashley Webster (now at Fox Business) was one of the original anchormen and women at NBC 26 during the station's early waning days. It took years for WGBA-TV 26 (a station on a UHF frequency), now "Proud as a Peacock" to be Green Bay's newest NBC affiliate to find "Must See TV." NBC 26 had to find its identity in Packerland while competing with Green Bay, Wisconsin's "big three" stations, all found on VHF frequencies, which had loyal viewers since the 1950s: WBAY-TV 2 (ABC), WFRV-TV 5 (CBS) and WLUK-TV 11 (Fox). Just saw them in the network piece and the health report (syndicated?). Did Stan last at WTCN until Magers came on the scene? VHSgoodiesWA 303
KIMA News at 6, 2/19/2003 (Craig Galbraith, Roxeanne Vainuku, Stu Seibel, Alan Sillence) At the end of this compilation of commercials from 2005 is another KIMA News open, when they adopted the 'NewsWatch' branding for a couple of years before switching to Action News. Most of the Fisher-type graphics stayed around, but the announcer changed. Long time KIMA announcer Joseph Litzinger (deceased in 2014) was on the first video and had done IDs and advertisements for KIMA Radio and TV since the 1960s. MediaZone4K 2165
'Today' (1982). Loving how sped up the format is at this point compared to the Brokaw & Walters years. Not too slow and not the ADHD level pacing of today. It also seems that they were frequently experimenting with sets. I've seen the blue version of this current set before but wasn't aware there was a brown variation as well. The sets from the late 70s up until the O.G. studio 1a (which was awesome) were all very well done.
