WLIG (now WLNY) News 55 Open from 1986:

And here's a WLIG news promo from 1985, the first year of the station's existence:

Internet Archive finds...

Richmond news opens from 1991: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_rep23e00

At the 1:07:05 mark, WFMY (says 1992 but I think this date might be wrong) with the Working For You open: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_aey99d00

WHP noon open from 1989, with a theme I can't identify. It's not Real News. Sounds like a production track from Network Music: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_iar91f00

Nice to see a longer sample of the Discover the Difference open. I had a feeling there was more to it...

Also, I think I remember posting that WHP video earlier. Great finds are posted alike, I guess. :p

Oops. Wasn't sure if it was posted already because it's not on the NMSA. Then again, the fact there there's a lot of missing info on the NMSA has been a hot topic lately! Can't complain because I know the webmaster's busy.

It doesn't help that the Internet Archive uploaded 1,200 videos (they're about 75% through their tapes) or that he is seriously backlogged on unknown themes. I've been rolling in finds this month, with some showing up in the NMSA and some not.

This KPNX clip may have been posted before, but it doesn't come up when I search this thread, so here goes:

KPNX, Phoenix; early '90s, 6 a.m.: https://archive.org/details/tobacco_rwx27a00

The theme is Gari's "News Station," KPNX's response to KTVK's

.

It's in the Ntropolis-produced montages from before the most recent wave of videos.

When I went through the Phoenix research for the affiliation switch, I also read the articles about KNXV's first newscast, which had a cold open: "no pretty pictures of Arizona", no shots of news personalities with their kids, etc. (that's how they described it)

There goes my theory that KLBK 1996 was a CBS affiliate package...

That said KNAZ's history is one of the most well-discovered for a small- or no-market station.

From user HummingbirdNash, notable local promos alongside other vintage commercials, it's a good look.

Wasn't there a music bed for the short era's news open 'cause i saw it on tvnewsthemes years ago. The promo music was based on it.

re: Pittsburgh TV stations

Posted this in recent 'cbs graphics' topic but thought would post here as well.

Could anyone post any KDKA, WIIC turned into WPXI, WTAE, WPGH news opens/closes from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s?

Interested in Erie, PA and Youngstown, OH as well for the same time frame.

These are hard to find, rare, and would love to see them again since born and raised in western PA.

HummingbirdNash is referring to Hummingbird Productions. I think we have another theme find (or at least something that may lead to it).

WISH 11pm from 1993. The one cut of Newsleader we HAVEN'T heard from WISH yet:

KYW promo for The News Tonight, February 6, 1992:

On previous channels, I've uploaded a Maria Shriver interview of then-future President George W. Bush from NBC's August 20, 1992 coverage of the Republican National Convention.

Here, I've uploaded all the footage I have of NBC's RNC coverage (picks up when Tom Brokaw and John Chancellor had just finished commenting on Vice President Dan Quayle's speech and ends when Tom throws a last-minute question to Andrea Mitchell {interviewing Michigan Gov. John Engler} about the proposed NAFTA treaty)

Whoops! Fixed it.

Speaking of news channel launches, this is how CBC Newsworld in Canada signed on for the first time in 1989:

And also from 1989, here are the first 22 minutes of Britain's Sky News, Europe's first news channel (the theme is Gari's "Great News"):

615's On Your Side? Now that's a surprise!

IIRC, that theme was also used as production music. We'd have to see an open to know.
